  • thumbs up if you want The Kingdom of the Sun to be remade as a broadway musical

  • I loooooove this song. As much as I love the movie as it is, I would love to see what The Kingdom of the Sun would have been like

  • eartha didn't die

  • @SuperWierdo15 Uh, yes she did. I believe she died in 2008 or 2009.

  • @ShowtuneSampler o yeh i just googled it nvm thts sad she died of colon cancer :(

  • Mare in the moon reference at 0:29 :D

  • Turn me on ?

  • this movie could've been so much better if this was the main plot...

  • Who here thinks this would be a PERRRRRRFECT song in one of Disney's Kingdom Hearts games?

  • @SuperWorldJumper It would be, and it would be a great tribute for disney to do for Eartha Kitt by putting this song in the game!

  • Rip Eartha Kitt

the best ver. of catwoman (to me)

  • Wow, now I'm starting to get mixed feelings about they making The Emperor's New Groove instead of Kingdom of the Sun. And that's saying something, since Emperor's is one of my fave movies

  • where did you find this?

  • @jholmes7615 the soundtrack

  • Shrive:

1: to administer the sacrament of reconciliation to

    2: to free from guilt

So, it sounds as though Yzma's dad, the mortician, was a necromancer...somehow that doesn't surprise me.

  • @FoxBullet Shrive also means to purify, to make holy, to cleanse. Like ritualistically shriving a body in preparation for burial. He was a mummifier.

  • The best villain songs, I think, don't just talk about how evil the person is, they show character--no other person but that character could sing the song. And this illustrates Yzma's character perfectly. She isn't just a woman who wants political power, she wants to blot out the sun so that she can stay eternally beautiful. Now THAT is a badass villain, and no one could voice her but the late, great Eartha Kitt. RIP, Eartha. We love you.

  • @TheaterRaven so before this was mainly a buddy comedy, was the plot something like her getting rid of kuzco so she could try to black out the sun or something?

  • @bh5496 Yep. This movie was originally titled "Kingdom in the Sun" and was supposed to be another big epic animated musical, like "The Lion King". Kuzco (originally named Manco) was the emperor tired of palace life, so he switched places with a peasant, Pacha, who looked just like him. Yzma, a sorceress, discovered the switch, turned Manco into a llama, used Pacha as her puppet to do her bidding, and was planning to black out the sun.

  • @TheaterRaven wow, in that case i'm glad they turned this into a buddy commedy. it's just too bad Yzma didn't get another song written for her. :(

  • @bh5496 While I love the buddy comedy this movie became, I'd be interested to see what the other movie would have been--it's a pretty epic plot, if you think about it. :) And yes, Yzma definitely should have had a song in the movie. They could have even still used this one, with a few tweaks to the lyrics and different visuals--the line "Snuff out the light" could have become a metaphor for killing Kuzco, since the Incas believed their emperors were descendants of the sun god.

  • @bh5496 What about int the Emperor's new school? Yzma has more then one song!

  • What many people don't know is...

This song was written at a time when the movie's plot was completely different! At this time, the movie was titled Kingdom of the Sun and Yzma was a magic sorceress who wanted to destroy the sun so she could retain her youth as the sun wrinkled her skin. Pacha was also the same age as the Emperor and he switched places with him just for fun (much like The Prince and the Pauper.)

  • This is so BADASS!

    Eartha Kitt ROCKS!

  • Actually if you were clever, this song could have been included in the movie if you use visuals. Everytime the sun is mentioned they could point the camera towards kuzso, to have him represent the sun and Yzma want's the throne so she had to "snuff out the light" so to speak. As for the dark spirit she calls: since nobody knows Yzma's mother's name, maybe it could reference her.

Anyway a great song that I wish was part of the movie still, maybe they could add it as an extra on DVD someday.

  • It a shame this song was deleted after all Erta Kitt was a singer but I see why the cut it , it does fit with anything in the movie

  • Eartha Kitt was a goddess.

