Dean Vincent Barmby. The name doesn't ring any bells but the face has a familiar ring to it. Let's see, you're that mug who lives at 14 Richard Road Barnsley who drinks cheap beer and collects Nazi memorabilia.
I didn't realise the Army partook in the making of comedies for TV. It's almost as good as 'dads Army'. Though I don't think much of the pink berets, it's a bit of a girly colour, don't you think?
the Paras, alongside the Royal Marines, were the first to land on the islands at San Carlos. They won the first land battle (Goose Green) where they quite literally fought anuphill battle outnumbered 2 to 1 with very limited artillery support and won.
The Paras also fought in the bloodiest battle of the war (Mount Longdon) and also at Wireless Ridge.
Finally, the Paras were the first to march into Stanley.
@Azog150 And the Royal Marines yomped 90 miles in 3 days over swampy shit and muck to get to an area to take an important location. Keep your poncy maroon beret , I'll take a Green lid any day of the week.
@Hybridsniper2807 You can tell all the Royal Marines want to be Paratroopers.. you see a lot of Royal Marines walking round with wings.. you never see Paratroopers walk round with daggers.
That is all because, Paratroopers want to be Paratroopers, Royal Marines also.. want to be.. Paratroopers.
@ShadApMeg The Royal Marines do the Para's Job because when you want a job done properly, you get a man to do it. Not a poncy maroon beret wearing woman.
The last Aerial assualt was also undertaken by Royal Marines. By Sea, By Land and now By Air. doing everything the Para's do and more.
@Hybridsniper2807 I don't know what you're talking about 1 Para (SFSG) do loads of parachute jumps in Afghan.. they're just unofficial. The last full scale one was in 1956 obviously with Operation Musketeer.
The Royal Marines, they stood and watched, they looked so mystified.. don't worry lads, we'll sort them out, you go away and hide! PARACHUTE REGIMENT! GREEN ON, WE'RE AIRBOURNE, WE KNOW WE ARE THE BEST.
@Hybridsniper2807 obselete , you joking . they get their wings to make them able to jump out of aeroplanes not to be a para you may think thats what a para is but you'll be suprised how superior they are in air assault compared to the marines.
@Hybridsniper2807 If they're obsolete why are they still the elite of the British Army? Why has 1 Para been formed into a special forces support group? Why are they the fittest regiment in the army and the best trained? Obsolete my arse!
The bit about the Charlie G at beginning is, incredibly, true. The Royal Marines fired a load of LAW66s and a couple of MAW rounds into the Argentine corvette ARA Guerrico, disabling her main armament and causing her to list from a waterline hit. The bridge was also peppered with hundreds of rounds of 7.62 and sniper fire. Fantastic. They even had the jetty wired to blow with PE4, drums of paint, and kerosene if the Argentines tried to put a force ashore.
@snoozeterminal There is definately a time to scream and curse...but it's not all the fuckin time thats for sure. These guys are real professionals and they know how to teach. Really cool
@HoekieBets You are wrong in saying that the instructors were loaned from the SAS to make this film; some of the instructors in the film went on, (as Paras do), to join the SAS, but, at the time of the filming, they were Para PTI's, in Depot Para.
Even today, 85% of the SAS are Para/Airborne soldiers.
The Paras as a documentary was 10 times better than all the other military 'fly on the wall' documentaries. Probably because it was made by Frank Hilton, with affection and humour, having served with the Regiment himself, and his bringing his insider knowledge to the production, especially the humour!
Whereas "Commando" took itself very seriously!!!!!
your right mate they are shit hot, i went from the marines to the paras the reg lads treat you with respect and just want you to put the effort in and learn you drills you take it in more went your calm and not getting thrashed to bits
@ryko26 these and the Royal Marines Commando's, the argentinians never stood a chance... it was foolish to think otherwise, irrelevant of their numbers
@malechauvinistxy Yeah they were, they did a lot of sneaky beaky shooting up airfields and shooting down aircraft with the then new stinger, as well as getting eyes on for the lads and all that, the things you expect them to do really.
better firing position???? not there you lemon....... quality

@ShadApMeg Exactly. 1956. The Parachute regiment is obsolete. There are more Marines with wings than Para's. ..A Marine can do a Para's Job and more.
Hybridsniper2807 8 months ago
@Hybridsniper2807 Marines have wings, because they want to be Paras.. as I've said, many times before today.
