i'm a big tpath fan, and the last couple of albums, last dj and echo, are just not there...i miss stan's drumming and feel glad that i got to see the almost the original line up.
i think it's odd that tp talks about being such an artist for artist sake, especially when dealing with roger mcgwnn but then says, no one cares about how a record is made it's how it sounds, i.e. if it sells...
i disagree big time...Echo is a fantastic album. Loaded with great riffs and melodies. Its a great album thats probably his most underrated. One his my most played albums of his besides wildflowers.
@SpreadHopeLikeFire5 So freakin true... I love Echo, it's a perfect example of how Petty puts emotion into his music. The story behind some songs is sad
@MrGreatfullydead At first, I didn't like The Last DJ and Echo, but they really do grow on you, especially if you know the true anger Petty felt when making most songs on the last dj, and the sadness and pain he felt while making Echo
I think Stan and Steve both fit in with the Heartbreakers but they were right for their time. Stan fitted perfectly for the 70's and 80's era because it was more edgey, thats why he left in the 90s because the music became more mellow. Steve fits in great for what the band is now, a more mellow band. If you were to flip the two drummers, it would not be the same at all, they both have two very different styles.
well true but you could argue it was good Stan was being true to himself ... but yeah his attitude comes off as a bit rude around 1:40. Do you know if his career kept going after the HB? All in all I love Steve's work in the HB so it's cool he came in.
Look I love TPATH as they are the band I love and cherish the most out of any but to say he should be lucky to have a job? You're out of your damn mind if you think is amazing work on Dam the Torpedoes, Hard Promises, Long After Dark, etc is easily replaceable. Hell if anything, you better be thanking Benmont for creating the Heartbreakers as he was the one to get everyone together, Tom just snatched them all up. It was a band effort making those albums and not just Tom
oh grow up stan

On The Damn the Torpedos dvd Ron says "We always had hoped that me and Stan could play together again, which could happen I guess".

at least they had the decency to let Stan talk about his departure in his own words...

anybody else notice there's an occasional number in Sequence missing here throughout?
like every 3 or 4 parts, suddenly #22 isn't to be found. Lol! what's up with that?

Stan comes off like a cool guy here.
Of all the producers, Rick Rubin got the best sound out of the Heartbreakers.

Such great "open space" drumming by Stan Lynch, on the final song Mary Jane´s last dance..

Interesting version of "Only A Broken Heart" towards the beginning. The album version doesn't include drums.
