  • this is a little late for a post, but i will try to clear up some things for everyone, while the animation is for a cvt, not an ivt, the transmission as a whole is an ivt. at the very end of the video there is an image. this image shows us that there is a planetary gear system with both the input and output attached to it. it acts as a calculator, when the transmission is at a 1:1 gear ratio, it is actually at a geared neutral

  • A CVT cannot reach a ratio of 1:0 while still positively engaged and still require a clutch of some sort to dis-engage or re-engage. IVTs can and do not require clutches. CVTs can function via a variety of mechanics, not just belts and pulleys. See wikipedia. Look for SIVAT and Infinitely Variable Transmission.

Hope this clears things up for ya. :^)

  • That's a CVT , not an IVT.

  • @peloyellow it's not CVT. CVT uses belts and pulleys with adjustable size.

  • Why it's called IVT, but not CVT? The transmission ratio surely cannot variate Infinitely...

  • @kacarov yes it does. there are a infinite about of ratios. say the ratio goes from 1/2 to 2/1 there are a infinite about of ratios between them.
