  • ataris? ha ha ha

  • likey

  • who the fuck is frank?

  • Brings me all the memories :D

  • Molly's Lips by Nirvana was indeed a cover. But if you listen to the original song, you'll hear that the guitar riffs on Nirvana's version and the original sound nothing alike. Really, nothing alike at all.

Just thought I'd point that out...

    Not a bad thing, just

  • Frank has a good taste ^^

  • This band is one of the best.

  • Ha ha, I'm not the only killjoy here. That's so weird and cool. But also, I'd like to say that this song pretty much reminds me of She's A Rebel by Green Day

  • @Grita1997 She's a Rebel reminds you of this ;) 10 years difference haha

  • Her hair was blue, now it's green.

    I like her mind.

    She hates the scene.

    HEY that's me xD

  • Frank sent me here! Frank always sends me to the great music :) lol

  • That awkward moment when Frank Iero sent you here and now you love this band <3_____<3 Me gusta

  • Frank Iero sent me here. He's the reason i listen to most of the music i listen too. Thanks Frankie!<3

  • :O!! Recomendaciones de Frank iero..siempre son geniales!!

  • yOyOyOoyO KILLJOYS!

  • @SpoilSport0

haha hell yeah listening to Frankie's favorite music

  • @SpoilSport0 Yeah I'm a killljoy! But why are there other members of the MCRmy here? I'm here because I like this song, and I'm glad the other Killjoys do too, but... Why? What does this have to do with MCR?

  • @OriginofLunacy Frank Iero tweeted about liking this song so now jawbreaker got a load more fans.

  • i like her mind, she hates the scene.

    brilliant.

  • this should be on every mixtape that you ever make

  • ONE TWO THREE FOUR WHO'S PUNK WHAT'S THE SCORE

  • Green day did not fuckin rip off anyone!

  • Sounds like she's a rebel by green day

  • @MsPielol only in this overproduced piece of garbage. not the original.

  • Listen to this. Then listen to mollys lips by Nirvana. Then listen to this.... Sounds like somebody was influenced

  • @EthanBackToLifeMETAL

sounds like you're ignorant. Molly's Lips is a Vaselines cover. written before this song. covered by nirvana before this album was even released. Similar riffs happen, especially since both songs intros are just G & C. fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck i hate you.

  • @suckmydickjackiecas I think he's trying to say Jawbreaker was influenced by Nirvana.

    Which is very possible.

  • @donwantstobesedated

    i fucked up

  • @suckmydickjackiecas First of all calm down. I dont mind being informed if i'm incorrect about something but jeez. second of all maybe you should take another look at my comment. I never said who was being influenced by who. I was simply making the point that the 2 guitar riffs sound very similar to me. Finally I am aware that Mollys Lips was originally written by the vaselines. I listen to the original all the time, but who is it made famous by..NIRVANA. Theres no need for your vulgarity...

  • @EthanBackToLifeMETAL

yeah, bro, i am sorry. i love you. let's be friends. i am not being facetious.

  • what a tune

  • Omg plss tell me the truth! Its punk or emo? If this emo,tel me why?

  • @polcsek10 It's both. Emo is a derivative form of punk. When you hear that something from the 80s or 90s is emo, think less along the lines of Fall Out Boy and more of stuff like Rites of Spring/Moss Icon (80s) and Jawbreaker (90s).

  • At the Black Pacific concert last night, they played this song. I was seriously on the verge of tears I was so happy.

  • THIS IS NOT THE 24 HR VERSION, it's the one from Dear You, Idk why the album art is wrong

  • I would kill a man to go back in time and see their tour with Nirvana.

  • Thats right i forgot its on the ECTcomp.I still prefer the OG version on the 24hour revenge therapy Lp though! This versions too polished!

  • is this version of boxcar on 24hour revenge therapy or dear you? it sounds like the dear you version

  • @pogoramone its also on the ECT. album

  • awsome

  • ok, Green Day totally ripped this off...

  • @TheLazzor jawbreaker and green day were friends. same area, same time era. what 90s pop punk band wasn't influenced by these guys?

  • @TheLazzor

Green Day ripped off everyone. Jawbreaker, Op Ivy, The Clash, the list goes on...

Actually, The List Goes On would be a pretty sweet band name. DIBS!

  • @MykeMetyll Explain how Green Day "ripped off" Jawbreaker, please. Or Operation Ivy for that matter. They don't sound remotely similar.

  • @londoncallingpwns

    No, I'm good.

