@BlongBlarble only people who care whether their beliefs are correct and supported by evidence...not creationists, anyway.
they continue to bring up behe's same erronous "irreducible complexity" arguments over and over again, apparently not caring that he doesn't have a scientific leg to stand on.
Lehigh University: "The faculty in the Department of Biological Sciences is committed to the highest standards of scientific integrity...This commitment...demands the utmost respect for the scientific method...
The department faculty, then, are unequivocal in their support of evolutionary theory... It is our collective position that intelligent design has no basis in science, has not been tested experimentally, and should not be regarded as scientific.
@castelgandalf At the same time they would not look for intelligent design even if it was as obvious as day. Scientists are for the most part denied grants and promotions if they even mention ID in theory. Therefore the scientific community is not interested in exploring ID, real or otherwise. It is sad that science has become so narrow minded.
@borgoff55 science has the process of peer review, it is self-correcting. people rejected wegener and plate tectonics, but eventually that mistake was corrected. a lof of incorrect ideas have fallen by the wayside like white holes, the big crunch, geocentrism and creationism. behe's problem is not that he hasn't been heard. he's been heard, rejected by science & thrown out of court along with intelligent design and irreducible complexity.
@castelgandalf You mention peer review as if that meant something. Just more biased scientists looking over the same material. How slow is science to really correct itself. Men will claim ideas and cling to them no matter the evidence. The entire science community is extremely biased. They may have thrown out many an idea, at the same time never venturing to look at it again. It really is a shame to see so many people believe in science without question.
As pointed out by John Lennox, the evidence shows design and intelligence. How can the information encoded in DNA come into existence without any intelligent agent to provide the information needed to create life? I don't see how atheists can be so ignorant. The structure of DNA is so superior to any software we have today. So then how can you conclude that intelligent design is not present in creation???
Satan(deciever) must be mentioned in all this, because he blinded the minds of man to the glory of god.
"Light was born into the world and the world was made by the light, yet the world recognised him not" Herein is the problem...man is being mislead by the wicked one...And its gods word that reveals satan and christ through the father that puts an end to him and the power to overcome him..Christ overcame the world, start reading, researching and dwelling upon the word of god
@FlashmoreGash "The structure of DNA is so superior to any software we have today. So then how can you conclude that intelligent design is not present in creation???"
then please explain the existence down's syndrome, haemophilia, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, and all other diseases caused by genetic defects.
A brilliant man and a brilliant mind. Good old-fashioned logic seasoned with scientific credentials and an open mind. God bless you John Lennox and keep up the great work tearing down those evolutionary strongholds that are so fragile at the foundations.
I don't know how any atheist can argue something if they themselves believe their own mind came from mindless processes. How can they even know they are not simply speaking nonsense ? If the God revealed in the Bible is real then it makes perfect sense that there is a mind behind this universe. The scientific description of the universe does not rule out a God who created it at all, just be sensible and take history and the Bible seriously.
exodus 21: 20 “If a man beats his male or female slave with a club and the slave dies as a result, the owner must be punished. 21 But if the slave recovers within a day or two, then the owner shall not be punished, since the slave is his property.
@castelgandalf Complete misunderstanding causes your error. The Israelite weren't command and conquer nation. The only land they were to fight for was that of Israel, and once that was gained they were not instructed to conquer any neighboring lands. Slavery was much different, a person could become a slave willingly to pay a debt, or to ensure lodging and food. These were instructions for treating them fairly. Name anyone else that had written "slavery rights" 2k years ago.
@castelgandalf Continued....You and others problem with the text most of the times is the very simple mistake of looking at things from how we now look at a word or concept using our definitions. Can't be done for any work of antiquity..If a thousand years from now a person comes accost a book of the Simpsons and the only page they have left is the words"don't have a cow man"...Are they seriously going to think these are instruction for the human race to not have meat? Seriously..
1-i'll only conquer 1 house on your block, then stop once i gain that. OK?
2- a law allowing one person to beat another person who is his property is "slavery rights?"
3- the simpsons are not alleged to be divinely inspired. the concept of beating another person hasn't changed in any number of thousand of years. also, i thought god's law was perfect and eternal.
i think you are far too liberal in assigning charges of "misunderstanding"and "mistake" to others.