  • @Godzillawolf1

I ain't doing a MV, but I am writing a oneshot of sorts with her using a modified version of it more tailored to her specific story :D

  • Why hasn't someone made an MV for Nightmare Moon using this song?

  • @Morigane90 you misspelled Eartha

  • Am I the only one who thinks the tune is similar to "Reach For The Light" from Balto?

  • Eartha Kitt did a fabulous job here! Awesome song! :D

  • like a voice of velvet

  • I would have loved to see Kingdom of the Sun.

  • I just found the original plot and it's REALLY cool! It's called kingdom of the sun, and kuzco (here called manco) is a prince who bears the mark of the sun. He then finds pacha (here he looks exactly like kuzco minus the mark) and they decide to trade places. Yzma (here a sorcerous) finds out about the switch and turns manco into a llama. Then she would try to take over the kingdom and judging by this song, raise some kind of demon to take out the sun.

  • OMGOSH! Wish they used this in the movie! It's catchie! <3 =)

  • I think they should try to make Kingdom of the Sun again, just in a different South American Indian location and, of course, different characters=3 And they should include this song. The idea would have made a very interesting movie.

  • i was so upset to hear that Eartha died. cancer should get cancer and die on its own

  • also upon hearing the original concept... I think it would have been pretty good. A lot better than this movie. (Dont get me wrong its a great movie but I would have prefered it to be more serious...)

  • Aw a shame this wasn't in the movie. Would have been spectacular. :)

  • This original idea sounds better than what came out...even if what came out was awesome.

  • She should have used a moisturizer with a high SPF content. That would have helped!

  • They should release a DVD of all their deleated songs (from 2-d films) with animation added

  • O.O Apparently this song was dropped when the plot was changed. Based on this song alone, I want to know what that plot was because it sounds awesome.

  • @PSshadow92 Apparently, in the original plot, rather than being the mad scientist she was in the final version, Yzma was more of a sorceress. As the song suggests, she blames the sun for causing her body to age so rapidly, so her grand plan was to summon some kind of demon that would block out the sun forever. They still had her changing Kuzco into a llama, and originally there was going to be a shepherdess/ female llama herder who would eventually become a love interest for Kuzco.

  • Someone should do a video of Zira singing this...

  • By the way... outrageous things with a mummy?

Is that implied necrophilia? In my Disney?

  • @Archimonde259 at first i thought it was "and daddy was no dummmy, did outrageous things with mommy" as in implied perversion between Yzma's parents,is that the better option for you?^^

  • @Morigane90 I don't really know, it's depraved all the same =D

  • @Morigane90 That Song I Didn't Hear it in The Movie! This Movie I Was Born in 2000!

  • @Morigane90 actually, i think it means more like he was going experiments on mummies (being the royal mortician, he had easy access), since he was trying to acquire the recipe for eternal youth. i think he may have been bringing them back to life, since the line directly after that was "often the stiffs that he would drive/looked better dead than they did alive". not everything is a dirty innuendo XD

  • @Archimonde259 Most likely it's referring to dressing up the corpses or something to that effect.

  • @Aelitachan1 Yeah, that's what they'll tell you, but deep inside, you know it's just a cover.

I mean... outrageous. Plus the reference to the corpses looking better dead than they did alive.

  • @Archimonde259 lol No he was the royal mortician that means he embalmed bodies when she says he did outrageous things with a mummy it means that he was good at his job and made the dead folks look good. No Necrophilia involved lol

  • @Archimonde259 I always thought he, like, use magic to raise it from the dead or something.

Also, stay away from my World Tree! >O

  • @Archimonde259 Pretty sure she's referring to how she made the mummies look spectacular despite the fact they were corpses. How the people had aged and died and yet they still looked good.

  • @Archimonde259

A bit out of date but i think what it employs is that her father was a magician or someone who was a master in the art of voodoo.

  • @Archimonde259 I just saw the recording session with Eartha who sung this song and they showed clips of what the 'music video' would of been like in sketches and when she sings 'did outrageous things with a mummy' the clip came on and showed her pulling up the head of a dead person and tied its hair in a pony tail etc.

