  • so much better than that hack Bennett

  • What a talentuous artist. I'll love Scott til' I die

  • Walker is up there with Sinatra and Orbison as the best voices in popular music over the last century. Masculine yet tender, melancholic and haunting.

  • My name isn't Joanna, but he could sing this to me anytime!

  • "This song is excellent because you can feel his emotion and see it in his body language

  • mi nombre es Joanna xD / my name is Joanna

escuché la canción en la película "The Box"/ I heard the song in the movie "the box"

  • Extraordinary

  • When Joanna Lumley!

  • jejeje, yes!!

  • My name is Joanna :D

  • How come I've never heard this till "The Box?" Makes you wonder what else is in the vault awaiting a fortuitous encounter with the ear.

  • LIVE!!!!!!

  • I just went and bought this on iTunes.

  • I just heard this for the first time in the film, "The Box". It's beautiful stuff.

  • The four Scott albums from the late sixties are, for my money, the best albums in the world. Amazing: there's nothing else like them. I sing these songs often. Sorry to be cheap, but it's the finest walking-home-drunk music I know.

  • My Dad played this to me, it's my name and when he died 22 years ago the pain is as raw, I can't play this without crying my eyes out! I love Scott, his voice is amazing! x

  • Extraordinary voice, emotionnal lyrics and music. A real masterpiece. Thanks Mr. Walker.

  • "She loves me, and once again...Paris..." --how extraordinarily beautiful. Breathtaking artistry, pure and simple.

  • fuck this is amazing, laminatedcat, you are now officially my youtube hero

  • I didn't realise there was a movie called Joanna is that true? it's just what I've gathered from the comments!

  • had sinatra or eddie fischer lived- here is what they might have done with euro pop.

the perfect antidote to hendrix, dylan and joplin.... hollywoods/english revenge on those at the barricades. little wonder that this kind of kitsch drove scott to the extremes he was to attain: to have survived this is to have known true madness.

  • Fell in love with this song when I heard it in the movie Joanna in 1968. It was my favorite song from the movie and I was very disappointed that it wasn't on the album soundtrack. Really happy that you posted this. Thanks for the memories.

  • How cool! I just discovered Scott Walker!

  • this song is so beautiful. puts me in a daze every time. gotta be careful driving to this tune heh

  • Happy birthday Scott, and many more. Let me keep drowning in your wonderful, dark chocolate voice. What a way to go!!!

  • What the hell is the name of the SW song at the beginning of the Charles Bronson film? (biographical of the British criminal, not the actor with the same name)...PLEASE!

  • @vunderground1 - the electrician

  • @vunderground1

"The Electrician" by the Walker Bros.

  • Haunting song, lovely voice.

  • Rest in peace Jack Segal--a fine songwriter and a very sweet man. Among his other songs were "Scarlet Ribbons" and "Laughing Boy," to say nothing of "Where You At?"

  • if i may humbly note, scott walker has an incredible understanding of music, his vocal capabilities, and how he could push his gift, he cud have jst sang middle of the road stuff and made a lot of money, but he chose to investigate himself and the genre, we will thank him more as time goes on...

  • What a wonderful, perceptive comment. As a Scott Walker fan, I thank you.

  • This dude is badass!!

  • Comment removed

  • do you ever had a head ?

  • Neigh

  • "There's Joanna Lumley"...

  • just takes my breath away

  • my psych teacher sings this really well

  • You mean recites this very well don't you?

  • i love the emotional quality of his earlier stuff, but the third album is still my fav from that era. PS pep should be clicking spam on november199

  • I wish I was Scott Walker.

  • is this the guy who sang this song in the 1968 movie "Joanna" starring Donald Sutherland and the mother of Bijou Phillips?

  • yes and I wish they would put the film on you tube

  • I had the barefaced cheek to sing this 40 years ago--What a truly earthstopping voice Scott has--nothing less than a truly stunning talent.

  • Oh my effing god!

What a lucky gene pool he came from.......and he has pipes of gold too.

  • Scott Walker just has that ability to stop everyone in the room from talking and just find a place on the wall to stare and dream until the song is over. wonderful.

  • Hi its the long lost Dad again 'Doh' it wasnt this song it was ''JOANNA'' still by Scott Walker, great voice......

  • My long lost Dad of 37 years just got in contact, he told me he used to sing this song, thinking about me..my name is Joanna. By the way I urge anyone who's lost touch for whatever reason with anyone esp a parent GET IN TOUCH what a wonderful feeling...

