  • I prefer the built in desktop shortcut option in Google Chrome.

  • can it run on android?

  • The point is that it allows you to manage your apps in your taskbar or dock, separate from your browsing in your browser tabs. "Your web browser is for BROWSING"

    PLEASE BRING PRISM BACK!!!

  • I don't get the picture. How about just creating a shortcut on your desktop to the webpage? This is totally useless. BTW: What an annoying moron you are Chris Pirillo.

  • thanks for sharing this info!

  • que tipo imbecil

  • MOZILLA SCREWED UP THUNDERBIRD. I NOW BOYCOTT MOZILLA AND RECOMEND MY FRIENDS TO NOT GET NEAR IT. I HAVE GONE OVER TO

YAHOO AND AM NOT LOOKING BACK. THE IMPRSEEION IS OF A BUNCH OF USLESS NERDS .

  • It doesn't work. -_-

    Update this video!

  • What is the point? Useless.

  • @MillBelater beyond useless

  • @MillBelater Not so. Prism is brilliant for certain kinds of websites that are, essentially, just cloud applications, Sumopaint for example. Prism is especially brilliant if you're running a dock program, like Object Dock Plus. I have a tabbed drop-down dock across the top of one of my monitors, with 25 or so Prism apps on it. It saves time and it's clean and to the point. Now, when wrapped into a netbook OS, like Jolicloud, then Prism is beyond brilliant.

  • Pause at 4:58 and have a look at Chris's face

    :)

BTW: I use prism all the time now thanks Chris :)

  • Chris you are genius

  • I still don't get the point of it. They are still web pages just in a separate browser window that have running all the time. hmm

  • I think operating systems shouldn't make a difference between online and offline anymore. Its important what you are doing on pc, not how you are doing it.

E.g. i think in Windows7 you can select browsertabs directly from that new taskbar.

  • @wqtpuu: That only works with IE and Firefox.

  • Which version do you have that does that. Mine doesn't do that. For me I have only seen Safari and IE do that

  • Comment removed

  • @russjr08: Sometimes it doesn't work for some reason.

  • if i remember properly, even chrome allows creating web applications....

  • I use mozilla prism . My apps are facebook , gmall , plurk and even youtube too ,but for youtube I profer my browser!

  • epson is garbage

  • Windows: Camtasia Studio 6

    Mac: Screen flow

    Linux: Record my desktop

  • Sooner or later Youtube is going to be creating a web browser

  • Google is the owner of Youtube, so Google Chrome is the web browser for Youtube

  • @Sett1ng too bad it not the best for youtube :/

  • sooner or later you'll find out that youtube was bought by Google almost 3 years ago..

and they have a browser called chrome ^_^

  • Youtube is owned by Google, so Chrome would be the browser.

  • bit of a neek, but gd vid

  • when are you online i always go you site but i don't fond you online( live in belgium)

  • There's an app called Fluid that's been doing this for years.

  • I think Chrome has this too integrated in the browser.

  • It does, but for good reason.

  • Chrome had this feature from the first beta release...

  • Love how he rocks the Mac and OS X. Get the best, forget the rest (maybe).

  • he did this vid on my birthday!

  • hahahahahha

  • wateva syahrul

  • Try Youtube~~

  • Is this like the same thing as Adobe Air, in a way?

  • Couldnt you just make an internet shortcut?

  • That would defeat the purpose to not open the web browser. This is app is to stop opening web apps thru the web browser.

  • 2 words, google chrome!!

  • Not for Mac users like Chris. He relies on two different words: Cross platform.

  • they are making a mac version

  • They've been "making" one for a while. Until they finally "make" one, Mac users still need actual cross platform options.

  • of course I didn't say you were wrong I just wanted to clarify

  • Chrome? No. :P

  • Chrome? Yes

  • you can make these yourself easily without prism.

  • I like this not sure how much I will use it though, definitely worth a try if u havent yet checked it out.

  • Nice... im using this!... nice find

  • Chris Pirillo ROCKS!

    :)

Love your podcasts and live chat Chris!

  • I don't like firefox.

  • Who DOESN'T like firefox?

  • n00bs

  • Chrome already has this feature?

  • He's mainly a macuser, he doesn't know the divine goodness known as Chrome ^^

  • Actually he does both Windows, Mac OS X, & Linux.

  • Do note how I used "mainly" :p

I am aware that he uses other OS's too

  • really people.... this goof will try or say anything for you to listen.... sorry Chris not listening

  • thnx

  • What camera?