  • @londoncallingpwns i think it sounds more like Sum 41 - Motivation

  • i saw black pacific at warped tour yesterday. I've heard a ton about Jawbreaker, but i never listened to them. Black Pacific did a cover of Jawbreaker. I decided to find which song it was. It took me a while (and i'm glad it did) but eventually I found this one. This is it. And i fucking love it.

  • whats this fuckery remix?

  • the original TRUE emo music fucking amazing

  • Comment removed

  • I like her mom she hates the scene.

  • The Mountain Goats cover of this for the A/V Club is ridiculously good. I love both versions.

  • @drewblood the mountain goats change the line about killing cops, fucking poseurs

  • @YouthClash He changes lines in covers constantly. JD and tMG are more punk than anyone. Primal shit. As JD said himself, "I play the kind of punk rock music that has existed since the time of the great painters in the caves at Lascaux."

Plus, tMG's cover is way better than the original.

  • @edg3516 no only if you like indie rock with no balls

  • @YouthClash you have no idea what you're talking about. John Darnielle is one of the greatest lyricists ever. He writes about the most primal facets of the human condition in a way that anyone can connect with.

  • @drewblood I was a fan of The Ataris cover of this on their first album "Anywhere but Here". I could be biased though.

  • @drewblood i disagree.

  • Anyone ever hear THE ATARIS' cover of this song? Pretty good also...

  • LOOOOVVVEEEEE!!!! :D

  • I miss bands like this

  • wow - this song reminds me of being a teenager. damn. forgot how great childhood was... 1-2-3-4 -who's punk, whats the score?

  • wow - this song reminds me of being a teenager. damn. forgot how great childhood was...

  • nobody "formed" a genre, it just happens. the Ramones thought they were a bubblegum pop band

  • @theTurnouts The Ramones WERE a bubblegum pop band.

  • look, stop debating the evolution of music right now. most of you never lived through it, and to the ones who did, no one cares.

  • Fantastic!

  • 6 people got there jaw broken

  • I grew up listening to a different version of the track. Different drum parts...almost identical. I wonder which version I was jammin. Does anybody know?

  • @BIZMACKY1

    The Ataris Version. lol

  • @BIZMACKY1 Mm.. you mean "She's a Rebel" from Green Day ? xd

  • @BIZMACKY1 You're probably thinking of the Ataris cover of this song.

  • emo used to be punk?

  • @deltaofwar It grew right out of the 80s hardcore punk scene.

  • @deltaofwar

    See: Dischord Records.

  • you can call it first wave emo, you can call it punk, but ya know what fuck the labels, i call it fucking AWSOME. I love this fucking band.

  • Haha! These comments are fantastic. So can anyone tell me, what's Boxcar all about?

  • Wow. Emo used to be alot cooler, apparently.

  • @Jaspedood666 This isn't Emo...!

  • @thelivingsped

This album was more hardcore than emo in my opinion, but jawbreaker was an early emo band.

  • @conradskill As much relation to modern emo as Nirvana.

  • @thebutcherhead

I hope that was an attempt at a sarcastic comment, and not you stating a fact. Frankly, your wrong.

  • im coloring outside your guidelines i was passing out while you were passing out your rules

  • sum 41 stole the chords for "Motivation"

  • Who cares what type of music this is, all that matters is that it fucking rules

  • Comment removed

  • I know I shouldn't mention this but: Listen to this song, and then Green Day's 'She's a Rebel'

  • @MeteorArmageddon OMG! Green day also have a song that sounds like 'Summer of '69'.

  • @JohnIsDaBomb44 idc i still love greenday... hahah punk rock is ftw

  • fuck yes! i am telllin everyone! the jaw b loved the k kereoauc!!!!!

  • This song got me laid and that's saying alot.

  • it´s similar grunge!but is emo.i dont understand

  • Jawbreaker is so fucking underrated

    Boxcar FTW

  • Does anyone recognise the main guitar rifts compared to a Sum 41 song?

  • YOURE NOT PUNKK AND IM TELLING EVERYONE

  • SAVE YOUR BREATH I NEVER WAS ONE

  • i was passin out while you were passin out your rules

  • This song sounds so much like Nirvana's "Mollys Lips".

  • @RebelThoughts A little bit.

  • @RebelThoughts It definitely has that feel good catch. even the end draws out the same. Thats probably why it caught me ear so quickly.

  • I feel like such an ASS. I had this album and Dear you but for some reason I never even listened to this version...wtf is wrong with me?

  • @TheBlackOnWhiteCrime Enjoy! I have come across a lot of great music way after the band broke up. makes it all the more enjoyable for some weird reason.

  • I'm pretty sure this version of Boxcar is from the reworked sessions during the Dear You recordings yet released on Etc.

  • Punk died with Buddy Holly!!

