  • Beginning of the clip == candace bergen??

  • People will fight about anything. Smh..

  • Peggy lee was a big sexy woman

  • Two great talents. Profound.

  • peggy lee is so smooth if i were prez id have everyone under me talk to me in the fashion she sings

  • 1:11 "You know, you don't always sing great, but you write beautiful songs."

Peggy's face: IMMA FUCKIN SHIV A BITCH

  • @rainbowoctopus420 she said "you NOT ONLY sing great, but you write beautiful songs." She stuttered a little bit, so I can understand why you thought she said don't. She started to say "don't" then stuttered, and corrected herself.

  • Peggy<3

  • My God, the talent, charisma and style between these two - utterly fantastic

  • aw poor judy... she looks extremly tired in this vid... still her voice is amazing

  • @LuceroLucifer Judy was chewed up by the business and pills and booze by this time.

  • @just4tunes yeah... it's a shame because she was so amazing... the business was so brutal back then.

  • I LOVE that dress Judy is wearing. Why can't women wear things like that these days, instead of showing as much skin as they can get away with?

  • Nice high quality black and white master!

  • Maybe I'm overanalyzing, but they look like they hate each other.. The tension is nearly palpable. :o

  • @rainbowoctopus420 Peggy Lee looks confident. Judy Garland looks a bit nervous. And Peggy Lee looks bigger and more imposing. Maybe it's the dress?

  • womens suffrage and constant obsession with equating with men is what made them lose their identity and talent. umad?

  • that was so cool!

  • Just perfect!

  • Just perfect!

  • so elegant and classy

  • Peggy Lee's dress is a miracle.

  • Oh my, two gemini's on just ONE stage? What a fabulous team haha. God I love them both!!! =D

  • @MissGarland20 I'm a Gemini too! I'm Judy's same height, eye and hair color, vocal range, and even I (don't purposely, I think it's natural after watching her for so long) her same hand, face and body gestures when we talk and sing....weird, huh?

  • What a babe! (Peggy, I mean).

  • Beautiful black and white.

  • Chubby girls always age better.

  • Such class and genuine talent : ) I wish I was old enough to have seen these two lovely ladies perform in person, but at least their voices live on through their videos.

  • This is a good duet!

  • I can't beleeive that Peggy Lee and Judy Garland really know eatch other.

  • Comment removed

  • Of all the non-concert episodes, # 11, #13 and #16 provide more than ample proof that Judy had it all as a singer, a comedienne, and a dancer. I sometimes like to imagine her going on to equal heights as a late night talk show host. If only CBS had played fair with her. Well at least we have one season of her great talent on full display to enjoy. God bless.

  • Peggy was actually only two years older than Judy but Judy looks twenty years older. Booooz and drugz... they are killers.

  • This made me smile.

  • Two people wouldn't know talent if it got on stage and sang a duet for them :)

  • DAMN! I mean WOW!

  • I just consider myself lucky to have lived on this beautiful planet at the same time as these talented ladies. Class will live forever.

  • after fangirling over the duet, and watching the video, the most thing that surprised me was that head and shoulders was still around then XXDD

  • @jrb1802uk This was done in either 1963 or 1964. That's the only time the show ran.

  • A nice stiff drink is all judy wants to be with.

  • @bwb3636 What a mean-spirited thing to say.

  • @ANCESTERSMEMORIES Its true, but not intentional. She accidentally overdosed on sleeping pills. She wasn't a druggie or anything.

  • @TreeHugger116 Understand her life, and know especially that she was a workhorse commodity for MGM cold-hearted self-serving greedy moguls. Quite abused. Those lording over/cracking the whip had her do uppers and downers from a very young age--she didn't choose on her own. Understand all that and more, and you will know her sterling spirit and character still rises above all of it. It was through no flaw of her own that she became a victim of drug addiction. Respect, admire, love her.

  • one of the biggest surprises i have ever had about a drug use

    was about judy garland

,my 8th grade teacher told me that

    he followed her carreer

  • anyone know which song judy is talking about that peggy wrote in the begininng?

