John R. Christy has been accused of recanting his position that climate change is neither Anthropogenic nor Catastrophic, but he didn’t. He used two independent data sets, weather balloon and satellite for his findings. (see links in my about me) Later he only stated that there was some anthropogenic impact that could not be predicted 100 years out, but that what we’re doing was good for the plants.
1 /2 Obama stop offshore drilling until it was reinstated. This could cause a $5 a gallon increase, because we would grow dependent upon foreign nations we are not allies with in order to provide our oil. Cap and Trade (American Power Act) would increase gas prices increase by $2.58 a gallon according to George C. Marshall Institute& taxes on the average household up to $3200 according to the RNC Foreign countries price gouge w/ gas prices to $10/gal!.
@Gothikification If gas prices go up, it might encourage people to drive their cars less. It might also give fat Americans an incentive to ride a bike and get some exercise. In my book higher gas prices are a good thing. Of course I don't drive a car, so gas prices don't impact me as directly as they do other people.
@purplemutantas you are right on all counts. People complain about gas prices, yet they keep buying it in mass for huge gas guzzlers. Only when gas gets higher than ppl can afford will the oil companies control over alternative car fuel technology (or lack of technology) lessen, will the market for alternative energy become too profitable to ignore. So higher gas prices are great in that respect, but they need to get a lot higher before any real change happens
@lothre If the US government stopped giving subsidies and tax breaks to the oil companies, people would see what gas really costs. People in Europe have been paying much more for gas for years. I read that Obama plans on cutting subsidies to oil companies and using the money to fund alternative energy stuff.
@purplemutantas people in europe also enjoy higher wages, superior public transport, vehicles that are more fuel efficient which are not sold in the US which run on diesel, lower retirement ages, and in many places, cheaper healthcare. Tax breaks and subsides? how is that helping the consumer? If the government took more taxes from big oil who make criminal profits, the difference could be given back to the people. When do we look for fuel beyond Dino gas, after it is gone all gone?!
@lothre Yea many things in Europe are better than in the US.
The petroleum situation isn't just about fuel. petroleum is used for tons of stuff. Plastics, adhesives, fertilisers, chemicals, ETC. People tend to think of fuel and forget about all the other stuff petroleum is used for. Petroleum fuels our modern way of life. Although many of those petroleum products could be made out of hemp. There is a company that sells CD cases made out of hemp plastic.
Natural things are healthy since they don't have any side effects. You can really make sure that there will be no hassle since it's really a pure content without any artificial chemicals on it. Many are now aware of this simple yet very beneficial way on how to generate an electricity by simply using the wind as the main source which is quite interesting.
@mryellow123 Fertilizers that were used on plants were chemicals, yes but we can avoid that by growing our own plants. Aside from that, plants who were not commercialized doesn't have any chemicals on it. I guess wind is not commercialized and it's really natural. Wind power is the safest renewable energy that we can use to provide us free electricity through wind turbines.
I mounted three on a triangular plate, using three 12v motors mounted primarily inside the squirrel cages so they stay dry and cool. Then I wire 'em in series to charge a 36v golf cart I use around my neighborhood.
If you had a 10 foot pole you could have a dozen of these and still place your tv arial on top , or even two poles at either end of the house and a horizontal pole right accross the two filled with mini turbines giving you more torque than you would surely need , ever .
I live in Michigan USA and I built one similar to this I got a decent amount of power compared to wind, but bugs were attracted to it. Did anyone else have this problem?
hey that dan and denise rojas are really smart . If i had neighbors like them i would bake them cookies everyday . i would hope thay could help with my electric bill.
@SusannaMrsBMomEtc You just need to find one of the turbines, or make one yourself. Needs to be mounted on a shaft...find an old motor to hook it up to. You'd need a 12 v battery and an inverter for household use.
@tomview1 Great reply ! I'm glad you read johncarl's post about not saying anything negative. I've said too much already, I I don't want to use my freedom of expression and anger the johncarl..
not affected by turbulence, no need to face wind, no reduction gears needed if size is proper, tip speed will not exceed wind speed (needs no safety breaks) , low speed equals to low noise, can be mounted on any rooftop, easy to DIY make it, or salvage, or just use off the shelf parts, less problematic to maintain, low speed equls less wear by friction, what else you want?
