i never made a guitar pedal before but i know like how to read schematics and use wires and stuff from making a bunch of electronic stuff before....but whats a good easy to make pedal for me to make for a first noob trying?
Hmmm thinking about building one myself, I've never built a guitar pedal before but I'm great with computer hardware and soldering. What difficulty would you consider this GMD? What would be your favorite pedal that you've bought/built?
does anyone know how hard these are to make? i dont really have any wiring experience. i can use a soldering needle, but will i be able to understand the diagrams enough to read it?
GMD awesome viddy! The only thing I thought for sure you would test was the boost channel totally by itself without the OD. You did both at the same time, but never isolated the boost specifically. Either way, I'm gonna pick up one of these bad boys.
i thought the jack black thing was funny the first 17,00 times i heard it, but every toher comment is taking over the purpose of thie vid. if you look at the title, its does NOT say jack black impersonator. these are guitar pedal demo;s (good ones @ that). so enough with those comments please.!
I bought my BYOC OD II pre- assembled and I paid about $140 USD plus delivery. It costs about $40 extra to get it pre-assembled. Honestly I spent more time tweaking it than I did enjoying it. I very much prefer my Luther Drive or even my BBE Green Screamer for simplicity and tone.
Just my opinion. I tried to love my BYOC OD II for about 8 months and sold it on eBay.
@studio1087 yeah, they seemed just okay, i'm more of a boutique pedal guy myself, i'll spend a lot on a pedal for simplicity and overall tone. thanks for the reply! cheers.
I want one of these for my birthday. I don't know if I should get the MOSFET mod or not. I have a tube amp with plenty of tube drive and tone so I'm guessing I don't need it or it isn't needed. By the way, Jack Black is a hack, so overrated!
Also I have this OD-2 pedal (with Mosfet modification) which is a must have. Good for rock, blues, crunchy stuff but no metal or hi gain.
Note: This pedal is not singly an overdrive, it contains a clean BOOSTER as well! And a very good one. Just press the footswitch for a volume boost to get your ripping solo heard!
I build mine all by myself, it is not the easiest pedal to build without any solder practice so I would suggest to start with an easier pedal. Or buy a pre-build.
@ironmaiden: It's an OVERDRIVE. For metal or heavy sounds you have to use a DISTORTION pedal (in case you do not have a hi gain amplifier).
For the BYOC stuff look at the SHREDDER pedal. It's also a versatile pedal for 80's metal distortion (think Iron Maiden, Metallica, etc.). It's not very suitable for NuMetal but there are some modifications (check the BYOC forum/board). For insane metal sounds I use a self modded BOSS MT-2 (Diezel Mod) but most of the time I am using the BYOC Shredder.
When he kciks in the boost at around 4:00 is that purely the tone from the pedal or is that the tubes overdriving... cos that sounds epic! and i would like to but i have a fender superchamp xd with 6v6!?
Unless I'm mistaken, the boost section comes after the OD section, so that would imply to me that his amp is overdriving more than the OD stage of the pedal. Which isn't how I'd prefer it to be set up, but in this case it does sound great.
Doesn't matter now anyways... i went and got my self an absolute steal on an English Muff'n on eBay! Now that is by far the King of ALL OVERDRIVE pedals..... It so epic!!!!! best thing ever!!!!! Nothin can compete with it!
hey thanks for the reply! but i decided to go for the EHX English Muff'n instead! Its so bad ass! but a lil expensive, but has 2 12ay7 tubes in it! sounds amazing! i could do a good demo of it, as some on here dont really do it justice!
There's a mod for setting the boost before the od. You can wire it that way 'permanently' or put it on an on/on switch. You'd have to buy the switch and drill the enclosure yourself. Details on the byoc forum.

I built my own BYOC OD2 with a weakness that does not seem to be on your OD2 in the video or?
When switching to the left and the "silicon" clipping mode the volume drops substantially and it sounds like only about 60% of the volume in the "none" position.
Have you this "defect" or have you done any mods to help this up?