  • @jLynn0330

The song is called "It's A Good Day". You can find it on YT

  • @jLynn0330 @jLynn0330 The song that Judy sang before this clip and the Peggy wrote is "It's a Good Day" (like lenasglad said). Also, the song that Judy and Peggy sing in this clip was written by Peggy, too. If you type "i love being here with you peggy lee" in SEARCH, you'll see solo versions by Peggy, from when she was older.

  • What year would this have been please?

  • Comment removed

  • youse?

  • whatever happened to class?...it was here aw little while ago?...now its gone.

  • I was born in the wrong era!! :( Why is music like this which is obviously superior not appreciated now?? Just discovered Peggy Lee and think I shall be watching a lot more videos of her on YouTube!! Thanks!!

  • As a boomer, I grew up with Peggy Lee and liked her songs a lot i.e. "Fever" & others. She did the Siamese Cats song in Lady & the Tramp. But I never knew she had a whole other career in the 40's singing with the Big Bands esp as Benny Goodman's female vocalist until I punched her name in ITunes. I ended up downloading the whole Big Band album and she was simply great & it gave me a diff perspective of just how talented this girl really was. I'm a big fan now.

  • These are truely powerful women of Class. I wonder what Judy would say if she were asked to strip naked and kiss other women? In order to be cast in film and music. I think she would say that she didn't work her whole life so she would not have to compromise and degrade herself in such a way. What women claim as 'liberation and power' today would have been insulting to women like Judy. And those who worked to keep their clothes ON by showcasing their talents and intellect.

  • @PLEASANTDesigns I like you

  • @PLEASANTDesigns LOL No she wouldn't, she was too busy not degrading herself taking drugs and getting drunk. ;D

I mean really dude...Judy Garland is hardly a shiny example of "liberation and power". Wonderful singer, actress and dancer though.

As for singers today..perhaps if you manage to look beyond the hit parade you'd find out there are actually many , mainly sober, usually dressed, singers about right now. Though admittedly some do kiss women but not to get a part in a movie. ;)

  • @reddragonready You are out of your mind. no matter what Ms Garland did in her private life. She never compromised herself in her work or in the public eye. Your comment doesn't hold water and no there are few women of class these days. You are an idiot and your comment about 'kissing women' offers others insight into your sick, warped mindset. Most people fight to defend their evils. To hell with your Antifamily, anti-man, anti-human FemNazi 'Liberation'. Guess what? I don't care.

  • @PLEASANTDesigns Wow dude, talk about being "out of your mind"! You are the one bringing up the subject "liberation and power" pf women. Why do that if you "don't care"?

YOUR feelings about women kissing women , not to mention that entire reply also speaks volumes on your mental health.

No idea where exactly I said anything anti family, anti men or anti human but you on the other hand just twice declared a woman who allowed men to destroy her, some kind of shiny role model for women. ROFLMAO

  • @reddragonready You seem to have a lot of time on your hands. The sheer time you devote to this offers more about you than the claims you make about me. What a loser. I have no time to entertain your deranged thoughts.

  • @PLEASANTDesigns Sorry dude, I responded to your first comment before realizing you had posted two. Which came first then? Your claim I am spending more time than you deserve on your sad self? Or your claim I am having a conversation by myself?

Ah well, as sanity will have it, my response covered both your delusions. :)

  • @reddragonready Indeed, count the number of posts you have made on youtube.

Would be nice to have you insult me to my face. But you lack the guts to do that, thus the reason why you use youtube and cower behind a display screen. Again, so predictable. Classic. LOL

  • @PLEASANTDesigns Indeed I wouldn't. You have to be real careful with what you say face to bat shit crazy face. :)

Btw dear, seeing as you ARE mentally challenged, allow me to explain. It is rather hard to insult people face to face but if you will share with us your real name and address mr Pleasantdesigns, I will try to remember it and if I ever run into you I might just insult you in person.

  • @PLEASANTDesigns That is of course assuming you will be released from the institute after this present melt down of yours. What happened dear, nurses take your computer access away after your previous melt down here a MONTH ago?

