@caribbeangamerboy You need to follow the instructions in this video to open your PS3 and remove the laser deck, then look on the laser and there's a sticker with the ID number for the laser part, note, it'll probably be something like KES400AAA or KES410AAA. Note you NEED to replace it with the exact same laser!
The laser mech is the bit that allows the laser to move up and down to read the disc, the laser is just the laser that reads the disc. Your better off buying a deck and laser eBay.
I have a 40GB PS3 and the games freeze after 20 mins of gaming, but i could play demoes alot longer. So the problem is the blue ray laser right? Do i hav eto replace the laser, laser mec or the whole drive and which laser do i have to buy my consoul is the CEHGO1
damn it. the repair looks so easy. but for some reason I cant get that thing at around 3:50 off. I unscrewed all the screws and pushed into that hole (which actually doesnt do anything). but on that corner it is loose. I wont get it off on the top left corner. I never thought that my repair attempt would fail at that step

i whent to a forum bc my game icon doesn't show up every time i start up the system sometimes it does and other times i have to turn it off and on until it does... and some1 said its bc the laser is broken ... an1else have this problem?
u idiot u show how 2 disassemble a wii great and on this u show how 2 replace a laser mech. and while u do that u basicly show how 2 disassemble so y dont u make a video on how to do this but with a wii because whats the point of disassembling it if u dont no how 2 fix the laser
hey everyone dont do this because if you take of that little sticker on the side where he pulled that little rubber black peice out sony wont be able to fix it if you break it by accident.!!!!!! you are supposed to leave the sticker on and once you take off it dont stick to anything anymore for some reason..!!!!!

man r u some 13 year old or a women? or sum1 below-knowledge-people? i know some people with lots of money and listen to salesman easily by paying 200 fucking dollar jus for warrenty on electronics and computers.200 fucking dollars! cuz they dont know how to do shit when damage! even when when they install high end video card and their 300wat burnt.... they dont know whats wrong and call for help. simple shit. change psu! if no how to change... let someone! no need to pay fucking 200 on warrenty

Hello, I ended up just doing this and my ps3 seems to work now. The motor though seems to go on and off while I play a game. Also, sometimes I really have to push in to get the ps3 to take a disc in. Would you have any idea on what's up?
Will changing the laser delete my data on the system?
