This guy needs to understand... THEY ARE PIPES!!! they can not think, they can not comprehend tides or water. In one of his other exhibits he talks about them being able to REPRODUCE!?! The only way one of these can be made, is if somebody makes one... Pipes can not have sex, or be asexual... they are NOT LIVING!

The FAA ( for exsample ) requires that aircraft tires be made entirely out of 100% natural rubber, for it's superior heat absorbsion over synthetic rubber. And, all auto tires are required to be at least 33% natural
there is only one con with this: It is less efficient than the wheel. The advantage of this design is the ability to traverse over highly irregular surfaces. It's not an ingenious design as people before Jansen have employed the same concept for robots. This concept is much too linear and difficult to employ on a highly irregular surface.
The algorithm(if thats how you spell it :s)is the key part, the fact that is another one other than the wheel, its always good to keep your options open

The paperclip was voted best invention of the 20th century. Simple as a concept yes, but just few have the imagenation to come up with idea's like this, it that sense it's not so simple.
well first this question needs to be asked - Where would we need to use this idea? The wheel satisfies a lot of the problems involved with traversing rough terrain anyway. If Jansens concept is best suited to rough terrain. In my opinion the only real reason why nature didn't use wheels in it's design is probably because a pivotal shaft-based axis just hasn't been biologically possible (yet).
after u put some kinetic power into the sculpture it keeps moving until it stops alone..... every movement of the "thing" "uses" some of the kinetic power that has been put into it..... it just stops alone..... if it wouldnt, then it would be something called perpetum mobile.....
They rely on kinetic energy from beach winds. As long as the wind blows, they can move. It's something like, as long as you eat, you'll continue living.
He said something about computers and a brain kinda deal? thats how it can understand the tides?

Part of the design is how light it is. Too much weight and it wouldn't work.

Until then, it's just art.
Why don't we leave it at that instead of creating something that could turn itself into a new Manhattan Project?