So it means that he was pretty much a master of his art and could do pretty much anything to a dead body and make it look good, so when you actually see that it all makes sense.

  • @TheLostLenore Still sounds hilarious taken out of context, though.

  • @TheLostLenore

    Double entendre.

Though I'd love to see that session! RIP Eartha Kitt.

  • ...whoa, original Yzma was hardcore.

Screw taking over an empire, let's destroy the sun instead! (Reminds me of Blanche Dubois from A Streetcar Named Desire, if Blanche was a psycho evil sorceress).

  • This strangely, can match up to Be Prepared's awesomeness

  • Comment removed

  • This is my favorite villain song along with Be Prepared

  • This song would do better for Tangled, the way it refers to time, age, and the light.

  • @mechasaurus It was from the original plot were Yzma was going to DESTROY THE SUN!

  • This song was originally from the cancelled Kingdom of the Sun

  • Yeah! Screw the sun!

    *ahem*

But I get they cut this because it is *shades* a little Dark.

  • @ilovethelegend YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH

  • Comment removed

  • @ilovethelegend YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

  • i think i understand why they cut this...

  • @AngelDog102 They cut it because it didn't fit the plot of the movie at all.

The Emperor's New Groove originally started as a much more typical Disney movie called "The Kingdom of the Sun." When it was changed into a comedy, it just didn't work anymore.

  • wow I just learned new things about her--and I now know where this song came from.

  • I just reeeeally Reeeeeally wish this was animated. This would just be sooooo awesome!

  • @TheAtcyJAC

Andreas Deja and Sting (the composer of this song) confirmed once that the only scene sequences from The Kingdom of the sun that were fully finished (everything and color) were the intro and Yzma's song scene.

    Voices and everything.

The movie was 40% done when it was reworked into TENG. Disney delayed the production for 6 more moths so TENG could be finished, and left everything KoS was in a box, I wonder if we will ever see those two scenes from Kos.

  • @ImpmonX

Maybe they'll put those scenes on the next special edition DVD... you never know...

  • @TheAtcyJAC

    'Specially the part at 3:04

  • Guard: For the last time, we did NOT order a giant trampoline!

Delivery Bloke: You know, pal, you could've told me that BEFORE I set it up!

    *BOING!*

    Simply hilarious :P

  • Comment removed

  • have u noticed the song has reference to Tangled / Rapunzel

    Mother Gothel .... interesting ;)

(hopefully in 10 yrs or so they'll add this song like the did with lion king and batb)

  • @DisneyDude2010 well here's the thing Lin King And beauty only had one song missing, This one cut EVERY song.

  • I gotta admit ... this song is catchy! =D I love Eartha Kitt and Yzma! Thank you so much for uploading!!!

  • Eartha kitt died?

  • @analuvshayden11 Yeah,in 2008.

  • LOL This movie was great:D

  • Kingdom of the Sun(the movie this song really came from) would've been great I still wish that things could've worked differently with that fiasco but surprisingly I really enjoy the Emperors New Groove and find it really funny in a Tex Avery kind of way

  • The moon gets it's light from the sun, haha. Didn't think that one through, did you Yzma?

  • I would LOVE to see the finished animation of this. Heck, I want to see all the work they did on this movie that didn't make it (including Kingdom of the Sun.) I always do whenever I hear about a Disney movie that was stuck in "developement hell" (Tangled, Emperor's New Groove ETC.)

  • @dottiedots221 I know! Mainly because she talks about keeping her youth. Not the voices though. They sound COMPLETELY different.

  • Oh, dear.

Forgive me, everyone, but I can't but help to think of Sting when I listen to this song. It's so good. <3

Shame that the movie was never made. But still, this is ballin' song. Great music.

  • one of the reasons this was taken out is that it talks about that she became a magician but in the movie they wanted her to seem as more of a alchamist

  • WHY don't they have this on iTunes?!

  • @ZeldaGiygasLord

They do! I have both a US and Canada account and it's on both!

