I have the epic, since mine has a manufacture defect of not vibrating, i'm not a fan. Theres something so intriguing about the G2. It could just be that I had a G1 for a year and half.
the choot takes his "PRIZED G2" to an area of full range and tries to compare it with a Vibrant and Epic4G at a low signal ! Are u bloody kidding me PIG
@MrOsamaful It's alot easier to saturate a smaller country with their few but densely populated cities with newer technology than a large country like the U.S. with many large and small cities.
I don't know about your government and telecom companies but ours are greedy pigs who want to nickle and dime us for everything.
It seems you don't fully understand the different branches of speed on T-Mobile's network in the US. Both the Vibrant and the G2 can use the HSPA network. It's simply a matter of whether each phone's software has support for the H logo. The G2 is capable of speeds on T-Mobile's "4G" network, which is HSPA+. This differs from HSPA which is capped at 7.2mbps.
@scaremengaviation It takes... chutzpah. I've been on radio, on TV, and have written hundreds of magazine articles about technology. Perhaps the chutzpah came too easily. I have a PhD in chutzpah.
I have both phones. Just received the G2 last night in the mail and haven't been able to put it down since. I've had the Vibrant for about 2 weeks now and I thought I wouldn't be able to get over how awesome the screen swipes and how pretty it is, but I did once my G2 came...The g2 is faster, & doesn't lag like my brother and I's vibrants do. The G2 also has a slide out keyboard AND UMA calling which is awesome b/c my house has bad signal! This is just my preference.
I get 6 to 9 Mbps on My G2 At Sacramento CA, By the way the H doesnt mean that the phone is on HSPA or HSPA+ network. It will show up as H even if youre on 3G network.
I don't get how you can talk about the Vibrant being slow when it had only 1 bar...then you go on to compare it to the two other phones that had near full signal...are you stupid or something? I hit 6.7mb on my Vibrant in Bellevue, WA...
@georgelewis for what its worth, neither of these carriers have actual 4g they just call it that..and in my experience WiMAx with sprint shits on HSPA+ with T-mobile, but I much rather pay less money for it so HSPA+ wins in that respect
I just sold my Vibrant today & ended up buying the G2. Couldn't be happier. Frankly, I got tired of the Vibrant's constant lag, buggy UI, and choppy all around experience. Plus, for whatever reason, I noticed an awkward blue tint on the screen, which imo makes samoled that much more overrated as a screen. It isn't the most fluid device either, anything but fluid. Waiting for Froyo? Keep waiting..had to go with the G2, and I couldn't be happier. I definitely liked the Vibrant, just way to flawed
@krazygreen I've owned the Vibrant for months and had none of the problems you're describing with the only exception being the lag which was easily fixed. You obviously had a defective unit. My friends with their iPhone 4's are even impressed with the Vibrant's screen. I'm running the 2.2 leak on it and it's great! Has a few bugs but obviously it's not final. Froyo is definately coming to the Vibrant and you'll regret it when it does. The G2 has an inferior screen, GPU and hardware is flimsy.
@njboricuaparati No way, not my cup of tea. And listen, don't get me wrong, I bought the Vibrant on launch day, defended it like no other to the detractors, proclaimed it the legitimate iPhone killer, and treated it like it was my baby (suffice to say my wife wasn't too happy about that lol), but in the end, I just needed more stability, and the G2 gives that to me. The Vibrant has a boat load of potential and the hardware is unmatched, I just needed something less flashy, and the G2 is that.
@krazygreen even better : the nexus S have gingerbread on it and its specs is very similar to galaxy S , beside the fact that it's running on vanilla android ( which imo , all android should . sense , blur , touchwiz and very much all other custom SUCKS ASS ) . there are leaked ROM for nexus S and xda devs are working hard to get it port to galaxyS =] .
@Hayabusa1300cc Yes but how does it compare to long downloads? Second look at your upload, its garbage. So if you were loading a youtube video it probably peaks at 13Mbps but drops quickly to 1 maybe 2. Side by side my outdate cliq XT stomps my managers epic(newer/better than your phone). So you probably just got lucky on a spike, another thing to consider is your ping. 223MS is garbage for sprint. Youre looking at losing a bunch of packets in the processor of dl'ing with your high speed.
@FarrSight true the only way to know for sure if you are running HSPA+(4G) is to go to settings>about phone>status>mobile network type, it should tell you what type of network you are running, as for me am running HSDPA but i get the 'H" in the notification bar instead of the 3G sign, am running android froyo 2.2.1 on the G1(rooted)
