With news of Glen Campbell's Alzheimer's, the lyrics here of memory and mortality are all the more poignant. Then again, "Gentle on My Mind" takes on deeper meaning too.
I love the Green Day version, but this one is better! The mandolin is a great touch! I enjoyed the montage in this video because it summs up what this song is about.
If Glen makes a few more albums like this one (it is amazing) he will can attain some of the cross over succes that Cash had.
Don't get me wrong the "Rhinestone Cowboy" is no Johnny Cash! Really, I dont think Campbell is trying.
I am an old time Glen Campbell fan and I know he could have done a stronger job on this song. Nevertheless, I liked this version well enough to post it.
People often fail to realize how important the producer is in making a "record" to draw the best possible performance out of the artist.
And thanks fishbone for getting what the lyrics, pictures and graphics are all about. I'm not sure how many people get it.

Absolutely great work on this video. The sound was better and I liked the way how you presented Glen here.
The album is one of his best and this version is gold. "walls" is my favorite from the new album.
Thanks

Why not? Johnny Cash is all over the indie/new stuff stations. And Glen does a pretty good job.
Does this mean country western is dead?

Great to hear it sung by a man with a bit of milage under his belt. Seen everything got the t shirt. Just brilliant.

The first time I heard this was on the radio at work - it sounds so natural I was convinced that Green Day must have covered it. Not a word of a lie.

I also thought Green Day covered it too, had to look up who actually wrote it. It works very well with this style!

I only wish that Glen had played the guitar on this piece since he's one of the very best that ever recorded.
