  • Does this hurt after I woke up of the operation?

  • I had this surgery a year ago and it was pretty amazing. I was unfortunate enough to have my other nostril blocked by a growth of some sort.. Now I can breath through my nose and I've started to smell things a little bit. Sadly almost all strong scents that I can pick up are usually bad XD

This is a very intersting video :] I like having an idea of what went on in my nose during the surgery haha.

  • Thanks for your comments.

  • it doesn't hurt at all, there's a little bit of discomfort for a few weeks but that's about it though, you'll probably get pain medication anyway.. as far as feeling like you have a cold that lasts a lot longer than a week, it was more like a month for me.

  • Dear KBD: Girls can have this surgery at 14 yrs old. Males we wait til 16 years old. We can intervene earlier if recent trauma or if sinus problems. The outside of the nose shouldn't change with correction of deviated nasal septum. Some patients have cosmetic (correction of outside appearance) and septal surgery (medically necessary surgery) together. After surgery most patients just feel like they have a cold with nasal congestion for about a week. This is not painful surgery. Good Luck BTS MD

  • It looks like you busted a hole through to the other side how do you fix that?

  • Are u always replace cartilage after removal ? is there a chance of recurrence by doing so ?

  • While anything is possible..(displacement of cartilage graft causing obstruction), I suture and fixate the septal cartilage graft to he the mucosal flaps. They have always remained midline.

  • Dear Doc,

I have a deviTED SEPTUM WHAT WOULD BE THE COST OF OPERATION,

    tHANKS

  • There are several costs to fix your nose. There are usually 3 separate fees to be considered. The anesthesiologist, the facility fee (expensive equipment to insure your safety) and the surgeons fee. The cost would be at a minimum of $4,000. Probably less in Mississippi (less overhead) and less outside the USA.

    Sincerely,

  • im DR. mahes from india .

DR.schaeffer, r u going to remove the stapler postop? is there a chance for septal perforation?

  • The staples either dissolve or I remove them by suctioning them out at one to two weeks post op. Unlikely they will cause a perforation. The mucoperichondrium to mucopericondrium are usually well seated by one week post op.

  • What do doctors think about when they are operating? Are they nervous at all, or are they fully confident? Thanks for your time.

  • I can only speak for myself. If I was nervous I wouldn't be operating. I am confident but respectful of surgery and aware of all that is going around me in the room. Aware of what my hands are doing on the patients body. Never taking anything for granted. What I'm thinking... I am focusing on what I'm doing and planning my next 2-3 steps to successfully complete the surgical procedure.
