  • These birds nest on my property every spring, they seem to prefer aspen nearing there lifecycle or even mature dead standing aspen to nest in at least here, alas I missed them nesting this year and couldn't film them flying into there hole feeding there young.

  • We have those in our back yard. They are so beautiful. We also have red-headed and Harried wich I have on my video at Mrose13006. I am going to try to get a video of all hard to spot birds. Planning on getting Mama and baby Osprey's.

  • Ospreys! How cool. I filmed a few a couple years ago. They are in my first "Raptors" vid. Sure I'd love to watch your vid. I had a woodpecker in my yard that I couldn't ID. I'll post video soon. I love the Pileateds we have lots of them in the area but it's hard to film them.

Thanks for watching and the nice comment.:)

  • I hate the fact that this bird looks so much like an ivory woodpecker(convergent evo.). that has allowed all these false sightings.

  • Yeah, I here of lots of sightings around these parts but I'm sure it's the pileated being mis-identified.

  • Thats awsome! I filmed mine in my backyard in Hastings Mi., my 3 year old redheaded granddaughter spotted it . . said there was a bird in the tree with red hair just like hers! They are big, this one seemed larger than a crow. . . .check out my video, a had to peek around the corner of my house to get it.

  • What a cute story! I bet she was happy to see another pretty red-head.:)

Thanks for watching, this one was filmed in my backyard, south Alabama. I see them all the time, but rarel get close enough to get any good video. They are one of my favorite birds!

  • Wow! That's teriffic. I had the pleasure of seeing one yesterday. They're such a cool bird to see. I hope that I'm lucky enough to see more of them this spring! Cheers

  • Hi! These are my favorites of the woodpecker family. They are magnificent creatures and I film them when ever I see them.

Thanks for watching, cheers back at ya.:)

  • I live in west central wisconsin and ive actually seen one of these birds in a tree right on the grounds of my high school. They are very hard to sight since they normally remain out of sight from humans. I felt lucky to see one, its size is what amazed me, about as big as a crow. It was unique looking too. My guess since the tree had berries in it, was that it was getting food. It had a loud call too. Nice video footage of one, as i hear they are very hard to sight let alone film.

  • They're incredibly hard to film. I see them often, but getting a good shot with the camera is a different story! I feel lucky to have gotten this bit of footage. Thanks for watching.:) Happy new year!

  • nice I have one to in my yard i just called him woody lol my footage way shaky but i agree everyday i get to watch him is a joy! plus took my 3yrs to catch him on tape!

  • lol, they're hard to film! They are always so high in the trees. I love them. I see them fly through but they didn't nest here. Red Heads took over this year! Got vids of them coming.:)

    Thanks for watching!

  • Please visit my Youtube site and see the Pileated in "my yard." God Bless them. Just to lay eyes on one is joy to my heart.

  • Hi! Thanks for watching mine.:) I'll go check yours out now!

  • We put out a feeder for Pileateds every oct-march. It's a piece of wood about 20" long with two 1 1/2" holes bored through. We stuff the holes with peanut suet. We get to watch them up close. About 15 feet away from the window. Cool video.

  • I bet! Thanks for the advice. I put out the peanut butter suet, but it's in the little cages. I'll try a piece of wood like that and see if I can get them to come a bit closer. They are always so high in the tops when I spot them.

    Thanks for watching.:)

  • Nice job. They are one of my favorite birds, and I stuck a little footage of a couple up on my channel.

  • Thanks! I'll go watch your vid too.:) They're one of my favorites as well. Love them! I have new footage of more piliateds, will try to post soon.

    Thanks again for watching.:)

  • Beautiful bird! I only get to see these type of wood peckers way up in northern WI! I wish there were more...

  • They're very elusive birds too. One of my favorite species. We have lots in the area, sometimes I get lucky enough to spot them. Usually they're soooo high up, it's difficult to get good video though.

    Thanks for watching.:)

  • This brings back memories. I used to see Pileateds on a regular basis down in the local ravine, until the organization that manages the property cut down a large number of dead and dying trees due to safety concerns. Haven't seen one since; nor the Red-bellied that I saw on a regular basis. Quite sad really.

  • How sad, that's the problem. These birds are losing their habitats due to "progress". We have lots of old growth and dead trees here, probably why they like my yard, and, the reason the dead trees stay!

    Take care!:)

  • It is amazing you were able to film the bird that long. I have them but they seem to be very shy. Thank you for posting.

  • They're very difficult to film. I have more video of a pair of them coming soon. I was hoping they'd build a nesting site near.

Thanks for watching and nice comment.:)

  • I got those, too...but not on video---yet. I think at one time they were almost extinct--or thought to be.

  • Hi! I love these birds. I believe they were at one time threatened, but they've rebounded nicely. It was the Ivory Billed woodpecker that was considered extinct. But, they've been seen, alive and well here along the Gulf coast, they look very similar to the piliated too.

    Thanks for watching!

  • Gotta love the Pileateds...

  • Hi!

Yep, they're one of my favorites. We have alot of woodpeckers here, these are hard to get a good shot of. They scare off easily.

    Thanks for watching!

  • Nice video. I hope the bird found some tasty bugs to enjoy!

  • Thank you.

I have some video of one eating berries on another tree, I'll upload it also. This one looked as if it had found a buffet in this pine.

    Thanks for watching.