    ROFLMAO

  • @PLEASANTDesigns LOL where exactly did I say anything anti family, men or humans? I merely pointed out that great an artist as she was, Garland was destroyed by drugs and alcohol. And you claiming that this is how women should be, is truly being "out of your mind".

The fact that you have no sense of humor and clearly your remark wasn't even inspired by Judy's musical talent but teaparty politics attest to you "excellent"mental state even more. And don't lie dear, you are degrading yourself. ;)

  • @PLEASANTDesigns PS anybody who knows a bit more of Garland than this video knows she has stood on stage "in public" clearly very drunk.

My point was not to criticize Judy but to joke about your nonsense and, to me, more importantly, to refute your claim about musicians today. Now off you go back to your Xfactor Dreamgirls videos dear hypocrite. :)

  • @reddragonready Still posting? hahahah. You are funny. Please continue to carry on a conversation with yourself.

  • @PLEASANTDesigns LOL doll, is that your way of retreating then? Pretending a response to your reply is "having a conversation with yourself"?

My my, you really are delusional if you think you are coming out anything less than batshit crazy here. But no worries...I will grant you that sad attempt at saving yourself from further displaying your delusional personality. Have a nice day now. :)

  • @reddragonready Had to get the final word in eh? Yet you express that I am "batshit crazy"? The entire time I have been laughing at your funny posts. You are so predictable. CLASSIC

  • @reddragonready There's a video here on youtube with Garland singing 'Nothing Could be finer than to be in Carolina" and she looks drunk to me. But she still sang a good song.

  • @reddragonready I love the name calling. So intelligent. LOL =)

  • @PLEASANTDesigns Hey, I call them as I see them honey. :)

  • @PLEASANTDesigns That must explain then why you in your very first response to me felt so okay with doing just that. Or is it merely that you were demonstrating your theory on "people this day to be far more vile, immoral and degenerate". That WOULD also explain not just you insulting me but also your hypocrisy in complaining about people today yet favoring the videos you favor. ;)

  • @PLEASANTDesigns Hear, hear.. Well said!

  • @PLEASANTDesigns You know, they had to do all that stuff then too, it's just there was much more hypocrisy and it was all done behind the scenes. Now everyone let's it all hang out but I guarantee you many of the starlets did a lot of obscene things behind the scenes in those days too, LOL.

  • @james1200 I disagree. I do not think that Julie Garland made porno tapes. I do not buy into the everyone is bad mentality. I was not born in the 80's or 90's so my view of the world has not been skewed to accept that ideology. I find people this day to be far more vile, immoral and degenerate than in any other period in the modern era in this land. Though many people engaged in negative actions, though not to the extremes that we see today.

  • @PLEASANTDesigns Judy Garland perhaps didn't but Marilyn Monroe certainly did. And I and millions still love her. Lucille Ball did;she was a prostitute in New York in the 1930's and Hollywood knew it and didn't care. Rock Hudson had to sleep with his agent to get him to represent him and that agent was known for making sleeping with him a condition for getting work for all his famous clients. James Dean was a well known male whore...I can go on for a while. So now no more hypocrisy unlike then.

  • @james1200 The "information" you are touting here is speculation from a highly criticized and disputed book. It is a load of rubbish. I am not saying that former generations were pure as snow, but I think these assertions are absurd. BUT I will say that artists like this had to actually PERFORM the song without all the bells and whistles they have today. It is refreshing seeing and hearing music recorded LIVE. No reverb, no crap play back, no pyrotechnics...just the music.

  • @swarze Whatever. I know enough history to know that every new generation that's coming up is considered to have inferior culture. They said it about jazz & swing in the 20's, those kids grew up & hated on rock in the 50's, & they grew up and hated on metal & disco & so on & so on. I'm in my twenties and I love Judy Garland, I love Sinatra, I love GaGa, Madonna. Those of you who are attacking the music of your fathers are missing out and y'all who are attacking my generation are too.

