@MrNarrowboat Unfortunately, the U-boats are very hard to identify in footage this old. Being mostly submerged in the shots doesn't help either. I honestly do not know.
@ArchiveOfTruth ahh...mostly British footage but in some cases nations exchanged footage after the war ended. So there is a possibility of German footage being mixed in. Although obviously from a different perspective or angle than the British. Many battles were filmed from both sides.

@KooKooRooWhore I have a large archive of WW1 footage that I stumbled across. There is about 25 solid hours of footage in the set. Most of it not seen by probably 95% of the people out there. Simply amazing stuff!! In fact one of my videos on WW1 caught the attention of the BBC in London. They want to know where I got it too. lol
i'm so showing this movie to my grade ten history class. It really shows the dangers of what the navies went through and how they overcame it. Thanks for posting.
Outstanding video. My father served during WWI in the Navy aboard the USS Aeolus so this is very moving for me to see this, reminds us of the danger the troops were in.
well i was thinking around the average age ppl had babies and thats around 20 years old but your dad was born when?cause i was born in 96 and its just a fasination of me to think of what kids did who who around xactly 100 years before me lol
Oh, yes almost 100 years, my father was born in 1895, how about that, and he had a brother born a year to the day after him. 14 children in all that his mother had! Amazing.

Is there any footage of U24? My grandfather was on board HMS Formidable, when it was torpedoed on 31st December 1914.

just asking, can someone explain to me how ww1 submarines were able to submerge
justinjacques766 1 year ago
@justinjacques766 Submarines have ballast tanks. When they need to submerge the tanks are filled, when they surface the water in pumped out.
