I use the FT817 with a Par 10/20/40 QRP Endfed and works really well, no complaints very good value for money, buy one you will not be disappointed. G1HQK
Great QRP contact. How do you think an 817 without add-ons would do with an EndFedz 10/20/40? I'm thinking of getting one and was cautious about only 5 watts and bad solar conditions. Plus, I'm a newbie to HF, so I don't know much about it past using a radio at Field Day.
what is the ssb output when connected to the power meter how many watts is it putting out according to the external power meter - i ask because on a standard 100w rig on ssb voice the average is probably only around 35 watts power transmitted not 100w unless you whistle etc so whats the power reading if the 817 i would have thought reality is that it is probably only talking 3 or 4 watts tnx.
This antenna is great - very stealthy and can be used in almost any situation - take it anywhere - string it in any configuration you like brilliant great vid.
I have the big brother to the 817, the 857D. Both are very good radios. I believe that they have a receiver that is just about as good as any of the bigger radios out there. That was a good contact to Cuba using only 5w. I use to do it on 10m years ago, but when you have a flux of over 200, you can do it on far less. With the higher noise on 40m that was a nice contact, nonetheless.
i have one of these 817nd. overall a very good radio, had lots of comments on having a good audio. only one downside is 5 watts max output, alough i have spoken from england to mexico on it using 2.5 watts into an atu and full length g5, alough obviously the skip was good that day, it performs very well on vhf anf uhf as well as hf. worth the money i paid for it and good being portable(works in my backpack on a biscuit tin antenna out of the top lol). i would def recommend it as a buy.
I am using a Par Electronics End Fed 40 dipole. It is about 66 feet long and is supported at each end at about 12 feet above the ground. It is working really well. Thank you for the interest

I'm thinking of getting the 10-20-40 EndFedz. What do you think of that model as compared to the regular 40?

@RIDDICKorigional Make one! Why buy a wire antenna, when plain old wire is so cheap?
Nice contact '3UK! I can't imagine being without my 817.

Can u please tell me do u use lsb blow 20m or usb??
Thanks any one.
tintin20001967 3 years ago
The change is at 9MHz which is a a common IF. For historical reasons, you use the sideband furthest from the IF, so LSB below 9MHz, and USB above.
However, newer modes like PSK always use USB.