  • you can do that on chrome right out the box

  • that pritty nice

  • couldn't you just use a shortcut on your desktop...i mean really..can you say waste of memory space.

  • install kalyway on your PC *rolls eyes*

  • nice and i like your hat! o_0

  • or bookmark and drag to desktop but this way is kinda neat

  • NICE JOB.. THX FOR THE HEADS UP D ☺

  • all it does is link to the website.

you might aswell just add the bookmark shortcut to your desktop.

  • that's really neat

  • prism doesnt run on windos

  • this isn't correct, prism is windows capable - mozilla is making a revolution.

  • i have TONS of appplicaitons on my mac, like I spend 50% of day looking for aps

  • Why?

  • cause its fun, I like ot be able to do ANYTHING on my mac

  • you can do anything you can do on a mac in a pc

  • fluid for mac

  • Chrome does the same as well.

  • Are you sure?

  • yah, I was about to program an twitter application for windows...

  • "at least any supported platform"

I know what you meant, but that was kind of funny.

  • Did he say released today? I've had a GMail Prism running on my Jaunty desktop for a while now.

  • Fuck Mac. Vista all the way.

  • "Fuck Mac. Vista all the way."

OH? Nah! Leopard all the way. He did say the app for Leopard was better!

  • Surprised no one has done this up until now, someone who doesn't know how to program can do this with something called 'WebUIview'.

    Nice find Chris.

  • woop woop chris ur recent vids are much better more techy ;)

  • google chrome has something similar to that built in

  • i was thinking there would be something like this (just two days ago on the way home from school) and i meant to search for something that would allow me to do that.

    what a coincidence :D

  • awesom

  • lol that new style is awesome

  • ahaha "they are making fun of me" "now they are making me a liar" then down in the chat box "Dont crash your computer chris!"

  • It would be amazing if it could cache the latest version of that site so it could be used with no internet connection then update itself when it is connected. A little like Google Gears but implemented automatically.

  • will it work with facebook??

  • Thats cool!!!

  • Its just an iFrame, whats the big deal?

  • this is from Chorme

  • just use chrome..

  • isn't prism the same as google gears?

  • Thanks.

  • ie 8 ftw!

  • LOL... IE... not even going to comment on how bad it actually is....

  • Well, truth be told, I use Firefox hehehe. Funny how many people (at least 5) took it so seriously. Anyways, a browser is only as secure as the user that browses with it. Put me up with a fresh XP SP2 install with IE6 and I bet you I cannot get infected.

  • Dude; you really must be stoned out of your head for IE6 to be good.

IN ANY circumstances, IE6 is a pitiful attempt at a browser.

    Besides the fact it sucks...

    It's old.

If you're going to use IE; at least get a newer version. But I strongly advice switching to Firefox, or a webkit browser, like Chrome.

You will notice a world of differences.

  • no you won't. all you will see is a small bunch of text or menus in slightly different positions. their both web browsers they both view web pages it is as simple as that

  • For someone who has no use for a browser other than games and porn; perhaps not. From a web design perspective, and a general purpose view of experiencing different browsers; Firefox is faster than IE, and Chrome is faster than all of them. Safari is also good. Every browser does its own thing; and many better than the other. Of the 4 browsers I have installed; I find Chrome the best. It's also the lightest of them all.

At least try them for more than 30 seconds before you reject like that.

  • Opera is better than Chrome, because it's more secure! And it's fast like Chrome.

  • Not gonna disagree with you there; but I didn't like Opera the last time I used it; but Chrome still gets a fairly high security rating, which is good. But we can agree...

    Anything...

    Is better than IE..hehe

  • I agree IE sucks!!! Since like it was created :D

  • who cares about secure when u got a good anti-virus running?

chrome is lite and fast ..

but nothing is like IE :D

  • yeah cos its so shit

  • i'm gonna stick with fluid...

  • Wow so when i'm not connected to the internet i can still go on youtube!

  • No Retard its just a web browser basically without the navigation icons.

  • This is the kind of Video I always wanted from Chris..!! Letting people Know new things..! thanks Chris.

  • so i could have a youtube app on my dock??

  • pretty pointless.. There's no Tabs feature... and If I wanna shortcut to a site I can just make a .url put it on my desktop.. or make bookmark toolbar like I already do in Firefox...

  • i really dont see the point. is it good if your internet sux? were the programmers just board one day? anyone know?