1- If gods behind you and you think you can take my house...try it. Maybe God will be with you. And if he's not. Maybe you'll end up in a pool of blood in the driveway....It's Gods choice.
2- You may not think thats not a "right" because you're thinking with your 21st cen brain again. But I can bet dollars to donuts the slaves appreciated the Israelite at least having a code of honor. Since all had slaves at the time, atheist included, it's still a case of the jews being way out front rights wise.
3- You seriously missed the point. Which you will because of your world view. Who said they thoguht it was divinly inspired? I said they found a book. And nothing remained but the words "don't have a cow man". How would archyologist know this wasnt a religious text if its found in a church. Point being which went so far over your head, that when people look at a work of antiquity, you have to use their definitions, not yours.
Up till 30 years ago, it was fine to strike children. Look at the horible shape the worlds dropped into since the last 30 years. People are rotting into decay fast enough to see it happen. Again, have to look at things from their world....not mine. God had a reason for being so strict. But you and I being Gentile were saved from all that back then, as well as today....Another reason to thank God.
But seriously. If these are some of your problems, it's going to take some reading on your part. You obviously haven't read the Bible. You've read a passage here, or a passage there, but you have no idea of it's timeline, who was involved in what, who said this or that. Its your misunderstanding that shows me you've never really read much of anything concerning our side. You really need to have a better understanding before you make these utterly useless arguments.
It is fallacious to argue that atheism is not the view that there is no god. it is simply the absence of belief in god. Please note: the term atheism comes from the Greek prefix a-, meaning “without,” and the Greek word theos, meaning “deity.” Here deity stands for God. Correct yourself.
his very first statement here is false. atheism is not the view that there is no god. it is simply the absence of belief in god.......great start Lennox!
no, my 5 year old lacks a belief in god simply because he has no concept of what, if anything, that term means. he does not however believe "god isn't there"- he has no opinion but lacks a belief in a god.
similarly; those lacking a belief in god can run the spectrum from strongly denying the existence to those having no opinion.
@mcmanustony Has your 5 year old ever been introduced to the concept of God? Do you think he/she if they lived in a world where the concept of God was non-existent would come to it themselves?
well we live in a village with 8 churches (gotta love that christian unity) so he has a concept of religion and he did come home from preschool with some frightening nonsense about a guy getting nailed to a tree couretsy of his friends whose parents are fundamentalists... He's been given answers to all his quesitions but has no detailed concept of god.
my feeling is that if there were a moratoruim on indoctrinating children religion would disappear for good in a couple of generations
@mcmanustony Well, if you're talking about the crucifixion, that is a historically documented fact. But I agree, I think it would be better if he didn't hear that at that age. I just wonder what would happen if he never heard, or if he heard much later, like when he was 25 years old.
religion depends for its survival on a steady supply of impressionable children. adult converts are rare- certainly too rare to sustain any major religion.
crucifixion is indeed documented- the crucifixion of jesus......not so much. eyewitnesses?
@M3PanoS I wonder if God was not a concept without it having been introduced, WHO would have introduced it? And if he was a concept without having been introduced into consciousness, who put him there?
@mcmanustony you stated "atheism is not the view that there is no god. it is simply the absence of belief in god" so you realise that God is real but yet you rebel?! That is pretty stupid of you :D
come to your own conclusions, and don't listen to either side of the argument wihout being skeptical...you may think it's nonsense and delusion but I will pray for you because i would want someone to do the same for me. The belief in God is both rewarding and extremely purposeful. And I have heard all the sociobiological/ev pysch arguments against it. but when you can fully believe there is something much more to it than a "survival mechanism". Good luck buddy. God bless.
Chuck1863: Eventually i came to the conclusion that the atheistic approach was a larger leap of faith in my reason and logic than christianity and a belief in God. I have begun my journey back to belief. itis on based not only in faith but mostly on logic and reason. Chuck1863: i though exactly like you for a while and I found that over time that particular belief was not compatible with life and happiness nor any of the virtues that define humanity. I found myself, like you, looking up videos of both sides of the argument.
The universe looks fine tuned for life and God looks fine tuned to have created this exact universe, so who fine tuned God? Or if God didn't need fine tuning then obviously something can look fine tuned without having been fine tuned, making God unnecessary.
