The Red Army was probably indeed the single most powerful conventional ground force in the world and led by many brilliant military thinkers who pioneered revolutionary concepts in modern military science and art. Its contributions to history, particularly in WW2, should always be remembered.

There was never an army more effective in battle than the Wehrmacht. Fortunately the Red Army had vast resources of men and weapons, that's what saved them. In fact, the Red Army had in some area's of operational thinking actually surpassed the Wherhmacht of '41. The leaders of the Soviet Army in 1945 were also largely the same as those in 1943.

The Soviets also go very large amounts of locomotives, uniforms, boots, beef, steel, aircraft fuel and crude oil. Lend-Lease made victory possible for the Soviets on the Eastern Front.

Actually it delivered various amounts of grain, not military weapons (which barely any came through), this is proved by the USSR' slow, very long victory.
The grain was all that came through, so they did provide them with food.
Oil came from Finland which, although not defeated, had to submit to the USSR as they had more troops.

The German Air Force took about 80% of its losses on the war on the Western front against the British and the Americans.

After Stalingrad the game was over to the Germans, way before most of the allied bombings. Remove Lend Lease and the Russians are slowed down significantly. Germany had already had its army halted and the back broken, but going on the offensive becomes more difficult. Also do not forget that the war in Asia was won mainly by the US with some considerable help from the Chinese, British and Soviet.
@moonshot926 The US contribution was decisive to defeat the japanese, that's undeniable. But saying that lend and lease was a decisive factor in Soviet victory it's a very arriesgate assumption. Maybe it made the victory faster to the Soviets, but a German victory after Stalingrad was impossible. All they could do was at least gain time to make peace with the western allies and take the terms of a conditional surrender, thus persuading Stalin to not invade Germany.

I served in the Polish army, which still uses a lot of equipment (soviet design but manufactured in poland), and tho this stuff is outdated by now, in its age it was the finest military equipment in the world, if the 3rd WW would start in 60's-70's NATO would have a lot of trouble...
During my time in the army, i used an AKMS Rifle (a modified AK47) which was produced in 1967, and still was in such good shape, i got 5/5 in accuracy trainings in the shooting range :) , i miss my rifle :D

Furthermore, the entrance of the USA into the war in Europe took a great deal of pressure off the Red Army and made it much easier for them to reach Berlin. General Eisenhower decided to allow the Russians to take Berlin and avoid US casualties, otherwise his troops would have been waiting to greet the Soviets when they got there. Let's not be too smug about the Red Army, they were no tougher than the Germans or the Americans.

@chezonereds Dude, US recaptured the Philippines near the end of 1944. Iwo Jima and Okinawa were Japanese. You need to recheck your history. Also, having different, but Allied, troops fighting in Berlin full of German soldiers is frustrating. Furthermore, Berlin was much closer to the Eastern Front. The Western Allied had more important task of taking key industrial cities locate near the Rhine and link with their troops fighting up Italy.

Hilter had to send twenty of his reserve divisions, meant for Kursk, to Italy. It was not until 1944 that USAAF bombers were making strong impact on the German industrial capability. The equipments were a bit too under develop but did help a bit. The most important things were food, uniforms, and trucks.
The "Great Red Army" was nearly overrun by the Germans and would have been defeated if the USA had not sent them slightly more than 12 billion U. S.dollars worth of military supplies. 12 billion is still alot of money, but in the '40s it was an ENORMOUS sum. The Soviets received 29,000 aircraft, 46,000 vehicles of every description and everything imaginable from field rations, ammunition, uniforms, boots and other supplies right down to cigarettes and chewing gum.

The class German tactic was to send Me-109 against the escort fighters while the Bw-109 can sneak pass and attack the bombers. They can't avoid the Allied fighters. The American develop a wide fighter protection coat around their bombers giving little chance of German trying sneak through without engaging them.

There was never an army more effective in battle than the Wehrmacht. Fortunately the Red Army had vast resources of men and weapons, that's what saved them. And in the end of WW2 they finally produced even some brilliant leaders. (Just to get things right, let's not delude ourselves.)

@Panakeje :sigh: No, no it wasn't. The German Wherhmacht at its height (early-1941) would be thoroughly thrashed by the Soviet Army at its height (mid-1945). In fact, the Red Army had in some area's of operational thinking actually surpassed the Wherhmacht of '41. The Germans never, for instance, managed to get an entire tank army across an otherwise impassable mountain range via ropes-and-pulley. The leaders of the Soviet Army in 1945 were also largely the same as those in 1943.

@HantaFuta The Soviets got 19% of their combat aircraft, 12% of their tanks and 80% of their trucks from Lend-Lease. The Soviets also go very large amounts of locomotives, uniforms, boots, beef, steel, aircraft fuel and crude oil. Lend-Lease made victory possible for the Soviets on the Eastern Front.

Actually it delivered various amounts of grain, not military weapons (which barely any came through), this is proved by the USSR' slow, very long victory.
The grain was all that came through, so they did provide them with food.
Oil came from Finland which, although not defeated, had to submit to the USSR as they had more troops.