Looking at videos today. I like the clip, nice job , have a look at my Home Wind Turbine videos and subscribe or friend me if you like. My patent pending system won a Green Design Contest, check it out.
verticals have a backside pressure, as one side catches wind, the other resists the wind. the power of a turbine comes from how many square feet of wind you can catch. thus a little strip on one side of any apparatus isn't enough to power much. verticals are fun as a science project but never used by any utility or serious wind power system.
There's no way to make any usable power off these things. The reason why they move in low wind is that they aren't producing any power. They are blowers, they were designed as blowers, they work as blowers. They are not wind turbines.
@wiredforstereo: They are also dirt cheap if you get them from a junkyard. You will not have a high-end wind power generator if you make it out of these things, but you will also have less of an initial expense to recoup.
@wiredforstereo I have to agree, a cylinder spinning on a stick will not generate power, without a way to convert it's rotational energy into electricity. It puzzles me as to why that is not mentioned in this video, afterall, it is about wind power, isn't it? This thing is nothing more than a fancy pinwheel.
they have pointet what can you use in your project... if you dont know have the wind power works then you have no project and you will not understend... everybody knows that you need generator,so they don't lose time on that.
Energy sources without the need for fuel or energy input exist ,But there are very powerfull forces that want to supress the technology,if you want a real Free energy Magnet Motor, get the blueprints at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Start the revolution!
You hit on the one thing that so many people who want to go green miss... REUSE. Take stuff that is filling our landfills, and retask it. These squirrel cages, old drill motors, old drives, etc, etc.
i just watched your vertical wind turbine diy, and then i came across this vid. you guys are on to something thanks for promoting green energy. Im from the upper peninsula of michigan and being on lake superior AND in the middle of nowhere theres tons of wind and junk yards. with these and those magnets your were using there is definitely some potential here. keep up the good work and inspiration. its the green mentality that counts ikedasquid doesnt know what hes talking about
So these things look pretty useless as they seem to be having problems with ovwecoming friction, but I wonder if welding a few of these together and maybe remove every 2 or 3 blade would make them work better or not.
You have to be Very Carefull that they are not Genatically Modified....Wake up!!!
Say No to Gen.Manipulated Food, Say no To Eradiated Meat, Fruits, Say No to Evil Chimtrails and WEATHER Wars....!!!? Wake UP....Say No to HAARP, Say No To Poisen in our Water and Air....Research Which country's have gone this Path and why!!!? Research and wake other people up....Awakening is happening, but we need to Accelerate it...
I FRIGGIN LOVE YOU GUYS! I've been racking my brain trying to come up with a dirt cheap method to make a simple efficient vertical wind turbine. Why didn't i think of using a blower motor...
i have seen a big version of this in action with no wind at ground level, even high up i could see very little wind in the trees and the turbine was going fucking fast as hell.
IMO the squirrel cage catch props will prove to be the most effective. As fans they always produced some of the best air thrust I've witnessed. Some modifications to the design would produce a universal catch prop.
"Before you rack your brain on a fancy design, why don't you just check your local junk yard? They may have everything you're looking for." 2:47 Still not suggesting you power your house with it. They're merely suggesting you look for the parts in a junk yard before you build something custom.
@ikedasquid You realize these do need to be bigger to work right? You honestly think they're suggesting to power your house with used blowers? It's obviously about the concept rather than the items dealt with in the video.
@ikedasquid, 2:47 "with minimal wind ... captures a BIT of natures power." She was saying that even a small set up CAN function. You are 'nay-saying' on straw-man arguments. For those of us looking for constructive ideas the model & explanation: inspire. What is your motivation for posting here? Do you think you're being productive? Where's your alternative? Yes, everyone here is such a moron they think they can power their home with a single squirrel cage fan...NOT.
@tmomof6 Please read my very first sentance on this video...I started the rant with overall praise for people behind the channel, I think their analysis here is wrong though. Not sure where the straw man is in the argument? They are clearly endorsing the use of discarded centrifugal blowers as a practical way to harness wind power.
@tmomof6 I posted here for 2 reasons. If you want to be green, and make a useful, energy efficient alternative device, one needs to learn the engineering behind it. If you just grab old parts and slap them together you won't achieve efficiency - and it won't be green.
That said, the engineering behind it isn't that hard. In most cases all the challenging math can be reduced to basic algebra. Hopefully this post will inspire some 'green engineer' to run the numbers before their next project.
