  • WOW im playing this in band and i absoloutly love it! jst that i like our playing better then this :p its soo different!

  • we have to have this song memorized by tomorrow, and can play it and my band teacher hasn't even taught it to us! I'm in grade 6.

  • I've liked baseball ever since Arnold Rothstein fixed the 1919 World Series.

  • Snowflakes effect for added fun.

  • verdad q tocas trompeta

  • Don't those clarinets sound just like waves on the shore? And then you can just hear the band go marching off down the beach...

  • @harmon1103

You're talking about the first part of the trio right? If so then I completely agree! I think this is one of sousa's more beautiful marches, up there with king cotton I think.

  • @BachnerTrpt who is the band playing all of these? I want to buy their CD!

  • That bass note on the 3rd bar of the trio. The G. It gives me goosebumps everytime. Incredible.

  • I think I was born too late. If this were 100 years ago I could go with my friends to Manhattan Beach Brooklyn, NY and hear Sousa's band play this march live. It must have been just amazing to hear it in person!

  • this reminds me of family guy for some reason.

  • 1:41-2:18 :DDD

  • my band teacher taught me this song!!!

  • this what my 7th grade band is playing i get to play bass drum !!!!!!!

  • @ilovebandpercussion My 8th grade band is playing a Sousa medley consisting of Semper Fidelis, this, and El Capitan. Sousa is awesome :)

  • @xXxXJWBXxXx that would make for an awesome concert. Marches are fun : P

  • Our music class is so awsome, We call this song "Jersay Shore" instead, but not in a insult way, IT IS AN AWSOME SONG ....

  • wynton marsalis uses this piece to contrast the sousa band and the new orleans jazz band in marsalis on music. It is brilliant, as is he.

  • I play snare in middle school band and we play this in festivals.

  • I like how sousa uses PP to FF and back to PP at the ending of the march!

  • Woww, very different from the marching band version that we play!

  • jejeje ive espend my afternoon looking for this march thats because last night i had a dream... i saw a band playing this march in a parade, i dont know what it means.

  • It means you will die in a marching band related accident soon, unless you watch this video at least a million times by this time next week (BTW I AM completely joking)

  • We're playing this in honor band...it's not too hard, except for the fast eighth notes that the clarinets have @ 1:09...I can't move my fingers fast enough so I gotta practice...

  • @AnimeGirl375 I'm in the exact same position you are. I've played clarinet for like 7 years and (would like to think) that I'm pretty good, but that part is just horrific for clarinets. I can barely do it.

  • @madpiratetommy I know, right? The first time we played it, we played it very slow. Then when the director showed us how fast it was SUPPOSED to be played, we were all just like "Wtf???" We practiced a lot, but by the final performance we ended up just winging it (playing some of it and just acting like we were playing the rest), haha. :P

  • I can clearly hear parts that were in the first and second volumes of my clarinet excercise books. Thanks

  • I'm playing this song this year representing S.I.S. school

  • played this in band last year but now were in harder songs!

  • I like this song. I play baritone =()

  • Dude same!

  • this was fun on clarinet (1st) it went up to the G way above the staff ... weeee!!!

  • Whoo i played this one the flute!

  • thank you so much for posting this. I'm auditioning for the sousa band on clarinet and i really needed to hear a professional band recording to get a feel of the song before i audition.

  • how old are the people who play in sousa? jw

  • thank you so much for the clear version...its helping me a lot on my audition tape for sousa!!!!

  • the tuba part is quite long but I still find this piece nice to play

  • I played this on the french horn

  • Woot

  • On this particular march if the clarinets are played in just the right way at the trio, to me at least, there's an illusion of a human voice created.

  • Thank you for the clear recordings of Sousa.

As a member of a community band playing trumpet for many years, I have played of them.

They are especially appropriate on July 4th.

  • sousa's marches are really unique;

normally they start out forte then the second strain is piano

  • I love the melody from 1:08 until 1:40

  • So if you love it, please take a look at the video I sent you which has a set of instructions in it. You will be happy if you follow them.

  • i've played the part from 1:40 till the end on bassoon.

  • I play this piece too on the trombone.

  • Ok,

    play it

    upload it

    i will rate it

  • I dont know the music anymore. I played it last year for marching.

  • Beauty in it's best!

  • Where I live it's been raining all day, listening to this piece made me happy : )

  • The merry-go-round effect solidifies Sousa's place as "America's composer"

  • We play this every year for our Veterens Day Parade, very beautiful song. go crimson tide marching band =]

  • my band teacher spend like alotta money on the set for the band...and we barely play it O_O
