I commented to Farmhandfilms's statement on page 2. Emo has nothing to do with any Gothic/Deathrock/Post-punk etc. Folks must stop trying to find resemblances between the crap they listen to and the above genres, for it is absolutely wrong. This is why I replied "Emo? Give me a break!" to Farmhandfilms' comment. I am old school goth, these kids were not even born as I was ALREADY BUYING Malaria records (1983). Interesting that you mention this.

Malaria! drummer Gudrun Gut was in fact in an early version of Einstürzende Neubauten (before joining Bettina Köster in Mania D. which morphed into Malaria!).

She and Blixa are very friendly and I have a cassette of them (plus some friends) doing an industrial interpretation of "Hamlet".

And although 4 members of the group are indeed German, let's give props to the US-Dutch axis too (organist Christine Hahn and guitarist Manon P. Duursma).

Another interesting connection - Blixa and Nick Cave were originally introduced by Malaria! keyboard player Susanne Kuhnke.

When I said 4 members were German above - I guess I was including early member Eva-Marie Gössling.

Only 3 of the "classic" lineup are German.

The other synth player in the clip (00:53) is Susanne Kuhnke, friend of Blixa and Nick Cave.
