  • It's definitely Jack Black. Look: at 5:02 at the top right corner you can see The Pick of Destiny!

  • whats the tune on the intro of this video gearmandude.

    i like it!

  • jeeeez lol is this jack fuckin black?!

  • holy cow its jack black

  • Where's your "Snake-skin" boots???

  • I bought a OD2 pedal and I would like to know if this demo is a MOSFET mod or regular kit.

    Thanks!

  • what was the 3rd pedal you showed, the purple one?

  • you sound like jack black

  • so this is the mosfet mod??

  • This guy sounds a little like jack black! Funny how that does look like the pic of destiny too. Hmmmm

  • BYOC.....OD.....TWO!

  • sounds like shit ....like all the gearmandude demos

  • 1:11 The Pick of Destiny!

  • Pause 1:30 Is that the pick of destiny nest to the pedalboard?

  • @Zepoch1 Either that or the James Hetfield signature pick with the spider face on it...

  • i never made a guitar pedal before but i know like how to read schematics and use wires and stuff from making a bunch of electronic stuff before....but whats a good easy to make pedal for me to make for a first noob trying?

  • YEAH Bullet cable!! :D

  • Its christen slater!

  • @supermike38 I don't get the Jack Black references at all. First time I heard him, last week, I heard Christian Slater too.

  • Just built this pedal, and now all my other ODs sound like crap. It is insane.

  • can you say super awesome please? :)

  • Hmmm thinking about building one myself, I've never built a guitar pedal before but I'm great with computer hardware and soldering. What difficulty would you consider this GMD? What would be your favorite pedal that you've bought/built?

  • you sound like jack black

  • how do we know its not Jack Black?

  • Wow!!!! =) where i can buy that kit??? can you post me the link? thanks man =)

  • That would be a siliCON boost. Not a siliCONE boost, which is a COMPLETELY different thing. :)

    Nice demo!

  • Coil Kord - awesome

  • GMD, how would you compare the Rothwell Hellbender next to the BYOC OD2? would it get that similar tone?

  • Here we go with the BYOC...

    OD...

    Two...

    Haha

    Great demo dude!

  • Here we go with the BYOC...OD...Two...

    Great demo dude!

  • does anyone know how hard these are to make? i dont really have any wiring experience. i can use a soldering needle, but will i be able to understand the diagrams enough to read it?

  • hey! have you tried making any GGG (general guitar gagets) pedals?

  • listen to an interview with jack black then watch one of these videos side by side, there is a difference in their voices!

  • Wow, 3:11 is the sound!

  • hello eric whorton

  • hi jack black

  • DUDE THAT IS SO FUCKING JACK BLACK!!!!!

  • @RamboBond296 too bad it's not.

  • Comment removed

  • @RamboBond296 yeah i know haah

  • @RT101894 he even talks like him to

  • Great demo. I'm going to build one of these.

  • gearman dude is jack black

    whoah

  • Jack Black?

  • how did u actually make that?

  • gearmandude how does this compare to the rockett pedals?

  • GMD awesome viddy! The only thing I thought for sure you would test was the boost channel totally by itself without the OD. You did both at the same time, but never isolated the boost specifically. Either way, I'm gonna pick up one of these bad boys.

  • where you got the metal box?

  • @nirson123 It comes in the kit. Google will not bring you any harm. LOL

  • Just a question, why use a bass amp for a guitar? Wouldn't the amp get damaged?

  • @b44styreraug

    "EL34 based amplifier"

    NOT

    "EL34 bass amplifier"

  • @b44styreraug

One of the classic guitar amplifiers, the Fender Bassman, was originally designed for bassists.

  • the comments on the videos of germanndude are always the same:

    germandude sounds like jack black...

now i read: Gearmanndude does not sound like Jack Black.

Jack Black is TRYING to sound like Gearmanndude.

    lol ^^

  • you sound like jack black

  • your tele is sweet!

  • This is my first build...

    And I screwed it up.

People, if you want to build this pedal- DO NOT RUSH THE BUILDING!

  • i thought the jack black thing was funny the first 17,00 times i heard it, but every toher comment is taking over the purpose of thie vid. if you look at the title, its does NOT say jack black impersonator. these are guitar pedal demo;s (good ones @ that). so enough with those comments please.!

