You know people really need to get off this myth that French helped us "win" a war. History points out otherwise. The French were fighting a proxy war through the US against their old nemesis the Brits in the Atlantic.. But, let's discuss the "dooms day Normandy". So, on the contrary, America helped saved France's ass from a Nazi hold, bottom line. The French were ONLY interested in expansion and protection of Canadian colonies and the Brits were in their way via presence in North America.
I might agree that France's participation in the American Independence war was not innocent. However, France already lost Canada and the West bank of the Mississippi in 1763 (Paris treaty 1763) before their participation in the Independence war (1778). So, they were not protecting the Canadian colonies for they were not longer French colonies. I won't comment on the second world war for I have not studied this subject well.