  • Thumbs up for killin' cops and reading Kerouac....

  • What ever happen to listen to music and enjoying it without controversy?

  • what would you guys say is there best album? (i got an itunes gift voucher :D)

  • Best song on the best album !!

  • this slightly sounds like nerf herder

  • let emos be emos. there's no point insulting people, no matter how bad their youth cult is.

Jawbreaker are good, i'm new to them so i'm gonna get 24 Hour, along with Shape of Punk to Come, and So Long and Thanks for All the Shoes. wish my generation listened to more stuff like this, etc.

  • I have to say jawbox is better, but it's not bad

  • all i can say about your arguing is 1-2-3-4 who's punk what's the score

  • oh no, what kind of music am i listening to? is it emo? is it punk? can i wear skinny jeans while i listen to it? oh god, music so complicated!!!!!

  • meant for the reply lol

  • What you are thinking of is fake, trendy, mainstream emo, Real Emo or Emotive Hardcore, is bands such as Mineral, Cap'n Jazz, Texas is the Reason, Drive like Jehu, Joan of Arc The Get Up Kids, Sunny Day Real Estate, Some Weezer, and early At the Drive In.

Has nothing to do with this song, or punk so i apologize.

Just wanted to give some insight.

  • time to whine about emo... only joking.

    this song interests me more.

  • holy shit, just realized sum 41 totally stole this riff in the song motiviation.

  • g, c, g, d, c!

  • yeah thats what i wanna know whATS THE SCORE?

  • This isn't the 24 hour Revenge Therapy version! Hmm

  • @Hitcheroo definitely not. I like this version way better though!

  • @Hitcheroo no it was more out of tune and dark wasn't it? a little less fast and poppy as i remember the cassette hahaha

  • I fully concur, roger. Good post, bud. Absolutely.

  • it's music you fucking pussies. listening to it and stop bitching. just because green day has made a better career than any band since the beatles doesn't mean they're mainstream and who cares who's punk and who wrote what riff. it's possible that they both thought of it, that doesn't mean green day stole it fuck faces

  • Can't believe some people call this punk!

  • This isnt the album its from.

  • Jawbreaker- Boxcar> Green Day- She's a Rebel, although both are very good songs :D

  • i lost my virginity to this and now i rap

  • im the same as U brother. the commercialization of the sound that was new and so fresh to us wayback then has been raped a pillaged by people who only want to get paid. i am from the u.k.and was so exited to see jawbreaker play in norwich, but even though they arrived they had to pull out cuz blake the singer had a bad case of throat cancer and couldnt perform. gutted.... then next year or the year after i got to see them play in nottingham. this is the true spirit of punk NEVER GIVE IN!

  • this songs about the stupidity of arguing about bands being sell-outs.... and all the comments are about green day, alkaline trio and other bands who "sold out"... GREAT!

  • no fuck you you loser. emo has been around since the 80s. your an idiot

  • nice to see the populace of youtube getting their titties in a twist

you're all listening to the wrong song haha

    bunch of smeggy bell ends

  • SOOOO true!!! In the mid to late 90's when all this was coming out......there was no such genre as EMO!!!

  • @jmwalker79 Emotivehardcore. yes. there was.

  • As others have noted, the brilliance of this song lies in the irony, which Blake knew as he wrote it. From the get, the lyric says "You're not punk and I'm telling everyone".

It points out the stupidity of arguing about labels, genres and selling out. Yet here you are, the legions of morons, arguing about labels, genres and who is or is not punk.

The rest of us thank you. Your ignorance amuses us all.

  • @vsander09 AMEN!!!!

  • @vsander09 AMEN!!!

  • Everyone commenting on this songs genre should take a second to listen to the lyrics, do you not see the irony?? People need to quit arguing and enjoy brilliant music. :)

  • i love how everyones arguing about whats punk and whats not, on the comments to this song. if you cant find the irony, you dont know the song.

  • @coolethan1251 so true. i was thinking the same thing.

  • your not punk and im tellin everyone

  • i think we should all agree on one thing, every type of music is good, except for, hip hop, country, classical, and most rap.

  • @zombiecupcake321 give me a break......grow up and expand your horizons.

  • @zombiecupcake321 I think this is probably the most ignorant comment yet.

  • This sounds like Motivation by Sum 41

  • Okay, Im an old schooler who listened to J.B. when it was all new. I've been clicking on some of my favorite J.B. songs and all of the comments keep bringing up emo shit. This is punk. There was no such thing as emo when this was released. Emo kids were still swimming in their daddys balls and I was skating to real music. Fuck emo, and stop wearing your sister pants douchebags. Wah, I bet you want to cut yourself now. Stop being a pussy and finish the job PLEASE!

