play it and sing it however you want dude.. dont listen to all these people about "play it this way" or "make it your own" or "dont try and sound too much like the original artist".. music is music people.. a form of expersion.

i just had this discussion today, saying to someone, "why would i try and make it my own, when it is not my own. i only like and want to sing this song because of the original artists rendition."

fine self-accompaniment is very difficult not only to do, but to FIND being done. the key to me is knowing HOW to shorten the overall song. because unless a player is Leo Kottke, it's gonna be very easy to lose an audience's interest, when doing a self-accompanied version of any song. bridges, and even occasionaly verses, can very safely be left out of a song, to keep the self-accompaniment aspect optimally interesting.