  • @james1200 You must have misread my comment. I am not "hating on" as you say anyone's music (y'all??) You have your guard way up. I studied classical music, I am a professional musician, and I teach music. My tastes sail across all times, cultures, and genres. I don't think subsequent generations of music stinks anymore than I think music from 400 years ago stinks. I love MUSIC. I love GOOD music. I am not pigeon holing you, so please don't do the same to me.

  • To james1200: I'd like to offer an alternative view on this point you made: "Those of you who are attacking the music of your fathers are missing out and y'all who are attacking my generation are too."

Consider this: Nobody is missing out on anything simply because they don't like it. Music is emotional, so it can't be forced on people. And emotions lead people to music they like.

Also, my M. M. from Juilliard taught me that music, which is entertainment, is "good" if someone likes it. :)

  • dazzling. you can't help but smile listening to that banter, this song, and these brightly shining stars.

  • Poor Judy :( This is after the drugs got her.

  • Classy talented ladies...try to find that on TV now !

  • Peggy Lee Amazing! 2:36-2:48

  • Judy looks horrible! Super thin and frail, much older than I think she is, she was born in '22!

  • I know...so sad. I've watched every clip of Judy's show on here, w/ Babs, Liza, Peggy etc...Unreal talent. We may never see performers like this again. I'm a performing musician and am afraid of losing good music like this forever!!!

  • @pedaltonz

Why sad? I think it is great. There are still some great voices out there but there won't be another Lee,Garland,Piaf or Fitzgerald but it makes me happy to hear and see these old videos . The only sad thing is that she died so young, the good thing is her music and these others are now forever with us. I do not think we will ever lose good music as long as someone listens to it.

  • It is not just music but art too. All that is meaningful and made to a higher standard is under attack. Commericalism and a blatant attack on true artists is underway. True artists amd musicians are being cut and literally put out of work. They are passed over for the cheap and the mediocre. That which had depth is looked down upon vs that which is made from emptiness. Percussion is silenced and emotional content is excluded. All of this is deliberate. You aren ot alone in your feelings.

  • Judy had several "participating sponsors" during her hour-long series, American Tobacco's Lucky Strike among them- and Procter & Gamble, General Mills, and Menley & James' "Contac". John Harlan is the announcer. There was a "station break" at 3:56, which began with a brief network promo, with telop slide and CBS eye logo {i.e. "Join John Daly and the panel as they attempt to guess the world's most unusual occupations on 'WHAT'S MY LINE?', later tonight on the CBS Television Network"}....

  • ...followed by a 20 second local spot advertisement and station I.D. {"WCBS-TV, Channel 2, New York"}, then back to the show at 3:59.

  • like both of you...

  • the one on the right is tiny

  • Judy had high heels on, and was STILL shorter!

  • this is too cool :D - i wonder if you can buy the judy garland show on dvd?

  • @alleyt1989 yes, it didn't last long so the whole thing is available in one set.

  • Two marvelous singers!!!

  • Peggy was the first to write her own material, like pop star

    this duet is wonderful

  • lovely ladies and lovely voices and lovely wow...

  • What a wonderful clip. Thank you. Two beautiful women with voices still unmatched.

  • god bring back the times when there was actualy talent and music... and cigaret commercials...:)

  • new favourite videoooo!

  • Wow, How Amazing!

  • Oh thank you for posting this, I love Judy Garland and I love Peggy Lee and I love this song you made my day!!!

  • Now that's what I call a friendly battle of the Divas!

  • Judy an Peggy were great! Even though the segment was scripted & commonly used cue cards & rehearsed, They both made it effortless in believing that the it was all off the cuff. Their ribbing each other was funny without any form of insults made to Judy; Like during the shows when Jerry Van Dyke was on. He was an anchor around The Judy Garland Show's neck. He didn't bring an ounce of comedy to the series which was suppose to be a huge Gem in the crown jewels of the Tiffany Network's lineup.

  • what! these guys are awesome! im jealous of anyone who got to live in a time filled with these kind of performers' gifts.

