Canadian Brass is so amazing. No matter if they are playing the Duke or a simple bernstein piece like this, it always remains so pure and true. often, i believe that their transcriptions come out more accurate a examplify the music better than the original arrangement
Really? That's weird because I have played this arrangement, and it was only for five players. I could be wrong but I'm fairly certain that's called a quintet.
Not to brag, but I was listening to this in my car with Jens Lindemann, the soloist on this recording and he told me there were 3 trumpets parts on this arrangement. What you buy from the Canadian Brass, isn't always what was on the album.
Interesting way of "not bragging." =P But you're right: this is from the album, "Canadian Brass Plays Bernstein" with Jens Lindemann on this piece. I suspect, though, that the tune IS arranged for quintet and they simply modified it for an extra trumpet player. Jens Lindemann does that a lot. Awesome tune.
It's not just Jens who does that. Lots of quintets bring in extra players and nobody knows. This IS available to purchase from Canadian as a quintet, but wasn't originally recorded that way. Still fantastic playing and the rest of the album too. Makes it one of my favorite Canadian albums.
No, you're right. It's just for quintet--at least this recording. This on is my favorite on the album and I've honestly listened to it easily over 100 times over the years. I may have seen them do this live too.
@brianferguson90 I am not sure but I think they sell all of or most of their arrangements. If you go to a sheet music store then they might have it. I played it at a brass quintet camp that I went to when I was in high school.

This was from one of the last albums I bought (the Bernstein album). I lost interest in the Canadian Brass after Jens left. Just not the same group anymore to me. Plus brass quintets in general got old for me. I'd much rather listen to larger brass group these days.
please. please please give me sheet music...

What kind of Tuba is the one with the black bell? and where could I get one?
iliketopmoveit 1 year ago
@iliketopmoveit I'm pretty sure that's a carbon fiber bell. Custom jobs that very few people get done for their horns. I've seen it on trombones too
