Forgive my ignorance on the E=mc2 equation, but plus or minus the speed of light squared gives the same result.

Is it fair to suggest that the equation could also read Energy = mass x (+/- the speed of light)squared? Or is this scenario already accommodated? Is this observation irrelevant?