@ikedasquid Hey smarty, even an inefficient wind generator generates FREE energy. Yes by all means do the math and maximise it, but your comments are as dopey as your mom.
@baalisgod666 It's not free, for two reasons. You will still have to gather the parts, and even if the turbine is free the generator and converter won't be. Divide that by the life of the shortest lived part and you have a cost/unit of energy produced.
Second, you will need to maintain the thing. If you make it out of cheap parts it's going to need plenty of work to keep it going. Figure a few hours a month * hourly wage at your day job. I'll take this a little further in the next post.
@baalisgod666 I have a pretty average house, and my average electric bill is probably $120/month. The average American makes about $20-25 per hour. So in 6 hours of work you pay your bill. If your POS squirrel cage VAWT requires 2 hours of maintenance a month, it better produce at least 1/3 of your monthly consumption...of course it won't, so that is why your argument and this idea are crap.
@ikedasquid You're wrong in so many ways it could take a week to ridicule you. I'll stick with one of your opportunity cost fallacy. Like most people you probably work about 168 hours a MONTH. There are 720 hours in a 30-day month. Many activities, like sleeping and eating, take up large amounts of the remainder.
However, there are easily two-hours worth of NON-COMPENSATED TIME available for you every month. Therefore, you have NO OPPORTUNITY COST and your argument FAILS HARD.
@DraconisRex instead of ridiculing why don't you make a point? You don't make it clear how the first paragraph relates to your point in the second. Why do those hours figures matter?
To argue against your second paragraph, how do you judge what your free time is worth? Is it worth $5/hr? Is it worth $55/hr? more? One way to judge what it is worth would be to use what someone else is willing to pay you for that time. As far as opportunity cost...what about the leisure time lost?
umm yeah, wind is like a couple of times a week unlike my hamster that runs every night in its wheel, some veggies and seeds and reading lamp for a whole night =D
Cool Dan. Can you make a video of how to do the wiring and do you need an alternator, or motor to conduct the electicity, and what do you hook it in to.
great vid...its so sad that our country has become a big currupt corporation...hemp, solar, wind and bringing back family farms can get our economy back on track and end food shortages and wars, but the banksters who make trillions off oil will never let it happen untill brainwashed americans wake up and take back the power....everybody go watch K-Rino - Grand Deception.....and Fall of the Republic
@ikedasquid How is it a waste of time? The fact that it is generating electricity with having to use fossil fuels is smart, regardless of how simplistic the design. That is, unless you are proposing a more efficient do-ti-yourself junkyard turbine. ???
@luidavinci Go read the whole thing, come up a calculation you think is reasonable, and then you will be able to explain why this is a waste of time. This design is not smart, it is naive. There are much better DIY turbines. Go look at the ones where half a PVC pipe is engineered into a blade.
You will burn more energy making this junkyard POS than you will ever gain with it.
@ikedasquid Ah, I see. I misunderstood your original comment. Do you have experience building efficient wind turbines? I would like to learn. It's a skill that everyone could benefit from.
@luidavinci I have experience with industrial scale generators (operation and repair/maint) and voltage regulator design. I worked in utilities for about a decade. The only experience I have with wind generation is working out the numbers to figure out what kind of renewable options were available where recently moved (Iowa - windy). Lately, I've been working with a startup trying to get solar powered grain drying to work (electronic controls) . I get lots of ideas from channels like this.
Anyone posting negative comments should be aware that Dan and Denise are taking their own time to make videos to try to help people and are not asking for anything in return ,My dad once said if you have nothing good to say it is better to say nothing at all. Thanks for all your efforts Green Power Science!
@johncarl43447 Your dad is an idiot. If he is unhappy he just takes it? Negative comments can be turned into something constructive when someone sees a fault and has the balls to speak up.
@johncarl43447 Not to belittle your comment, but they actually get payed pretty well for these videos. This video has made them around $4,000 from views alone.
@johncarl43447 if they are going to throw it out there, they need to be able to accept compliments and criticism. That's what helps us human create a dialog and refine our ideas.
if they want one sided compliments they should show the video to their kindergarten teacher.