Is this video sponsored by T-mobile? Cause this thing; it's hardly an accurate comparison. He had to choose a secondary test area, where, mind you, the G2 received a strong HSPA signal, to pull numbers that barely beat an Epic with a measly one bar of 4G. I have an EVO 4G and can say from experience, that for some reason, Sprint's 4G speeds vary GREATER from one bar to two, than they do from even two bars to three.
@sinistersai4d yeah after a few days of thinking the g2 has alot more like a keyboard, flash, fast speeds when accentually the only good thing about the vibrant is the super screen lol
ow he recommends the Tmobile G2 even when the Epic 4G apparently beat it in Wirless speed and basically everythiing else in his office.. So what more do you want? All of us to go home and get a good signal for our G2s... lolmao
Wow this is the most terrible speed comparison video I have ever seen. Its obvious you wanted people to like the g2 speeds. Test all devices at the same time in both locations not just on and have all of them in clear view. look at the times they dont even match up terrible review
personally I prefer an unlocked GSM phone in case I travel... but that Epic 4G seems really nice compared to the rest of the android phones.... that physical keyboard makes it almost even better than the pure Galaxy S i9000
@truestory2006 sorry but Hspa+ can reach up to 14mbs so Wimax is not faster in anyway, Most speeds tested on wimax have not reached that speed, if you got the speed well you are one of the lucky ones, but the rest don't get those speeds, and is probably in 1 area you are getting that speed.
Well, now this isn't fair. I have the Vibrant and I get 3-6mbps (In St. Louis) outside. My signal goes waaayy down inside of course. Maybe I'm crazy....but I think this guy wants the Epic/Sprint to look better.
How can you say the G2 and the Epic 4g are comparable. If you had taken the Epic 4g to your home location, I'm sure it would have gone into the 8-10 Mbs range. This test is to trick people into thinking the G2 can even come close to a 4g phone from Sprint. Nice try.
at the end of the day, it comes down to the kind of phone nd network and whether u want gsm or cdma cos it does not matter if u r not in a competition with anyone.
if u noticed...he tested the g2 in his work buildin only gettin 800kbs and tested the epic in his work buildin n got over 3mbps! if he was outside and tested the epic he woulda got numbers over 6mbps. i have the evo n get 7mbps with only 1 bar of 4g! sprints 4g is by far faster then tmobile HSPA
The point of this is to see which one is better when they both have very good signals. It' snot fair if one is poor in one area and then awesome in another area. We got to see both the Epic and G2 do good. That being said they both were at their best.
Well, I'm glad he did it in two different locations because, its not fair if your at work and your HSPA or 4G signal sucks, and then when you go home it's great. It's very common that work buildings block signals. Now if he would of done the 4G for the Epic at the same place the G2 was doing good at then it would of been a little better, but it still shows how they both shine when they are at their best. Good review.
There's always going to be a place where one does a little better then the other. The point is seeing which one peaks higher. They both were did there best at different points. It's just a personal decision. Like T-mobile is not all that good where I am but Sprint is. Where my friend live T-mobile is very good. The point is G2 shined in one place and the Epic shined in another. Either way the HSPA is known to get more anyways. Maybe not in all locations but it is faster.
@oOLegendGuitarOo epic 4g has more features n a better sceen, bigger keyboard, however, the g2 will android updates first, its faster, n to me less cheap of a feel, the g2's keyboard is easier to type on but thats is subjected to ur own opinion
ok you need to redo this speed test and have the same test locations on all phones. you even said that you get a questionable HSPA and HSPA+ signal at your office and yet you only did one test with the vibrant at your office.
first of all the vibrant has 1bar so of course its slow now secondly it has android 2.1 unlike the g2 and thridly it has the samsung touchwiz overlay slowing it down
i just did that im in central Florida i get 5mbps and up on samsung vibrant! and i went to the tmobile store to check the G2 there is not a significant difference at all..your test is really not valid at all due to unfair advantage.
This test is absolute crap! you should do the test in an area where all the phones are in good coverage areas, also as noted before the G2 will always show the "H" at the top, whether its in an HSPA+ or regular 3G area! The vibrant from what I have seen averages around 4-5 Mbps! So next time you want to run tests make sure youre in an HSPA+ area, you can tell by going in settings>about phone>status. It will say HSDPA when its in a HSPA+ area! get your info right! BTW, my G2 averages 7Mbps!