  • Dude thanks to you man! OMG

  • i dont see what the point of using this is

  • cool! :)

  • 4:38

    "ohh not right click"

....isnt he using a Mac OS?

  • You can still "right-click" on Mac OS X

    watch?v=S9WHJT4WsbM

  • mac has a right click now, instead of doing control click. the mouse still is one button but it has two sensors inside.

  • google chrome sucks fire fox is where its at

  • i havent tried it, what did you find bad?

  • i just don't like youtube pushing it down my throat ever time i log in its like try google chrome!

  • Google Chrome can already do this... :D

  • useless

  • I love this!

  • Pretty pointless, your still just opening a browser. Just a very limited one. I'll just keep putting a shortcut on my desktop to web pages/apps I use.

  • Yea I know that what I was going to say. I mean whats the point of it. The only people that are going to be downloading this are probably people with little computer experiance.

  • i downloaded as an Add-on the firefox. Now how to i launch it?

  • Under tools in firefox it will say "convert website to application". Click on that.

  • eww a mac

  • @AnimepimpYT: failfailfailfailfailfailfailfailfailfailfailfailfailfail

  • failfailfailfailfailfailfailfail this isn't Twitter

  • maybe you haven't noticed but the youtube comment system often puts comments where they shouldn't be so no this is not twitter but the comment system does suck

  • dont see the point of this, i dont find it cool at all, but i'm just being me

  • Well, its nice to be able to use an email service without the browser window.

  • This sounds nice but I'm getting off of gmail, google, and youtube because they have become fascist censorists.

  • i agree.. freakin google i hate them now.

  • yeah, google and i...don't agree with each other...

  • Its mozilla so its going to be great.

    One word FIREFOX

  • active desktop with iframes ?

  • I wonder if prism supports silverlight so I can use it for Netflix. I'll check it out, thanks Chris.

  • Nope, Netflix doesn't like it for streaming video.

  • Netflix is now on Windows Media Center =]

  • Prism is an application that lets users split web applications out of their browser and run them directly on their desktop.

  • what may be the difference between double-clicking a prism made-app and a firefox shorcut (both on your desktop)?

  • how this guy zoom in and out??? I can't do this non sence!!

  • well if your running mac os x then just hold down control and use the mouse scroll button

  • It is a feature inside of Mac OS X

  • I'VE FOUND WALDO!

  • nice hat

  • Hmm. Interesting.

  • is this already inside of google chrome?

  • Many innecessary videos...Im Unsuscribing

  • well i wasn't to excited about this app, it is really not useful, because you can just make a link but it were ever you want and does the same thing, one problem is that in msn hotmail when i go to hit inbox it try's to open it in firefox

  • i did youtube and it is oh so nice

    thanks chris

  • It is pretty much a pointless app. All it does is take away the looks of Firefox, inside it is the same thing.

Plus it makes shitty quality icons so its a waste.

  • I'm SimonTheSnowman in the chat. :]

  • like theres a difference between clickin IE and clickin prism button...

    POINTLESS APP.

  • do a shortcut to an url on your desktop which opens a internet explorer window

    exactly same thing ? yes

    its bad...

  • thats a nice program and great concept

  • the guys in chat are so retarteded, they keep repeating the fucken url over and over

  • Chris... ¬¬ Google Chrome got this since before beta... LOL

  • oh, i forgot... Google Chrome not for MACS hahahahahahahahahaha LOL

  • its fine with me. ive ran it on my MAC before and i wasnt a fan. i use minefield which did the same benchmarks as chrome and safari also did the same benchmark. chrome isnt the next greatest thing just cause its google. google is actually owned by the us gov and is regulating things, so in my opinion, i am staying away from google things the best i can.

  • good point, but in my opinion google products aren't bad at all... I am just saying that: this is not "new" to the web-apps topic, and Google Chrome is a great alternative to do this as well. and Shake and bake guy is right, Chrome is not yet for Macs... but, will be soon, and still will be a great alternative

  • @ScorgeRudess

Not yet, my friend. Not yet...

Although I am running it on my MacBook. It's called CrossOver Chromium.

  • The applications run much slower than they do in Firefox. I really don't recommend this.

  • safari will have this built into version 4, and this has been available on mac for a while with the app fluid, and with fluid u can have menus for the app as well

  • I'm not doubting you, but how do we know this?

  • that is so coooool!!!!

  • sweet vid chris

  • Can you run Prism as an app?

  • as far as gmail goes

    i use thunderbird (mozilla's sister)