Search for the film, not the song. I just tried it before I post this so it should be there!

  • @daviddarkmaster Oh, thanks! I looked for the song by name and it didn't come up. Then again, that was a while ago, so maybe they added it. Why they would suddenly add an album to a 10-year-old animated movie, though, I'm not sure...maybe I'm crazy. Well, thanks! I must get it!

  • Comment removed

  • From which episode is the first image?

  • I memorised this.

  • I wonder if a screenplay was ever written for this? If so, it would be a gift if it was released!

  • i don't know why but i'm obsessed with this song... OwO i bought a disney villians cd and I didn't recognize this one, so i looked this up. Wow, i had no idea about the original concept... Rest in peace Ertha Kitt!

  • Why did this song get deleted?

  • @KBAFourthtime

it was at the time when the emperor's new groove was originally goin to be a typical disney musical called Kigdom in the sun, it was deleted cause the original movie production was drpioed becuase the oringanl plot was very predictable

  • @KBAFourthtime

    I would tell you but the story is to long! Check out this link;

DisneyWikia and search for E'sNG! Go to Production; and you'll find out the whole story.

  • Youknowtheonlyonetoblamewouldbemyenemy the Sun! XD

  • You know, I COULD do the voice of Yzma.

Watch my Bugs Bunny joins the NED FORCE clip and see if i should do it, or not.

By the way, it's my song "Cheatsy's One-In-a-million" my version of Feel like a million, except with Cheatsy's mix

  • *gets my groove on*

This song is so awesome....I think this is the sole reason I'm buying the soundtrack next week....I've listened to it about 500+ times in a row.....Eartha Kitt was that epic.

  • This is such an awesome song. I wish they could have found a place for it in the movie, but the movie was awesome too...

  • This would make great money on the soundtrack anyway.

  • This would be a amazing song/scene!

BTW: Does Yzma remind you of Mother Gothel in Disney's upcoming movie, Tangled in this???

  • @dottiedots221

yes it does! I mean becuase

I will give a small spoiler

    -

    -

    -

    -

    -

    -

but one of Mother Gothel intentions is Yzma original intention

  • This song... It's almost like it's taunting us; "Listen to the awesome you can never have now..."

    ...WAIT.

    Does that mean... Yzma won?

    0.o'

  • I wish we could've traded Kronk's New Groove and Emperor's New School for another attempt at Kingdom of the Sun now.

Not Emperor's New Groove though nothing is worth losing that one.

  • @hellmo64

Indeed. This in one of those time I wish there was a real life Pheonix Down to put to use...

Or a portal to an alternate universe where it was made... and Ertha Kitt was still alive...

    But that's just wishful thinking...

  • @hellmo64 i kinda liked tens

they gave a new view into yzmas character

  • @Morigane90

You mean they found a new way of saying she's a bitter old hag? :P

  • @hellmo64 Well, sorta good news...fantheory has it that Mother Gothel from Tangled was built on the remainders of Yzma's character that they didn't get to use. It's even possible that her candle-dousing in Mother Knows Best is a reference to this very song!

  • @hellmo64 I agree with you. Kronk's New Groove was ok, but the TV show just was beating a dead horse and running some of the funniest parts of TENG into the ground. They could probably still make EOTS, just change the names. Seems like it would have been/would be interesting. But I'd never trade TENG for the world. It's one of my favorites and one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

  • @hellmo64 I think it could have been a good sequel to New Groove (with a new character to be Kuzco's lookalike).

  • RIP EARTH KITT

At least we know there is one more star up there, shinning as bright as ever!

(When the sun goes down, anyway)

  • Cannot believe this was deleted from Emperor's New Groove! It's great song!!!

  • from 3:24 the melody is ruined, what a pity

  • This is one of the best villain songs ever. Too bad it wasn't used in the original movie cause the plot was rewritten to what it is and now yzma's voice actress died, future installments are out of the question. But its still one of the most enjoyable villain songs disney ever wrote.

  • What could have been...

  • Aah I remember this song! They kept it on the soundtrack. I always like it. It has a catchy tune in it.