I love energy and science but this is lacking in both. The device that was shown wasn't even connected to a generator and no potential watts / voltage were measured. green energy is the only sustainable electrical future we have
Apart from the knitted wooly hat of the woman and the terrible spelling from other posters, it is a great concept worth the experimentation of every person. Even if one may only be able to light a single bulb, it is one less bulb which needs a nuclear or coal-fired power station behind it.
@bratboy90 Unless there is a power outage. I have been looking into wind power for use during power outages. I don't need to be able to power my whole apartment. I just need enough juice for some LED lights and to charge my cell phone and laptop. The wind turbine in this vid might fit the bill.
I guess people so soon forget that generators and the like can be linked together to provide for there needs Just look at solar cells to illustrate my point. Several cells are linked together to create usable energy levels. Take this small idea and line a roof top then you may hay something.... 20 watts times 10 is 200... and so on. One doesn't need a giant wheel to generate all there needs Just think beyond the obvious.
good work here

Of course I don't drive a car, so gas prices don't impact me as directly as they do other people.
purplemutantas 10 months ago
@purplemutantas you are right on all counts. People complain about gas prices, yet they keep buying it in mass for huge gas guzzlers. Only when gas gets higher than ppl can afford will the oil companies control over alternative car fuel technology (or lack of technology) lessen, will the market for alternative energy become too profitable to ignore. So higher gas prices are great in that respect, but they need to get a lot higher before any real change happens
lothre 9 months ago
@lothre If the US government stopped giving subsidies and tax breaks to the oil companies, people would see what gas really costs. People in Europe have been paying much more for gas for years. I read that Obama plans on cutting subsidies to oil companies and using the money to fund alternative energy stuff.
purplemutantas 9 months ago
@purplemutantas people in europe also enjoy higher wages, superior public transport, vehicles that are more fuel efficient which are not sold in the US which run on diesel, lower retirement ages, and in many places, cheaper healthcare. Tax breaks and subsides? how is that helping the consumer? If the government took more taxes from big oil who make criminal profits, the difference could be given back to the people. When do we look for fuel beyond Dino gas, after it is gone all gone?!
lothre 9 months ago

@windturbinesinc Heroin has no side-effects? St Johns Wort isn't contraindicated to SSRIs? ok.....
You might be surprised by this, but plants are made out of chemicals.... Amazing isn't it.
mryellow123 11 months ago
@mryellow123 Fertilizers that were used on plants were chemicals, yes but we can avoid that by growing our own plants. Aside from that, plants who were not commercialized doesn't have any chemicals on it. I guess wind is not commercialized and it's really natural. Wind power is the safest renewable energy that we can use to provide us free electricity through wind turbines.

not affected by turbulence, no need to face wind, no reduction gears needed if size is proper, tip speed will not exceed wind speed (needs no safety breaks) , low speed equals to low noise, can be mounted on any rooftop, easy to DIY make it, or salvage, or just use off the shelf parts, less problematic to maintain, low speed equls less wear by friction, what else you want?

verticals have a backside pressure, as one side catches wind, the other resists the wind. the power of a turbine comes from how many square feet of wind you can catch. thus a little strip on one side of any apparatus isn't enough to power much. verticals are fun as a science project but never used by any utility or serious wind power system.

There's no way to make any usable power off these things. The reason why they move in low wind is that they aren't producing any power. They are blowers, they were designed as blowers, they work as blowers. They are not wind turbines.
wiredforstereo 1 year ago
@wiredforstereo I'm with you on that one.
PlausableApple4 1 year ago
@wiredforstereo: They are also dirt cheap if you get them from a junkyard. You will not have a high-end wind power generator if you make it out of these things, but you will also have less of an initial expense to recoup.
valhar2000 1 year ago
@valhar2000 No matter how cheap it is, you will not have a wind generator. These things will make no power. None. It spins, neat. No power.
wiredforstereo 1 year ago
@wiredforstereo I have to agree, a cylinder spinning on a stick will not generate power, without a way to convert it's rotational energy into electricity. It puzzles me as to why that is not mentioned in this video, afterall, it is about wind power, isn't it? This thing is nothing more than a fancy pinwheel.

"Before you rack your brain on a fancy design, why don't you just check your local junk yard? They may have everything you're looking for." 2:47 Still not suggesting you power your house with it. They're merely suggesting you look for the parts in a junk yard before you build something custom.
Frostlander 1 year ago
@ikedasquid You realize these do need to be bigger to work right? You honestly think they're suggesting to power your house with used blowers? It's obviously about the concept rather than the items dealt with in the video.