There is rarely such good music on the radio anymore. I feel suffocated with the rest of the 21st century babies listening to 107.9.

  • Judy Garland: The Concert years in 1985 on PBS Lorna, talking about the 1951 Palace concert said Judy "stood there only 4'11" but bigger than life". That night when the show was a hit & at the endof the run, she broke the house record for 19 sold out wks.Judy was a Living Legend.@ 29. She conquered everything but TV.In '55 Her 1st. CBS special ranked top of the ratings. When Judy had more weight on, her voice had even more Power. She seemed naturally taller on screen. Judy & Peg were great here!

  • what idiot pressed dislike? how can you not totally adore these elegant timeless women!

  • Yeah the magic is gone.....humanity is gone -

  • Yeah the magic is gone.....humanity is gone -

  • Yay Head&Shoulders!

  • damn where are all those good singers ??? i really would like to live in this era of music... and not in this of all covers and sh**

  • Judy was always Generous to other Singers. You can see how she always gives them attention and makes the audience appreciate the other singer

  • I alread fastened my safety belt,it didn't help because that part has me wanting to jump up

  • wow i never realized just how strong a voice judy has over peggy. but the harmonize so amazingly well.

  • Judy was always nervous on TV. Judy always wanted to be 100%. I imagine hosting a huge TV show & CBS destroy it from day one! Its the Sta who carries the weight.& It's a daunting task with a live audience. Its not right for people to rag on her since she passed on. So many ppl assume she is drunk etc. If we worked half as hard as she did I wonder how many of us would still be standing? We all heard the stories but lets move on and enjoy the body of work & be happy she did all this for us.

  • This was the twilight of hotness for Peggy-Judy looks like a squeezed lemon just out of Re-Hab.

  • god i love these ladies. poor judy looks awful, MGM was just awful to her. so glad there were cameras around to catch this.

  • Its kinda looks like Judy was checking her out lol

  • Hollywood in those days was like a small town. Everyone knew everyone. The public never knew the very normal lives almost all stars lived. It was hardly the doped, drinking-sogged life so often the subject of this and that. Most stars were raising families, went to church on Sunday (with a potluck dinner every month), and dropping by the neighbors' house for dinner was the favorite Saturday night enjoyment. Many stars prepared those dinners, too.

  • Wow, 2 legends together.

I will never ever get to meet or see these 2 people and it bums me the fuck out..

Time is such a cruel thing..

I would love to go back to the 50's, early 60's just to experience the era but I know it will never happen..

Rest in peace Judy & Peggy.

  • Judy looks haggard- did she drink and smoke?

Peggy on the other hand still sounds young.

  • I think Peggy Lee was the sexy, sultry version of Doris Day...

  • They are BOTH marvelous !

  • This is great, a perfect balance of voice and personalities.

  • Oh my gosh! "Like" 100 times! I love them both!

So going in my favorites. Thank you for posting!

  • Two great vocalists sitting down, and still swinging great.

Two different personalties, and they both looks so relaxed, and swinging hard.

I love everything Peggy, and this was a great clip, thanks for sharing!

  • To the 1 person who disliked this video. Go f**k off and listen to Justin Bieber!

  • @Leanashe23 amen!

  • gotta love the ad for Luckys at the end! Delightful video. Thanks!

  • Dear Lord what happened to talent like this? We will sadly NEVER see this again and to think it came into our homes every night of the week for free.

  • @Robert4770 It went the same way as Lucky Strike cigarettes. Never to be seen again.

  • @Robert4770 Yes, Alas. The class has gone .

  • @Robert4770 Never is a strong word. don't say it. There is vision and talent out there, it just needs to be coaxed out of hiding. have faith my friend.

  • @Robert4770

Preach it loud! What a tear it brings.......

  • @Robert4770 Talent still exists- they just don't get reality TV shows because apparently people would much rather watch idiots taking their clothes off.

  • @Robert4770 A truism if ever there was: you don't know what you've got till it's gone.