wow this test is horrible. why not put the vibrant in a high signal area. you ruin the entire test. also 3 mb is weak anything over 3G. also it will read H no matter what you are connected to 3G, HSPA, or HSPA+
@gangsta28ny It does not rape it. i saw a written review and this guy benchmarked the vibrant vs. the tmobile and out of all those benches the vibrant still won by a little. oh and also the tmobile has android 2.2 which makes performance faster. so yeah hummingbird is still better. and has a better screen
Someone help me with this buying decision please! The G2 only has 800 mhz processor while the Vibrant has a 1 Ghz processor. Yet the G2 is faster connection with HSPA. Does the processor speed make a big difference with the apps?
@ErisRivera5 no its not. get ur facts right. the only things the vibrant is better at are the screen colors, gaming performance, slimness, camera but the g2's got a flash, design is arguable n so is weight. the g2 has speed, data connection, screen is not that bad compared to the vibrant, battery, keyboard, multitasking, multitouch, list goes on
@Theobieze Umm guy... The Vibrant has a bigger battery (1500 vs 1300), it can multitask of course and does multitouch. The G2 really isn't that great of a phone. The Vibrant gets Quarant scores of over 2500 while the G2 gets about 1500 and that's running Froyo. Vibrant doesn't even have Froyo yet but still gets better ratings.
The only thing that the G2 wins over the Vibrant is a keyboard and that is by default. I would also say stock Android is good, but they have locked it down too much.
@kangxi ummm no it doesnt have better battery than the G2 yu forget its clocked at 800mhz and that saves alot of battery much more than the vibrant which is clocked at 1ghz and hummingbird processor waste way more battery get your facts straight lol yu think higher numbers matters so much wen they dont
@kangxi yea the vibrants got a bigger battery n thats sad that it gets the same talk time and only half an hour more standby. I never said the vib cant multitask/touch its just not as good, the vib cleary come fourth in those tests when the g2 is in it, n yea the vib doesnt hav 2.2 n it wont until prob nov or dec, they way samsung updates ther phones, n the g2 or the nexus will be the first to get 3.0, where will samsung be then who knows, but prob the evo n droid x/2/incredible will be next
@Theobieze well you do know that the g2 is in froyo so that helps it alot and yeah although its faster in data connection if they were to put them both on wifi the vibrant would win and they battery isn't better the g2 has 1300 and the vibrant has a 1500 battery and the multitouch isn't smoother than my vibrant my vibrant is just as smooth as my friends iphone 4 and the list goes on and I posted this comment on my vibrant in no time got it done with swype
@ErisRivera5 yes i know it has froyo, who doesnt. with wifi that maybe the case, but its sad that it gets the same talk time and only half an hour more standby than the g2, iphone 4 sucks ( no offense to apple lovers, thats just my opinion) . swype is also on the g2 n on the g2's swype, there is a speech to text button too.
@Theobieze smartphoneenvy did a review on its channel and its website and rhee vibrant one the g2 won in the benchmark test cus of froyo but if the vibrant had froyo it would win and on his review the vibrant won and it was an obvious win so the vibrant is better and will be better in graphics than the g2, end of discussion, end of discussion he said it himself and he would know he actually has both of the phones
@stmpoodle Let me see if I can clarify this for you. One of the responses you got was completely wrong.
The processors are like apples and oranges. The clock speeds are just a nonsensical number used to make sales. The 800Mhz processor in the G2 is faster than the 1Ghz processor in the Vibrant. The proc. in the G2 is the newest architecture, and uses the fastest components. It uses less power, and has more potential. It's also more "optimised" for the phone. The GPU is the same, as well. G2>Vib
@stmpoodle the g2 has a faster connection but you better hope you live in an area that has a good signal, if not then that great connection was a waste for you. but i think the g2 only has the hspa+ going for it. other than that i like the vibrant. yes the g2 has a flash but the same samsung has night mode and it is as good as flash.
@lanceealy a lot of tmoble phones run on hspa. hspa is tmobile's basically refurbished 3g network but the g2 is the only phone to run on tmobile's hspa+ network. im guessing his vibrant just stayed on 3g n didnt connect or find hspa or it wasnt updated or sumthing
my g2 in southern cal would pull 8mbps