    R.I.P. Eartha Kitt!

  • In the third installment of the films, this song was going to be the intro to YZMA's Old Groove.

Sadly, in the early stages; Eartha Kitt fell to serious illness and the project was cancelled.

  • @daviddarkmaster yeah,i heard of that

it's sad in so many ways

we lost the wounderful singer and actress eartha kitt and also the opportunity to see another movie with yzma (which i guess would have been a much better sequel than kronks new groove)

  • @Morigane90

Tragic as Eartha Kitt's death is, they could still make the movie but with Susan Silo who has a very similar voice.

  • @ghtjdjdhfjeosnvcurth i think that would be a really big insult to eartha kitts fans and it would rather besmirch her legacy than doing any good

  • @Morigane90 I think they should still make the Yzma's New Groove but have one of those "In memory of...." things. Plus a theatrical release, and the DVD release having with a DVD about her life.

  • @ghtjdjdhfjeosnvcurth Wow I never knew that but Yzma was also voiced by Grey DeLisle

  • @ghtjdjdhfjeosnvcurth And they could still use Eartha's singing voice for this, since it's recorded.

  • @daviddarkmaster

No this was the song made for the first movie, they decided on a other storyline, but this was made for the first movie

  • @zimstinka

Yes it was made for the first movie! But after it was cut and they did the sequel; it was decided to do a story on Yzma in the third movie. Much to Eartha's delight, they were going to make this song the intro.

  • @daviddarkmaster

If you say, The Lyrics do sound very very strange for a intro. I suppose there will never be a third movie?

  • @daviddarkmaster are you joking or were they seriously considering doing a Yzma movie?

  • @TheSlickAndroid

Yes; they wanted to use the original story line from the first movie and use it to explain her origins. How she got into potions and used it to try and destroy the sun, to how she became the emperor's advisor. The story line was still being worked out.

Sadly, Eartha was diagnosed with cancer. Both Eartha and the Producers, didn't want to take the risk of not finishing without her. SO IT WAS CANCELLED!

  • @daviddarkmaster wow...thats really sad. All I can say is I hope she makes it through this (I'm not a really good motivator, but I'm trying hard to do the best I can).also,I found out the Emperor's New Groove was originally supposed to be a more traditional Disney epic called "Kingdom of the Sun",and Sting came up with the songs, but it was retooled into "The Emperor's new Groove and most of his songs were taken off. Sting was pretty pissed. I just thought that'd be interesting info.

  • @TheSlickAndroid

I did know that! I was disappointed as well when they changed it but its still a nice movie.

Sting and Eartha in many ways co-wrote this song. It was a bummer that in the end it was cut; but that's what happens some times.

  • @daviddarkmaster yeah, there are movies that have great and brilliant scenes that, unfortunately have to be cut out of the final result for time and pacing(example:Clerks 2).

  • @daviddarkmaster and the backround singers you here were suppose to be like these three mummies cause instead of Yzma being like a scientist she was more like a witch doctor, the mummies were like what the hyenas were for Scar

  • Comment removed

  • @daviddarkmaster

This was originally going to be a song on Kingdom of the Sun...

  • @blackmumba111

    You missed my earlier comments.

Yes, you are very correct it was; but when the film was changed, it was cut and placed on the film's soundtrack. That would be its fate!

But when Knock got a sequel film. It was decided Yzma would get the third. The film would reveal her origins, how she climbed her way to the top and how she failed in her plot to block out the sun's light in her pervious kingdom.

2006 Eartha Kitt discovered her cancer. Project Cancelled!

  • @daviddarkmaster

Oh, alright. I looked it up. That was amazing that I never knew that piece of information, but thanks for not calling me an idiot or ranting about how I should read before I post. I hate when people do that. Sorry for the confusion.

  • @daviddarkmaster No. The Song was for a early Version of the first film

  • @eagc7

Click on VIEW ALL COMMENTS and you'll see my earlier posts; I go into much more detail. But you are 100% correct!