  • amen

  • @rogerthatrocks you are pretty ignorant. I love Jawbreaker and punk as much as the next guy, but REAL emo music is not bad at all. Ever hear of Cap'n Jazz? Rites of Spring? Emo didn't originate with MCR or whatever and was actually a good genre of music before kids with their razorblades and eyeliner came in and messed it up. Also, there was such thing as emo during the time and even before this album came out. Brush up on your facts before you go around sounding like an even bigger idiot.

  • @GREENWARRI0R Indie sux, Hard-line sux, Emo sux, YOU SUCK!

  • @amorton79 enjoy your ignorance bro.

  • @GREENWARRI0R NO, you enjoy yours.

  • @GREENWARRI0R

Guy Picciotto approves this message. I'm really tired of emo being pitched as a new thing because people can make money off of it.

  • @GREENWARRI0R Saw cap'n jazz last week in Austin :)

  • @Himmelfahrth Dude, that's awesome! I saw them in April I believe it was. One of the best shows I've ever been to.

  • @GREENWARRI0R Hey dude, just saw your comment haha, I'm never signed on to my youtube account. I saw this band called Grown Ups a few months ago in Austin for a SXSW / Count Your Lucky Stars / Topshelf records showcase. If you haven't heard of them (which you probably have by now because they are getting really big) I highly recommend them. rad dudes too.

  • @GREENWARRI0R Assfactor4!

  • @rogerthatrocks i dont think emo means what you think it means look up rites of spring

  • @rogerthatrocks Emo is actually a term that came out of old school "Hardcore" music. When the people in those bands started tog row up, some of them anted to write more meaningful stuff. The term "Emo" popped up god knows how, but at this point it's been put to shame by a horrible sense of fashion.

  • @rogerthatrocks emo was around since the 80's haha, im not defending it or anything, but it started in the 80's

  • @rogerthatrocks i think you're getting a little confused, emo isnt like hawthorne heights and all that stupid shit which has nothing in common with jawbreaker.. REAL emo is stuff like rites of spring, mineral ect, which is amazing, and has a lot in common with jawbreaker

  • @rogerthatrocks Emo was a variation of hardcore punk, stupid.

  • @rogerthatrocks WELL SAID BROTHER!, WELL SAID.

  • @rogerthatrocks THANK YOU!!!!!

  • @rogerthatrocks Yeah sorry people have decided to put jawbreaker and sunny day real estate into early 90's emo label as the head of that period. It's just people and their need to label something. So to alotta people...jawbreaker is sadly early 90's emo in their minds. Blame labels and critics for creating that term in the 80's by the way.

  • @rogerthatrocks

those aren't emo kids those are "non-conformists". (why do they all look the same anyway?)

    learn your stuff man.

    /sarcasm.

  • @rogerthatrocks emo was started in the late 1980's/early 90's by bands like fugazi and rites of spring, and jawbreaker. sorry pal.

  • @BennyTheWhale

fugazi wasn't really emo, more hardcore.

Emo sorta started in the 80's, but grew in the 90's with stuff like jawbreaker and sunny day real estate and stuff

  • @conradskill yeah, but fugazi was the leading pioneer. no questions. regardless, he's saying there was no such thing as emo around that time, and he is dead wrong.

  • @conradskill Emo IS hardcore. You can't have an emo band that isn't hardcore. That would totally take its meaning.

  • @loveriamloveless336

Emo is a daughter of hardcore, not the other way around. While many emo bands can be considered hardcore as well, emo and hardcore are not synonymous. In my opinion, the music of Fugazi is hardcore and not emo.

  • @conradskill Okay, maybe I worded that incorrectly. What I meant was: You can have hardcore without it being emo, but emo is always hardcore.

  • @rogerthatrocks do you fail to see the irony of arguing over genres while commenting on this specific song?

  • @rogerthatrocks yo actually emo was created in 1985 with rites of spring...

  • @rogerthatrocks Look here: You were clearly ignorant to your local scene, because Emo WAS a genre before MCR and Fallout Boy bastardised it.

  • @rogerthatrocks Amen to that my man, I listened to Jawbreaker, Smoking Popes, Descendents; etc back in the old days also. & yeah it was just punk & still is to anyone that matters. I never want these great bands to be associated with the shit that is emo.

  • @rogerthatrocks Actually original emo is a kind of genre not their wearing style, not many people dont know what real emo is. emo is also a kind of punk rock .However, nowadays post hardcore bands that wear stupid fashion makes emo are become a bad meaning. At least you are right, this band make lots of good music .