  • How long do you think it would take to make this one?

  • it is noisy when it's bypassed?

  • Comment removed

  • You sound like jack black, lol.

  • Want One. My next project! Great demo, great sound, funny dude

  • hey where's the MKII bender clone demo?

  • Just wonderin', is the boost section before or after the other parts of the circuit? or: does the boost boost volume or just gain?

  • I've been considering building this one...the considering is over.

  • could you show the difference between an overdrive 2 with the burr brown opamp and the JRC opamp?

  • wow! know that's an overdrive!

  • gearmandude is Jack Black im convinced

  • Yes me to

  • @mlweidl

    Actually he's Dale Gribble.

  • Gearmanndude does not sound like Jack Black.

Jack Black is TRYING to sound like Gearmanndude.

I just ordered this pedal because of this video.

The guys at BYOC owe Gearmanndude a couple beers....or some toe socks. Either way; they owe GMD.

Thanks again for your fine videos Gearmanndude.

  • No they owe him a pair of snake skin boots!

But man that pedal is just awesome!

  • @studio1087 hey how much was this one? also i agree, he doesn't sound like Jack Black, he sounds like Gearmanndude, cause he's Gearmanndude.

  • @wickedwizardofspeed

I bought my BYOC OD II pre- assembled and I paid about $140 USD plus delivery. It costs about $40 extra to get it pre-assembled. Honestly I spent more time tweaking it than I did enjoying it. I very much prefer my Luther Drive or even my BBE Green Screamer for simplicity and tone.

Just my opinion. I tried to love my BYOC OD II for about 8 months and sold it on eBay.

  • @studio1087 yeah, they seemed just okay, i'm more of a boutique pedal guy myself, i'll spend a lot on a pedal for simplicity and overall tone. thanks for the reply! cheers.

  • lel its jack black

  • sounds good

  • Dude u totally sound like jack black. Ps thanks for the link

  • Gearmann, would you recommend this is a light gain od pedal over the Barber LTD?

  • ne1 else think he sounds like jack black?

  • cool

  • without the MOSFET conversion does this give a good tube sound as well as an almost fuzz sound?

  • kcalb kcaj ekil sdnuos

  • I want one of these for my birthday. I don't know if I should get the MOSFET mod or not. I have a tube amp with plenty of tube drive and tone so I'm guessing I don't need it or it isn't needed. By the way, Jack Black is a hack, so overrated!

  • Wow thanks for great vids jack black..sounds like a great OD pedal that I might just be buying.

  • is this the straight OD2 or with the mosfet mod? any change making a comparison with the Mad Prof Little Green Wonder?

  • any chance of a comparison video of this and the Mad Professor Little Green Wonder?

  • Gearman Quote (or is it Jack Black?): 'The BYOC OD2 classic overdrive. Go get one or build one and it will QUIT YOUR WINING!' lol

  • Also I have this OD-2 pedal (with Mosfet modification) which is a must have. Good for rock, blues, crunchy stuff but no metal or hi gain.

Note: This pedal is not singly an overdrive, it contains a clean BOOSTER as well! And a very good one. Just press the footswitch for a volume boost to get your ripping solo heard!

I build mine all by myself, it is not the easiest pedal to build without any solder practice so I would suggest to start with an easier pedal. Or buy a pre-build.

  • so, can the boost be used without the overdrive side on?

  • @ironmaiden: It's an OVERDRIVE. For metal or heavy sounds you have to use a DISTORTION pedal (in case you do not have a hi gain amplifier).

For the BYOC stuff look at the SHREDDER pedal. It's also a versatile pedal for 80's metal distortion (think Iron Maiden, Metallica, etc.). It's not very suitable for NuMetal but there are some modifications (check the BYOC forum/board). For insane metal sounds I use a self modded BOSS MT-2 (Diezel Mod) but most of the time I am using the BYOC Shredder.

  • im watchin this like "man he sounds like jack black". scroll down, "oh look, everyone else thinks so too" haha

  • mmmmm tasty tone. im gonna look into one of these

  • why does this guy sound like jack black?

  • would this be good for playing metal?