  • @Robert4770 the talent is still out there, it's just that nobody swings like that anymore!!! ;o)

  • @Mischeaux61 SWING and Sing EVERYBODY! :D

  • Favourite duet EVER!!!!!!!

  • It's amazing the youth you can see in Judy Garland's face.

  • There you are...two of the top female vocalists of all time.

  • lol I like the cigarette ad at the end, they wouldn't dare advertise it like that anymore

  • @tCrOMez1990 I know what u mean, I like the cigarette ads back then. I remember when the TV shows had one sponsor and sometime two and would air their commercials in the middle of the show. Now days when I watch old tv shows especially the sitcoms, Today they have a commercial every 8 minutes or so and they cut out many of the jokes and relevant scenes and the show ends up choppy. Today's shows have too many sponsors and too many commercial breaks.

  • Nice!!

Come on over and watch my version of FEVER (-:

    Romana from Germany

  • She prefers the East and the West to the South.... I guess she's part of team Elphie!!! Yay! (Don't mind me, I've been listening to the Wicked soundtrack on HEAVY rotation as of late...)

  • @CountessKarma High 5!

  • It breaks my heart to think of what they did to her - the way they got her hooked on those drugs from the time she was a child, and there was no one there to save her from herself. I love you, Judy Garland, rest in peace.

  • This episode is said to be Judy's Favorite becuse she and Peggy were great friends..

  • Judy looks so pretty, peggy you're the best!

  • The Best of the Best!!

  • what did they say about ella fitzgerald?

  • from a time when women were classy, beautiful, feminine and knew how to conduct themselves .... 2 fabulous role models if you want to be a LADY!!!

  • judy garlands funny and peggy lees got a very good voice

  • the two greats together!!! i could cry!

  • I can't stop watching this,it's just amazing :) :D

  • look at judy garland's face during the "somewhere over the rainbow" reference. anyone else catch on to that? idk she kind of looked different for a moment like she was remembering something

  • @MegaParcel I posted a similar comment about Judy's expression when Peggy started to sing Over the rainbow.. :)

  • Offered by Lucky Strike!

  • this is hilarious!

  • Judy always gushed over her guests and showed such respect ..I think that all of her guests were in awe of Judy and her Legend persona and overwhelming talent...She made them look good and raised their game but no one ever out sang her, not Streisand or Anyone ..period !!! Shame on CBS for cancelling her show....Basterds !!

  • With vintage commercials!

  • Thank God (figure of speech--there is no god) these were goddesses!!!!! thank God (who doesn't exist).

  • Two of my favorites. Awesome!

  • I have never in my life heard a voice like Judy's. It's unique. There will never be another singer like Judy.

  • love these two-noone sings as sexy as peggy and noone is as great an entertainer as garland.

  • i rented this not to long ago & i love it! they are so cool!

couldn't help notice the nasty tabacco co. adds.

  • There could not be a better duet. <33

  • This is why we go back to the great singers of past. If any are like that now, please tell me......class, poise, and flat-out talent. Judy, Peggy, Frank, Dean, Fred and Ginger, Ella, the whole bunch were just all that, and a bag of chips.....thanks for this clip. Greg, of "Ameritalian".

  • I love how Judy says "marvelous"

    makes me smile every time

  • wow this duet is great. both of them look marvolous

  • Peggy Lee is two years older than Judy! She looks beautiful here!

  • Oh no, nobody is overdressed. Peggy's dress is perfect for her astonishing solo, which preceded this duet. Right after she finished the solo, Judy joined her. To see the solo, type "Peggy Lee on The Judy Garland Show" or "When the World Was Young".

  • Peggy Lee's gown looks like it was "borrowed" by the great Van Smith for Divine in "Pink Flamingos." Smith just changed the color and added a pointed cuffs. Too funny!

  • @squeaky00 If you watch the Judy show with Peggy, they dressed them in opposite colors Peggy Had Platinum Blone hair so they had her in Black and Judy had Brown hair and in a light colored dresses. Peggy was Vuluptous and Black was more flattering for her figure. They were great friends and this was Judy's personal favorite show.
