This isn't a hack. It's a common thing that the internet can do. You can do it anywhere really (just not with the same address bar thingie). Facebook, Funnyjunk, 4chan, myspace are a few examples of where you could do it.

It is not a hack really. All he is doing is running that javascript(actually in IE you would be using a JSCRIPT parser), and the way IE works it runs it on the current page. This script is very general, try it on any page.
