I don't think eon's profit motive is unreasonable is so far they are a corporate entity. the problem is that political issues have been privatized by allowing both the general public and politicians to wash their hands of blame. controlling co2 emissions is really easy if the gov mandates a cap on energy consumption by fossil fuels. once such a regime is in place with some-sort of depletion protocol efficiency efforts make sense
At pntrend. We can see the thumbs but we can't change them, in the same way that we have no control over the video ratings. We've been asking for open and honest debate for some time so controlling these things is something which which we absolutely would not want to do any way. I suggest we focus on solutions instead of accusations so let's talk energy - interested what are your thoughts on safeguarding the future of energy in the UK?
Fair enough. My thoughts are: I don't support unabated coal until CCS is 100%, and even then I don't think we should be burning and using up our finite resources of fossil fuels. Aside from releasing unnecessarily huge amounts of CO2, we can't know what purpose our children may find for them. The same point applies even more strongly to our ever-depleting world supply of Uranium and other radioactive elements. The future is wind, wave, solar, possibly tidal power, including microgeneration.
Companies like Eon mislead your average Joe into thinking that they are putting their money with people who actually care about the world... When the sad reality is that they are giving their money to a business that is so corrupt that they are willing to take peoples money by fooling them into thinking they are a green alternative Its absolutely sickening....
I hope anyone working for them has a hard time explaining themselves to their grand childeren in x years!!...
I wonder if e-on realise people may actually be watching and take issue with their ridiculous PR spin?
Watching the other videos almost made me cry.... their ability to justify their actions and their greed, the huge amount of money they have to create this greenwasking tool, their inability to face up to their responsibility for climate change.
It saddens me, but at the same time I am heartened by others willing to stand and say "no, this is utter crap!"
Strangly they are actually spend hundreds of thousands of pounds promoting this so-called debate - adult to adult apparently. Of course that's a drop in the ocean that is their profits, but still, would have thought they could do something useful with it like insulate a couple of thousand homes - something which would actually do something to address the climate change they seem so scared to mention.
I'm not sure I'd even want to credit eon with calling their 'talking energy' PR offensive 'greenwash'. They don't actually even use the term climate change - making it notable only by its absence and their insistence in referring to low carbon instead. Their 'trilemma' reveals their true agenda, to make people think it is both desirable and possible to compromise on potential emission cuts in order to 'balance' energy security and affordabilty (read profitability).
Nice one Dicky. Glad to see you included a subtle nod to Workers' Climate Action and other working-class, just-transition based groups at the end there when you talked about energy production being under control of the workers and their communities. That's the only way that energy production can possibly be made more sane and ecological, against the interests of profit that individual corporations are motivated by.
E.ON UK Energy challenge Trilemma affordable affordable energy lower carbon lower carbon energy renewable energy reliable energy security of supply energy wind power wind farms Biomass coal CCS cleaner coal Gas gas storage nuclear new nuclear carbon emissions Kingsnorth stakeholders fuel poverty NGOs community Corporate responsibility Community funds Employee involvement Corporate partners
I think Richard makes really good points. E.ON are trying to hide behind slick pr, whilst doing nothing. No wonder so many people hate them, after all they are destroying our fragile eco-system.
e.on's greenwash is wearing thin thanks to those like Richard from Climate Camp who are creating real debate around the future of energy in britain. e.on are clearly not committed to a the low carbon future that we need; their priority seems to be profit over people every time.
I can't believe that our future is in the hands of companies like these.
Some spurious stuff in there

Good old Paul Golby managed to introduce the 'trilemma' without even mentioning the words 'climate change'.
Remarkable.
Great video.

Nice one chaps. Good to see e.on being exposed for the profiteering, ethically bankrupt buggers that they are. Bring on the swoop...