@confoundb4 it compares great to long downloads.
given the server has bandwidth, twice have sustained a true

gives me these speeds. Speeds vary hour to hour given network traffic.
Since 11.8.10 I have ditched my EVO for the EPIC.
Hands down better in every department for me, even faster on Android 2.1
vs Evo on 2.2 (Currently I am using 2.2 beta leak and is even more fast.
Ping also varies, I have gotten lower than 130ms at times.

T-mobile HSPA is one of the fastest things I've seen in my life. lol
The HSPA where I live is Atlanta, Ga. I live 35 minutes from the city, The G2 got 5mbs.

HSPA+ is what the g2 runs on HSPA is just normal 3g (all 3g tmobile phones have HSPA)
raydar670 1 year ago
i get over 1k kbps on my vibrant on 3g

The point of this is to see which one is better when they both have very good signals. It' snot fair if one is poor in one area and then awesome in another area. We got to see both the Epic and G2 do good. That being said they both were at their best.
Nate88Music 1 year ago 8
@Nate88Music the epic is only 2.1 and the g2 was at 2.2 still unfair
fowskate 1 year ago
Well, I'm glad he did it in two different locations because, its not fair if your at work and your HSPA or 4G signal sucks, and then when you go home it's great. It's very common that work buildings block signals. Now if he would of done the 4G for the Epic at the same place the G2 was doing good at then it would of been a little better, but it still shows how they both shine when they are at their best. Good review.
Nate88Music 1 year ago 2
@Nate88Music no it doesnt he clearly had full bars on tmobile but he didnt on Sprint wtf this video sucks and needs to be done correctly
truestory2006 1 year ago
@truestory2006

@truestory2006
Also I have an Epic and I am saying this.

desire z (g2) or epic 4g which is better?
oOLegendGuitarOo 1 year ago
@oOLegendGuitarOo epic 4g has more features n a better sceen, bigger keyboard, however, the g2 will android updates first, its faster, n to me less cheap of a feel, the g2's keyboard is easier to type on but thats is subjected to ur own opinion
Theobieze 1 year ago
ok you need to redo this speed test and have the same test locations on all phones. you even said that you get a questionable HSPA and HSPA+ signal at your office and yet you only did one test with the vibrant at your office.

Hey bob that is not HSPA +
there are videos of the vibrant 3G hitting over 5mb with speed test
showstopper8011 1 year ago
first of all the vibrant has 1bar so of course its slow now secondly it has android 2.1 unlike the g2 and thridly it has the samsung touchwiz overlay slowing it down
notanotherkid 1 year ago
Hey Bob the Cell Phone Professor, just because the G2 says H doesn't mean it's connected to a HSPA network.

i guess this all is going to be on personal preference...either way everyone is running android.

epic 4 g is throttled at 800 mhz(even tho its advertised for 1 ghz)
drbaltazar 1 year ago
i just did that im in central Florida i get 5mbps and up on samsung vibrant! and i went to the tmobile store to check the G2 there is not a significant difference at all..your test is really not valid at all due to unfair advantage.
Androidandmore101 1 year ago
@Androidandmore101 dude I got 4mbps on my sister's vibrant. I got 11mbps on my g2
gangsta28ny 1 year ago
This a terrible test, i mean sure the g2 will almost always win but at least do the test in the same area
ItachiUchiha0609 1 year ago
This test is absolute crap! you should do the test in an area where all the phones are in good coverage areas, also as noted before the G2 will always show the "H" at the top, whether its in an HSPA+ or regular 3G area! The vibrant from what I have seen averages around 4-5 Mbps! So next time you want to run tests make sure youre in an HSPA+ area, you can tell by going in settings>about phone>status. It will say HSDPA when its in a HSPA+ area! get your info right! BTW, my G2 averages 7Mbps!
ticarym 1 year ago
wow this test is horrible. why not put the vibrant in a high signal area. you ruin the entire test. also 3 mb is weak anything over 3G. also it will read H no matter what you are connected to 3G, HSPA, or HSPA+
sayanythingrock 1 year ago
i have the hd2 on tmobile and i get 6mb download and 1.2 upload
lanceealy 1 year ago
Okay, how about you test the vibrant in your home like you did with the G2?
That isn't fair, When I was downtown, the internet on 3G was dead fast. I have the Vibrant, when I am home, I just connect to Wifi, even faster then.
DarthProlif 1 year ago 2
The only reason the G2 is better sometimes with graphics is cause of 2.2
MyHD2AndOthers 1 year ago
@MyHD2AndOthers its a faster processor. the 800mhz rapes the 1ghz
gangsta28ny 1 year ago
@gangsta28ny It does not rape it. i saw a written review and this guy benchmarked the vibrant vs. the tmobile and out of all those benches the vibrant still won by a little. oh and also the tmobile has android 2.2 which makes performance faster. so yeah hummingbird is still better. and has a better screen
MyHD2AndOthers 1 year ago