  • I am the long lost Dad and my lovely daughters are back in my life and boy as Joanna said there really is no feeling like it, I did used to sing this to myself and sit their thinking of her........Fantastic

  • :( I know it was the other song...but I wonder if you still sing it :( I wonder if I'll just wonder or you'll ever let me know? ....

  • In the words of the songs '' I can't forget the one they call Joanna ''

  • because she left him for you yeah :D

  • Great Song! *.*

And my Name is Joanna xDD

  • a true singer. treemendous

  • joanna

    beatiful name

  • How he kicks some life into a corny old song.

    Amazing guy

  • Exactly.

  • when i broke up with my boyfriend he begged for me back and sang this song my name is Jo Anna.

  • If this isn't nice, I don't know what is

  • Quite simply the most awesome voice in music history

  • Definitely the best voice ever

  • I won't attack your opinion at all. I love old Scott and the new stuff goes over my head a little. I appreciate that he is still pushing the creative envelope though. :)

  • the job of an artist is, as the americans say, is to 'push the envelope' if we didn't have ppl like scott walker, we would'nt develop creatively, this is mainstream now, but back then,,,

  • I love this song

  • He was an inspiration - you listen to the Brel tapes and you can't help feeling moved by them!

  • I love Scott Engel's 1,2,3,4,5('Til...)and am proud of his recent stuff.

  • Wonderful voice and attractive man! what a shame he stopped singing!

  • He didn't...! Check out 'Climate of Hunter', 'Tilt' and 'The Drift'. "Just a man, Singing..."

  • Dear mortbutane, I know that Scott has made "Climate of hunter" and others, but he don't make this voice on the same register, I regret Scott One, two, three, four... friendly,

  • Come on give the new stuff a chance, and I mean A REAL chance not a switch on/off deal. It's Scott Walker and he deserves it.

  • If you don't 'get' Scott Walker, well, that's unfortunate. Those of us who do are VERY happy indeed.

  • Well done, Scott!

  • The string and horn arrangement is soppy but this is a very good song, by a fine songwriter: Jack Segal. It says a lot that Walker had the good taste to perform it.

  • He's like a fucking angel!

  • i think he was pretty amazing and after 40 years i can.t be wrong

  • Hemulen 40, you´re shit

  • My dear ... dat´s bull shite .Even crap group like Pretty Things did more for music than these guys . What you´re after? Really ? Pretty men ?

    Seek elsewhere !

    Signed

Sean Connery ( Engl. John Conny)

  • Hemulen40 - what you call boring, others call sophisticated. Between Scott and his so called "little disciple" David Bowie, they've produced some of the finest music of the last 40 years.

  • yes. he seemed so confident then, such a prized vocal delivery he had. What the hell happened?

  • When you think Scott was in his early 20's when he sang this ... His reading of a song, the control and vocal power, the maturity; he makes today's boy bands sound pathetic.

  • As a vocalist Scott has inspired me no end. He is the standard to aim for. As for this video: WOW! WOW! WOW! Thank you so much for posting this. x

  • I absolutely adore the voice of Scott Walker and wish he would sing to us again. I love his music - so unique and unchained. Thank you Mr. Walker for what you have given to the world of music. Please, give us more.

  • Incredible voice! Beautiful inside and it has to be said- CUTE as! love the guy.

  • Finest voice of the 60's and probably any male vocalist over the past 50yrs....if he toured again it would be a sell out everywhere but he's virtually a recluse....can someone put JOANNA on here please...

  • anyone who truly loves music cannot hear this voice and not like it,and one of the most timeless classics of any period the sun aint gonna shine anymore, thank you and Peace

  • shoulda gone for montague terrace or nite flights for an opener......thats the way to sucker them in !

  • gorgeous ! scott is one of my guilty pleasures. also major inspiration to may main man david bowie.

  • scott is one of my *greatest* pleasures... absolutely nothing guilty about it. agreed about bowie though, scott invented the singing style bowie took up from '74 onwards.

  • agreed.........i love him unreservedly. but when you play him to most modern folks they have a hard time getting their head around it. they see the 60's stuff as cheesy and the latest stuff as inpenetrable. i own most of his stuff including the beautiful boxset but only the mrs and one of my best friends understand it hence the "guilty" comment

  • I have had the same experiences. I made a girlfriend listen to "Jackie" once and she wasn't impressed- she said something about it being "so dramatic", as if that were a bad thing.;) maybe that wasn't the right song to start out with, but I just dropped it. oh well...

  • Timeless!

  • Fuck yeah!!