@HantaFuta Before D-Day the Western Allies bombed Germany for 2 years straight. German industry was crippled from the allied bombing and could not produce nearly what was estimated. The German Air Force took about 80% of its losses on the war on the Western front against the British and the Americans.

After Stalingrad the game was over to the Germans, way before most of the allied bombings. Western tanks were mostly unsuitable to eastern front conditions, and proved much less popular with Soviet tank crews.

@apocalypticmadman I agree. The Eastern Front was a meat grinder for the German Army. BUT,the Red Army had great mobilty from 1943-1945 because it was being moved on western equitment. Remove Lend Lease and the Russians are slowed down significantly. Germany had already had its army halted and the back broken, but going on the offensive becomes more difficult. Also do not forget that the war in Asia was won mainly by the US with some considerable help from the Chinese, British and Soviet.

@moonshot926 The US contribution was decisive to defeat the japanese, that's undeniable. But saying that lend and lease was a decisive factor in Soviet victory it's a very arriesgate assumption. Maybe it made the victory faster to the Soviets, but a German victory after Stalingrad was impossible. All they could do was at least gain time to make peace with the western allies and take the terms of a conditional surrender, thus persuading Stalin to not invade Germany.

I served in the Polish army, which still uses a lot of equipment (soviet design but manufactured in poland), and tho this stuff is outdated by now, in its age it was the finest military equipment in the world, if the 3rd WW would start in 60's-70's NATO would have a lot of trouble...
During my time in the army, i used an AKMS Rifle (a modified AK47) which was produced in 1967, and still was in such good shape, i got 5/5 in accuracy trainings in the shooting range :) , i miss my rifle :D

None of these reached the USSR. Only about 2%, Stalin's proxy-states (and Yugoslavia) was what gave them so much time and supplies.

Furthermore, the entrance of the USA into the war in Europe took a great deal of pressure off the Red Army and made it much easier for them to reach Berlin. General Eisenhower decided to allow the Russians to take Berlin and avoid US casualties, otherwise his troops would have been waiting to greet the Soviets when they got there. Let's not be too smug about the Red Army, they were no tougher than the Germans or the Americans.

And furthermore, the supplies that USA gave to USSR was wasted, in fact, they never liked them when they tested it in real battle, Thompsons were not adequate for their environment and Sherman's werent good.The majority of the funding for USSR came from large diamond mining and oil.Thats also the reason why there were alot of deaths due to mass labor(which was strangely a good move by Stalin)

@chezonereds Dude, US recaptured the Philippines near the end of 1944. Iwo Jima and Okinawa were Japanese. You need to recheck your history. Also, having different, but Allied, troops fighting in Berlin full of German soldiers is frustrating. Furthermore, Berlin was much closer to the Eastern Front. The Western Allied had more important task of taking key industrial cities locate near the Rhine and link with their troops fighting up Italy.

I dont know where you are from, but we, in Holland, know where the real power and strength came from in the time of world war 2. Most of our, including mine, grandfathers and mothers will tell you about the stories and fear of the Russians and East Europeans. and these stories don't come from hyped up international news broadcasting propaganda or internet videos.....

@SpeedyNeutrino43 Not quite. The German had already cut their resources to North Africa. It was not until 1943 US tactically help the Soviet Union. Hilter had to send twenty of his reserve divisions, meant for Kursk, to Italy. It was not until 1944 that USAAF bombers were making strong impact on the German industrial capability. The equipments were a bit too under develop but did help a bit. The most important things were food, uniforms, and trucks.

The "Great Red Army" was nearly overrun by the Germans and would have been defeated if the USA had not sent them slightly more than 12 billion U. S.dollars worth of military supplies. 12 billion is still alot of money, but in the '40s it was an ENORMOUS sum. The Soviets received 29,000 aircraft, 46,000 vehicles of every description and everything imaginable from field rations, ammunition, uniforms, boots and other supplies right down to cigarettes and chewing gum.

@SpeedyNeutrino43 more than 90% of Soviet planes in ww2 were SOVIET MADE, and more than 92% of Soviet Tanks were also SOVIET-MADE.
Also, in 1944 the Luftwaffe officially ordered its pilots to AVOID anu confronation with the Soviet Yak-3 Fighter plane at heights bellow 5000 m. The Luftwaffe NEVER issued such orders for the Spitfires and Mustangs, which means the German feared Soviet planes MORE than they feared US -British ones, which means Soviets had QUALITY as well as quantity on their side

@ComradeFlorian31 German never order their pilots to entirely avoid US-British fighters? Yeah, it can hard to do that when they are targeting American/British bomber squadrons. The class German tactic was to send Me-109 against the escort fighters while the Bw-109 can sneak pass and attack the bombers. They can't avoid the Allied fighters. The American develop a wide fighter protection coat around their bombers giving little chance of German trying sneak through without engaging them.

@JNAsoldier Lol, you're missing the point completely. The Third Reich was a part of German history, a terrible part, that they let go. Life improved dramatically in Germany after Hitler took over, but he also killed millions of people, as did Stalin. Germany realizes this and do not admire him as many do Stalin. I don't think you're understanding what I'm saying. The German Nazi's did terrible things. But, so did Stalin. One is championed as a great leader, one is not.