Frostlander 1 year ago
@Frostlander I disagree... 2:47
ikedasquid 1 year ago
@ikedasquid, 2:47 "with minimal wind ... captures a BIT of natures power." She was saying that even a small set up CAN function. You are 'nay-saying' on straw-man arguments. For those of us looking for constructive ideas the model & explanation: inspire. What is your motivation for posting here? Do you think you're being productive? Where's your alternative? Yes, everyone here is such a moron they think they can power their home with a single squirrel cage fan...NOT.
tmomof6 1 year ago
@tmomof6 Please read my very first sentance on this video...I started the rant with overall praise for people behind the channel, I think their analysis here is wrong though. Not sure where the straw man is in the argument? They are clearly endorsing the use of discarded centrifugal blowers as a practical way to harness wind power.
ikedasquid 1 year ago
@tmomof6 I posted here for 2 reasons. If you want to be green, and make a useful, energy efficient alternative device, one needs to learn the engineering behind it. If you just grab old parts and slap them together you won't achieve efficiency - and it won't be green.
That said, the engineering behind it isn't that hard. In most cases all the challenging math can be reduced to basic algebra. Hopefully this post will inspire some 'green engineer' to run the numbers before their next project.
ikedasquid 1 year ago
@ikedasquid Hey smarty, even an inefficient wind generator generates FREE energy. Yes by all means do the math and maximise it, but your comments are as dopey as your mom.
baalisgod666 1 year ago
@baalisgod666 It's not free, for two reasons. You will still have to gather the parts, and even if the turbine is free the generator and converter won't be. Divide that by the life of the shortest lived part and you have a cost/unit of energy produced.
Second, you will need to maintain the thing. If you make it out of cheap parts it's going to need plenty of work to keep it going. Figure a few hours a month * hourly wage at your day job. I'll take this a little further in the next post.
ikedasquid 1 year ago
@baalisgod666 I have a pretty average house, and my average electric bill is probably $120/month. The average American makes about $20-25 per hour. So in 6 hours of work you pay your bill. If your POS squirrel cage VAWT requires 2 hours of maintenance a month, it better produce at least 1/3 of your monthly consumption...of course it won't, so that is why your argument and this idea are crap.
ikedasquid 1 year ago
@ikedasquid You're wrong in so many ways it could take a week to ridicule you. I'll stick with one of your opportunity cost fallacy. Like most people you probably work about 168 hours a MONTH. There are 720 hours in a 30-day month. Many activities, like sleeping and eating, take up large amounts of the remainder.
However, there are easily two-hours worth of NON-COMPENSATED TIME available for you every month. Therefore, you have NO OPPORTUNITY COST and your argument FAILS HARD.
DraconisRex 1 year ago
@DraconisRex instead of ridiculing why don't you make a point? You don't make it clear how the first paragraph relates to your point in the second. Why do those hours figures matter?
To argue against your second paragraph, how do you judge what your free time is worth? Is it worth $5/hr? Is it worth $55/hr? more? One way to judge what it is worth would be to use what someone else is willing to pay you for that time. As far as opportunity cost...what about the leisure time lost?

@ikedasquid How is it a waste of time? The fact that it is generating electricity with having to use fossil fuels is smart, regardless of how simplistic the design. That is, unless you are proposing a more efficient do-ti-yourself junkyard turbine. ???
luidavinci 1 year ago
@luidavinci Go read the whole thing, come up a calculation you think is reasonable, and then you will be able to explain why this is a waste of time. This design is not smart, it is naive. There are much better DIY turbines. Go look at the ones where half a PVC pipe is engineered into a blade.
You will burn more energy making this junkyard POS than you will ever gain with it.
ikedasquid 1 year ago
@ikedasquid Ah, I see. I misunderstood your original comment. Do you have experience building efficient wind turbines? I would like to learn. It's a skill that everyone could benefit from.
luidavinci 1 year ago
@luidavinci I have experience with industrial scale generators (operation and repair/maint) and voltage regulator design. I worked in utilities for about a decade. The only experience I have with wind generation is working out the numbers to figure out what kind of renewable options were available where recently moved (Iowa - windy). Lately, I've been working with a startup trying to get solar powered grain drying to work (electronic controls) . I get lots of ideas from channels like this.
