iv got a 98 5.9 mag. i cant wait to do some mods this summer when i get working again. any ideas that will still keep the truck reliable and wont break the bank? im gonna get cold air intake and a chip to start.
The RT with the 360 Magnum is geared for acceleration but sucks for top end. The hemi trucks are fast bastards as well. But they are also in a heavier truck. I had an Dakota RT and it was eating stock hemi's all day long off the line. It was also just a 3 speed and a fuel pig
my 318 would smoke most hemis. just wait until its built with a hp number close to that of brand new stock trucks. technology is good but also is used to hinder how much power goes to the wheels. like torque management and rev limiters
Having owned an '02 RCSB 5.9 Ram 1500 and now a '12 RCSB Hemi Ram 1500, I can honestly say the 5.9 just isn't in the same league stock. My 02 ran a 16.9 stock quarter, my new one runs a 14.4. THAT"S A HUGE DIFFERENCE.
i beat a hemi the other day in my 5.9 he was ahead of me he hit it first i ran him down and flew by him. gotta love that. and i beat a dodge diesel turbo the other day as well.. i have fun with my truck i dont care if i get beat its just good ol fasion fun
My 96 ram 1500 is a Sport 4x4 5.9l, reg cab, short box, auto, and i have NEVER been shut down. be it a Hemi, cummins, powerstroke, duramax, or even a civic. The only truck ive ever had besides this one was a 2000 ram 2500 3/4 ton 4wd ext cab short bed and it had the MASSIVE V10 in it. and again, nothing could out pull, mud bog, or beat me in a race. the hemis are nice and id love to have one, but i love my rb style blocks. hell im putting a 360 magnum in a 73 dart 2 door soon. MOPAR ALL THE WAY!
i have a 96 ram with the 5.9 360 in it and i have 260 thousand mile on it, i still out run most GAS trucks, out pull most GAS trucks. and sounds better than ANY GAS truck!
@topjdawg7 thats what i like about my 360 it would out run most any gas truck new or old. Especially now that most trucks r pushing over 300 - 400 hp n u can still run with or beat on a lil 235hp 5.9 !!!
actually you are wrong and write about 2 things. It depends which 5.7 Hemi you are reffering too. There are 5 different 5.7 hemis in 5 different vehicles. The one he has in his truck is either the G1 with 375lbs of torque, or the G2 with 407.
Either way its not 100 lbs of torque more. Its around 30 for the G1 and 62 for the G2. The HP is 100 tho, also the 5.9 if it had a Mopar Performance PCM can gain 30hp/torq, not to mention other mods to increase it
nice vid! i have a 97 dodge ss/t 5.9 current mods are k&n intake, throttle body spacer, hypertech max energy programmer, headers, flowmaster 40 no catalytic converter. never raced a hemi but ive had hemi's try but ive never given it a go! i do 0-60 in anywhere from 7.5-8.5 on a good day when its not hot. the problems with the 5.9 is that they really dont come to life untill like 2500-3000 rpm if that wasnt an issue they would rock!
@8omar13 Eh not all day, I have a 01 Durango with the 5.9L and my friend has a 2004 ram with the 5.7 hemi and i beat him everytime. Off the line i get him ok, any first gear punch and I win easily. Anything over 100 is fair game though. Granted he has the fully loaded quad cab laramie. Just my .02
The great thing about the 5.9 is its easy and cheap to modify unlike your hemi.. The 5.9 is a 30+ year old engine, I cant believe you even posted saying what you did you know nothing about these engines, and your 5.7 hemi BTW wouldnt stand a chance against a 5.9 with a few simple upgrades. Oh and dont say you can upgrade your 5.7 because you really cant, not for cheap
My Hemi was upgraded on the cheap and it killed a moded 5.9 truck while pulling an unloaded 2,500 lbs tandem axle trailer. He had a moded S/ST truck and my 5.7 Hemi KILLED him.
I doubt it, considering stock for stock, the 5.9 is faster in 0-60 runs which on the road is all that matters. The HP and gearing is what makes the 5.7's quicker beyond that, because the 5.9 is built for lower end torque then the 5.7 is
On street tires, spinning 305/50/20s BTW, I run 0-60 in 4.9s and ran a 13.40s @ 99 mph 1/4 mile pass. With the 2,800 stall 2.54 STR converter, 4.56 gears, and 265 grind Sidewinder cam it really didn't slow down that much pulling 2,500 lbs, 0-60 in 6.5 seconds tops.
@G3TLOOSHemi well then you are the dumbass u said it was a megacab i was clarifying to you that it was just a four door and as u can tell my 5.9 is not slow
@G3TLOOSHemi der is no bullshit in this video guy with da hemi only knows how to drive wit his foot to the floor so belive me n his is a 4x4 4 door hemi n if u really wanna see wat da 5.9 has u can come down instead