why did you test the samsung Galaxy S at home too?
dst7ssa 1 year ago
Someone help me with this buying decision please! The G2 only has 800 mhz processor while the Vibrant has a 1 Ghz processor. Yet the G2 is faster connection with HSPA. Does the processor speed make a big difference with the apps?
stmpoodle 1 year ago
@stmpoodle
the g2 processor is better than the vibrant processor, g2 is definitely the best bet here
ThEuNdYiNg1 1 year ago
@stmpoodle yes and the vibrant is faster although the g2 is better in data the vibrant is better all around with apps and tasking
ErisRivera5 1 year ago
@ErisRivera5 no its not. get ur facts right. the only things the vibrant is better at are the screen colors, gaming performance, slimness, camera but the g2's got a flash, design is arguable n so is weight. the g2 has speed, data connection, screen is not that bad compared to the vibrant, battery, keyboard, multitasking, multitouch, list goes on
Theobieze 1 year ago 2
@Theobieze Umm guy... The Vibrant has a bigger battery (1500 vs 1300), it can multitask of course and does multitouch. The G2 really isn't that great of a phone. The Vibrant gets Quarant scores of over 2500 while the G2 gets about 1500 and that's running Froyo. Vibrant doesn't even have Froyo yet but still gets better ratings.
The only thing that the G2 wins over the Vibrant is a keyboard and that is by default. I would also say stock Android is good, but they have locked it down too much.
kangxi 1 year ago
@kangxi ummm no it doesnt have better battery than the G2 yu forget its clocked at 800mhz and that saves alot of battery much more than the vibrant which is clocked at 1ghz and hummingbird processor waste way more battery get your facts straight lol yu think higher numbers matters so much wen they dont
dragonballzfan809 1 year ago 2
@kangxi yea vibrant gets 2500 but its 1ghz vs 800mhz wait till it gets overclocked to 1ghz and yu wil see it on par with the vibrant
dragonballzfan809 1 year ago
@kangxi yea the vibrants got a bigger battery n thats sad that it gets the same talk time and only half an hour more standby. I never said the vib cant multitask/touch its just not as good, the vib cleary come fourth in those tests when the g2 is in it, n yea the vib doesnt hav 2.2 n it wont until prob nov or dec, they way samsung updates ther phones, n the g2 or the nexus will be the first to get 3.0, where will samsung be then who knows, but prob the evo n droid x/2/incredible will be next
Theobieze 1 year ago
@Theobieze well you do know that the g2 is in froyo so that helps it alot and yeah although its faster in data connection if they were to put them both on wifi the vibrant would win and they battery isn't better the g2 has 1300 and the vibrant has a 1500 battery and the multitouch isn't smoother than my vibrant my vibrant is just as smooth as my friends iphone 4 and the list goes on and I posted this comment on my vibrant in no time got it done with swype
ErisRivera5 1 year ago
@ErisRivera5 yes i know it has froyo, who doesnt. with wifi that maybe the case, but its sad that it gets the same talk time and only half an hour more standby than the g2, iphone 4 sucks ( no offense to apple lovers, thats just my opinion) . swype is also on the g2 n on the g2's swype, there is a speech to text button too.
Theobieze 1 year ago
@Theobieze smartphoneenvy did a review on its channel and its website and rhee vibrant one the g2 won in the benchmark test cus of froyo but if the vibrant had froyo it would win and on his review the vibrant won and it was an obvious win so the vibrant is better and will be better in graphics than the g2, end of discussion, end of discussion he said it himself and he would know he actually has both of the phones
ErisRivera5 1 year ago
@stmpoodle Let me see if I can clarify this for you. One of the responses you got was completely wrong.
The processors are like apples and oranges. The clock speeds are just a nonsensical number used to make sales. The 800Mhz processor in the G2 is faster than the 1Ghz processor in the Vibrant. The proc. in the G2 is the newest architecture, and uses the fastest components. It uses less power, and has more potential. It's also more "optimised" for the phone. The GPU is the same, as well. G2>Vib
SenoreQueso 1 year ago 2
@stmpoodle the g2 has a faster connection but you better hope you live in an area that has a good signal, if not then that great connection was a waste for you. but i think the g2 only has the hspa+ going for it. other than that i like the vibrant. yes the g2 has a flash but the same samsung has night mode and it is as good as flash.

@lanceealy really on vibrant it shows H ??
lazyboi789 1 year ago
@lazyboi789 yes really
lanceealy 1 year ago
@lanceealy a lot of tmoble phones run on hspa. hspa is tmobile's basically refurbished 3g network but the g2 is the only phone to run on tmobile's hspa+ network. im guessing his vibrant just stayed on 3g n didnt connect or find hspa or it wasnt updated or sumthing
