  • OMG!!!! I love that!! I listen to it like every day!!

  • the ALLMAN Brothers Band have a 40 minute instrumental Jam on this song by Donovan

  • @phallystorm "Eat A Peach" album, song is officially titled "Mountain Jam". It was performed live @ at "The Fillmore East" but they couldn't put it on that album because it was too long,,,,,,33:40 minutes and if you still have the vinyl LP it took up the entire second side......My favorite instrumental.........

  • luv it...

  • great mash up! what a large back garden you have! much fun, i grow banana plants also, but i have NO mountains in my back garden!lol Nikx

  • PRADEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.

  • this is a cool video, you must have been a there...those were great times...

  • @1jtv

If it was so great why do you talk in the past tense? Be there or be nowhere (NOW HERE)

  • Donovan doesn't get near enough recognition. Also, you just had to be there. Frank Sinatra was beyond huge in his day.But now?

  • Hey, Frank is still well know but he's been gone for over 10 years. Believe me when I tell you; he was talked about alot even after he died. He was popular music but Donovan is different. Like Miles Davis, he was a commercial or what people call a seel out artist. I love Chicago but they were a marketer's dream. Donovan and Miles were expressive artists. This means they played what they felt and not what the masses wanted. Their music gets better and more followers as the years progress.

  • A lot of people would disagree with you there. Donovan was as commercial as Sinatra.

  • omg haha! i saw this on the old top of the pops the other day! haha very hippy style! my dad said he doesn't know any other lyrics except from the mountains...but i like it :) and now i am going to kill him by learning how to play it on my acoustic guitar haha!

  • coolage

  • hey guys. the song is about a snail climbing up and down the garden gate.there is a mountain when he is at the bottom going up and no mountain when he climbs back down. he wrote the song to his kid. cats meow.

  • That was funny! Thanks!

  • The guy was high when he wrote this song so thats why it's so messed up. But it's still good =D

  • BEST SONG EVER

  • so is there a frickin' mountain or not? Make up your mind, Dpnovan

  • It's sequential. First there is, then there isn't, then there is. Didn't you pay attention? ;-)

  • Many things don't make sense. That's neither here nor there.

I rather enjoyed the song. To me, that's what matters.

  • only a few words for this song

    ITS GOTTA HAVE MORE COWBELL

  • Okay, I guess on the surface it is a weird song that doesn't make sense. But, what about the stages of enlightenment? At first a mountain is just a mountain, then at a deeper stage of reason/spirituality a mountain is a mysterious quandry. Why is it there? What purpose does it serve? Does everything serve a purpose or is it just a mountain? Then with a new reality and simple clarity one realizes a mountain is just a mountain. Everyone trying to transform from caterpillar to the butterfly within.

  • Or he could just possibly be THE worst singer/song writer ever!

  • But of course, he isn't. So your hypothesis goes down the abyss of so many other failed hypotheses in history.

  • Leigh: the thing is, I think he was a GREAT singer/songwriter, so your point is mute. You're quite simply wrong. You'll just have to accept it.

  • Well I'm awfully sorry but your opinion is also falling on deaf ears. It seems we will have to agree to disagree.

  • And he's a great inspirator too;...

would you please listen to "Mountain jam"(theme from 'first there was a mountain') from the double album 'Eat a peach' by The Allman Brothers Band, great double lead guitar collaboration by Duane Allman/Dicky Betts on side 3 and 4 of that vinylalbum. Great masterpiecealbum from 1970! I broke my fingers practicing that on guitar.

  • I don't know but he may be talking about the obstacles that people go through in life. The obstacle is like a mountain until we work our way through it, then the mountain is gone. Then that repeats over and over again for most people.

  • Weird? Try decipering those of "Epistle to Dippy"! It's just a product of the times; a kind of pseudo-mystical stream-of-consciousness-while-high style/fad. These are actually rather "normal"; a typical Jamaica-style song with similarly-styled lyrics - slightly "cryptic" in but pleasantly suggestive - a sort of lyrical "Impressionism". So enjoy the song; it's very happy and it "swings" nicely! :)

  • i heard this song on the toyota rav 4 commercial

  • Fun video. I'd love for Gary to run loose on my lawn; he's so cute.

  • cock verjan