  • no not really, this seems more for blues rock

  • I agree. He sounds just like Jack Black. It's not only his voice, but his inflection too. He plays better, though.

  • I hope you don't look like Jack Black.

  • he sounds exactly like jack black. even words things the same way. too funny.

  • i actually thought that aswell

  • omg he sounds just like jack white

  • i think he sounds like jack BLACK haha and im serious

  • OMG JACK BLACK xD ROFL LMAO

  • yeah i now .. he sounds just like jack black

  • Rofl, you sound like Jack Black.

  • Nice! Which would you pick up first, that or the Klon?

  • Yo, Nick! LOL!!!

Mr. GearManDude... is the pedal the regular OD2, or is it the OD2 with the mosfet mod?

  • This os far more versatile than a Klon. BTW, guitar world had a competition between the Klon and the Maxon OD820...Maxon won. Just to let you know ;)

  • When he kciks in the boost at around 4:00 is that purely the tone from the pedal or is that the tubes overdriving... cos that sounds epic! and i would like to but i have a fender superchamp xd with 6v6!?

  • I'm wondering the same thing.

Unless I'm mistaken, the boost section comes after the OD section, so that would imply to me that his amp is overdriving more than the OD stage of the pedal. Which isn't how I'd prefer it to be set up, but in this case it does sound great.

  • Doesn't matter now anyways... i went and got my self an absolute steal on an English Muff'n on eBay! Now that is by far the King of ALL OVERDRIVE pedals..... It so epic!!!!! best thing ever!!!!! Nothin can compete with it!

  • watch BK Butlers Tube Driver :) Those things are sick too!

  • hey thanks for the reply! but i decided to go for the EHX English Muff'n instead! Its so bad ass! but a lil expensive, but has 2 12ay7 tubes in it! sounds amazing! i could do a good demo of it, as some on here dont really do it justice!

  • you should, and if you do, please send me the video!!! I'd like to see the pedal you're so happy with :)

  • There's a mod for setting the boost before the od. You can wire it that way 'permanently' or put it on an on/on switch. You'd have to buy the switch and drill the enclosure yourself. Details on the byoc forum.

  • Yes i did :) As a matter of fact my PCB did not have the shortcut so I did not have to fix anything. But thanks for the response anyway.

I have heard that the difference in voltage drop over different diodes will cause this effect but as the volume drop lacks in this video I get confused.

Please germandude, tell the secret ;)

  • Nice video:

I built my own BYOC OD2 with a weakness that does not seem to be on your OD2 in the video or?

When switching to the left and the "silicon" clipping mode the volume drops substantially and it sounds like only about 60% of the volume in the "none" position.

Have you this "defect" or have you done any mods to help this up?

  • Did you remember to fix the error in the pcb?

  • This pedal is great! If you look on the byoc website and find the pdf instructions it will show you all of the different sounds you can put into it.

  • this guy does really good gear reviews.. plus, the boots are great.

  • This guy sounds like fuckin jack black!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I'm sorry, I didn't realize there was a voice on this video I was overcome by the power of this rocking pedal. this thing is KILLER

  • I agree

  • You should do some delay shootouts with like the deeelay and stuff

  • GMD....PUT THIS IN A SHOOTOUT WITH A MAXON OD 9/808 AND A IBANEZ TS9/808......NO MODS!!!!

    this is awesome.

  • I'd rather see this in a shootout with a fulldrive 2 mosfet.

  • yeah me too.. I have the fulltone fulldrive2, but I might try this if the kits right. can never have enough drives...lol

  • Dude! This rawks!!! I'd email you a beer for this excellent vid but that technology doesn't exist yet. Until that day...

  • wow. Thanks GMD! Awesome demo! You are doing a great service to pedal whores everywhere (and a disservice to my wallet!) ROCK ON!

  • You sound like Vic from Red vs Blue.

An idea of my day: alternate between pedal demos and Halo Machinama. I am a nerd.

Great demo, as always. Thanks, GMD.

  • You should definitely put this in a shoot out with a tube screamer, KOT, OCD, Full Drive and maybe some others.

  • I love my BYOC!

  • whats song at start?

  • Blend Down and Jam by Albert Collins

  • My god...amazing
