  • Get me trolley!

  • In memory of those people that were in the train -.-'

  • DISLIKES?! WTF?! HOW CLD THAT BE POSSIBLE?!

  • 0:39 pushy pushy

  • It's too bad Winsor never got around to finishing this cartoon.

That said, i am pretty dissapointed at how crude this short is, especially in contrast to how masterfully done the first Gertie short was.

  • I like the original better.

  • This was not very well thought out, was it?

  • 1:13 - 1:38 Go Gertie! Go Gertie! :D

  • 1:11 - 1:38

Go Gertie! Go Gertie! She is so cute. :D

  • wasn't the first gertie the dinosaur made in 1914?

  • don't encourage the guy below me. PLEASE! if I see him get thumbs up I'll EXPLODE!

  • 9 people don't know what cartoons are

  • ahhh its granys jurasuc park

  • I always prefer traditional animation over computer-generated animation because Windsor McCay did like over 10,000 papers just to make this animation! it takes a lot of work and patience to do that but with computer animation, that can be done in 3 years (the year varies for CGI)

  • Wow. I'm only familiar with the original. I didn't know he made more. Thanks for the upload.

  • Funnily enough, Gertie reminds me of my family's dog: unknowing of her size, innocent and on the whole, lovable.

  • Lawl what was she doing with that tail...?

  • lol based on how she was in her first appearance in 1914 I'm surprised she didn't eat the train

<3 <3 love Gertie lol shes so cute!

  • WOW - 1921! WALTER LANTZ

    WE MISS U!

  • oooo thats soo cute!!! xxxxx

  • Who knew life as a dinosaur was so hectic? Hehe I loved her "life of the party" moves.

  • 0:33 Gertie sucking on her tail like a baby bottle. Gertie so cute

  • Brilliant!

  • This is awesome. Why are cartoons not like this anymore?

  • cuz of Japanese people with there naruto and others animes

  • @DukworthTurnpike because this is only good as an experiment and technically pointless by today's standards and everyone who upvoted this comment is an asshole

  • @RaymondoPerson I find it far more likely that you sir are the asshole, not the people who think that Gertie the Dinosaur is still awesome.

  • @DukworthTurnpike

There is that ad hominem mister

  • @SwedxSimon02 This is true, I appoligize. My point is that thinking cartoons such as Gertie the Dinosaur (which paved the way for all animation that is around today) are not up to "todays standards" and are "technically pointless" are awesome, doesnt make you an asshole. However, over analyzing a simple comment about how awesome Gertie the Dinosaur is and deeming people assholes just because they can still apreciate a classic, in turn, makes him the arsehole.

  • @DukworthTurnpike I'd watch this over Pokemon anyday

  • I GOT GERTIE ROLL'D.

  • Gertie is so adorable, I want it <3

  • una verdadera joya, crei que no lo encontraria... mil gracias!!!

  • Thank you!

  • Dude, where did you find this? Plus, thanks this helped with ma reportz :D

  • ??? ok ????

  • gertie!! this animation is fantastic^_^

  • In 1921, McCay planned to make a second animated film featuring Gertie, titled Gertie on Tour. The film would have seen Gertie visiting New York and Washington, D.C., bouncing on the Brooklyn Bridge and attempting to eat the Washington Monument, among other scenes. The film was never completed, and exists only in fragments and concept sketches

  • A plagiarization of Gertie, from roughly 1915, was distributed for many years, incorrectly identified as McCay's film. Donald Crafton suggests that this other Gertie may have been created by Bray Productions, based on its graphical style. [2]

McCay's son Robert, along with Disney animator Richard Huemer, recreated the original vaudeville performance for the Disneyland television program in 1955.

  • Just to set the record straight, this clip is GERTIE ON TOUR, a sequel to the 1914 GERTIE THE DINOSAUR. This one was made between 1918 and 1921, and uses cels, where the original was done completely on white paper, with the background retraced on each drawing.

  • gertie rox!

  • Hahahah, Hello, Gertie!

  • Wow! Amazaing how far cartoons have evolved since the very first cartoon!!! (^__^)

  • being the second animated film in history, it was pretty amazing back in 1914

  • Don't make em like they used to.

  • gertie FTW

  • Gertie for the win! Pure intensity.

  • gertie rules

  • i gave 5 star cause we wouldent have things like family guy today without this

    :P

  • The film history nice the cartoon which started the era nice but who are the orchestrators who made this modern silent music?

