i believe he said: stop before start. i believe that is a common "saying" that simply means stop and think about what you are about to say, before you say it. you may thus find that the path or idea you are about to partake is wrongheaded (having or showing bad judgement; misguided).

The war on drugs is necessary to continue the funding of covert black ops, to perpetually expand already enormous bureaucratic agencies like the DEA and ATF, to maintain the steady influx of prisoners in increasingly privatized prison systems (the U.S currently leads the world in percentage of incarceration), to create a need for an ever-pervasive surveillance of the public, and to ensure the continued existence of drug cartels and warlords. Great plan.

Freedom is better.

the reason why a lot of people take drugs is that they see it as a sign of rebelling, like sticking two fingers up at the authorities. If drugs are legalised, this 'rebelling' is diluted and in particular teenagers won;t bother with it. That's why it has drug taking ahs decreased in Hollands.

The death of Milton Friedman was a very sad occasion. Of all those who regularly and publicly commented on big issues, Friedman was the most rigorous thinker, by far. His death left a huge void in the public discourse. At the start of 2009, the prospects of filling that void seem slim.

This isn't a moral problem, it's a problem of government absconding with individual freedom of choice.

We care nothing of an individual's choice to self-govern, self-direct his or her own life, as long as that choice is at no cost to others without consent.

WAR ON DRUGS is a HUGE moral problem. it is driven by misguided religion and racism, for starters.

this is THE single-most [biggest] problem confronting America and therefore the world: if we could adjust out attitude and our laws, our values, our MORALS, on this issue we would go a long way toward up-righting our floundering society and spreading freedom ad democracy.

that's the short version.

I loved when he said it is not an economical problem, but a MORAL one.

I am an economist and always respected his work, but his vision on this subject really moved me...only if other influential personalities could express what they really think it is RIGHT.