  • There was usually a pianist or organist hired to play during movie performances. They commonly had a book of short snippets of music reflecting different themes (suspense, action, romance, etc.) other times they just improvised.

  • I wish they finished this, it would have had gertie jumping on a suspension bridge like a trampoline from what i've read.

  • It goes from cute to sad really quickly when you discover Gertie appears to be a failed dinosaur dancer.

  • Think it might be like a toddler sucking his thumb?

  • Actually it's because Gertie got here tail zapped by the electic cables.

  • @robweeeeeee3 did u not see her burn her tail on the power line? :l

  • Wonderful classic animation.

  • Clearly warm blooded behavior :D

  • Great stuff. Too bad they never finished this one.

  • Fantastic stuff from the early days of animation, 86 years ago.

  • I want one!!!

  • weird.

  • how did u get this? the film wasn't even animated yet!

  • WHY U Downrate this? this is winsor mccay early genius..

  • hey you retard yank..this winsor mccay early genius of animation...grow a brain

  • its not a 'tailjob'... didn't anyone notice it burned its tail on a powerline? The intelligence portrayed on youtube is reprehensible.

  • yeah its true i agree ;)

  • @yamamato44 Lol i just watched it for the first time today and i was like WTF?! HER TAIL EXPLODED?!

lol didnt see the power line

  • Ah, what people were amused by in those days... XD

  • amazing, i have only ever seen stills of Gertie, so to see a full length film is fabulous.

  • windsormccay was really ahead of many times, animation before disney, and living breathing dancing dinosaurs before spielberg, by lengths! 93 years ago! This is so ancient it can be used as proof of the actual truth of evolutiontheory! Intelligent design eat ur heart out! ;-)

  • This was actually pretty funny.

  • I actually thought that was quite funny! You don't think the cutting between the 'train shots' was a little Green Wingesque? Or perhaps the bizarre party flashback a little Simpsons? I just thought it was a great animation, very skillful but quite silly at the same time, no harm right?

  • It was sucking it's tail because it got zapped by the electrics in the railway system and it hurt, plus an animal (homosapien or otherwise) stimulating themself is not cause for alarm.

  • this is fucking stupid

  • do you think you can send me this video? i need it for a project? :D thank you

  • Sadly, there's stuff missing from the clip. Unless it's supposed to skip like that... It's nice anyway :)

  • Is Gertie an Apatosaurus or Brontosaurus?

  • Apatosaur there is no such thing as a Brontosaur.

  • well in some way there were, they just changed the name back in 19-somthing

  • this is great! thanks for posting it. ignoring the actual first animations ever made, this is a treat to find on youtube.

  • LOOOOOOL What the FUCK!!! this is the coolest dinosaur ever. given itself a tail blowjob and acting like a retarted idiot :D this is so cool!

  • hhaha the tail bj was clasic

  • OMG at about 34 look what its doing with its tail...

  • 0:30-0:34 is XXX

  • BORING...

  • I don't know how people can stand that ongoing loop.

  • loco, muy loco, yo pensaba que era otro el video

  • McCay is a genius! Thank you so much for posting, this is the only one!

  • That was great! I've loved Winsor McCay's art since I first encountered it some 25 years ago. Thanks so much!

  • This is Gertie on Tour made 1921 not 1914 as some hear have said....

great Cartoon... love it.. Winsor McCay was realy on of a kind in his time...

I wonder how his stuff whuld be if he lived nowdays...

  • Thanks for the info. I updated the vide description.

  • No problemski...

  • it's NOT the first gertie! the ol' gertrudes was totally white im 1914!

  • fantástico e brilhante

  • I don't think this was the very first one. I thought in the original Gertie they hadn't used cels yet, so the background was redrawn for every single frame. This is very obviously done with cels. Still, cool to see one of the earliest cartoon characters.

  • what's a cel?

  • "Cel" is a term for celluloid acetate, a clear sheet in which pictures were drawn. This way, one would not have to draw the background over and over again, as McCay did with the original Gertie in 1914. Nowadays, "cel animation" usually simply refers to the process of traditional hand-drawn animation.

  • Look at dem dere purty movin' pictures! :D

  • 1914 people - This was made over 93 years ago! Incredible to be watching it digitally almost a century later, and it is still cool.

  • Thanks!!!

    McCay is incredible.

    What a genius!

  • Yay for the classics! Thanks for putting this up, after reading about it it's awesome to be able to watch it.

  • just so you know, not the original gertie the dinosaur you probably read about on wikipedia.

  • How cute! :D

  • great
