  • @ashtonnesmith Why you would judge a woman on her behind and her beauty when there's so much you could look forward to about an African-American woman? I'm 13 years old but I know that you don't judge women by their beauty always.

  • 2:36-2:50 is hilarious. Had me rolling.

  • @mrmartywaring you are absolutely right. This is what our culture needs. Black women need to be uplifted by the successes of those who came before them. BET doesn't promote positivity. The movies they displayed and the shows they have only promote black people I'm the entertainment field. BET is a joke. This society needs to see family values, goals, education, self worth and know where and who they come from.

  • this show had some very beautiful black women on this show. Denise, Whitley, Jaleesa, Kim, Freddie, Charmaine, Kinu, Gina, Lena and all the others that appeared on this show.. Even with the older women such as Lettie, Dean Davenport, Marion (Whitley's mom) and Adele (Dwayne's mom). This show captured the essence and different shades of the Black woman.

  • "When the Saints go marching in...Right on innnn...not out but innnn!!!"

  • I love the poem recited by Kim at the end! "Ego Trippin"~ Nikki Giovanni

  • I don't understand why she thought she looked like that. Kim is beautiful and shouldn't think that just because she is darker, that she's not as beautiful as Whitley. Beauty is a wide variety. My daughter is very dark and I tell her that she is the most beautiful little girl everyday. I want her to know that she is just as beautiful as the light skinned little girl.

  • @sanggurl16 Your complexion doesn't determine whether or not you're beautiful

  • @tatendamuranda That's not what I meant at all.

  • Can you upload "I Should Die Before I Wake" episode

  • when I first saw this episode it shocked and disturbed me that some African-Americans would enslave their own people. Its proof that a lot of times,History is much nastier than it first seems. compare the bible stories you read as a child to what is in the actual Bible

  • @TheSlickAndroid but most of them were buying back family members or freeing them

  • @JaielleAmara true, but there were still some who just wanted slave labor.

  • gina does that same song every time there is in an audition for a show LOL

  • Shake that booty ho ! Redbone wid a fat ass. Show me dat thong !

  • "she's black, she's fat, she's nappy' WOW gotta love Mr.Gaines

  • Ooooh dem good ol daays on tha plantation lmao

  • Sing a black girl song lol

  • Whitley aka jasmine guy was really pretty back in her days she's looks totally different now!

  • @envymeforgood unfortunately . yes she does .

  • Fear...of WHAT!

  • This show is BRILLIANT. I wish there were more shows like this. The characters are hilarious, the storyline relateable...I can't wait to graduate and go to an HBCU! I've been watching it for a couple of years now and have fallen in love with it! And Whitley rmeinds me of myself! ;D

  • @tyra1108 this is one of those rare situations when a spin-off is better than the show it spun off of(in this case,The Cosby Show),although that show isn't bad either.

  • @TheSlickAndroid AGREED!

  • WOW! Kim Reiss thinks she's Mammy; ironically, she looks like her; MAMMY IS HOT!!!

  • Yep. Thursday 12.5.1991! 8:30/7:30c! Real Talk!

  • A Different World mane me wanna hang myself!

  • @brittanyreagan1 Dwayne went out with another woman

  • jina sing that song for everything. lol

  • Did I somehow miss the episode or two before this? What happened, why did they break up?

  • oh, this was when Jada was still political, still down. before she married Will, then sold out to the illuminati.

  • @te4888

    lol.

  • @te4888 whaaaaaaaaaaat ?? who said ?

  • LOVE a diff'rent world...this might have been one of the best episodes EVER THANKS BROWN SUGAR

  • I love Whitley's voice. :3 x

  • I love the turn Whitley does when she says how else would I look. For Colored Girls is a wonderful adaptation. I really want to read and see originals. Mr. Gaines is so wise I love him.

  • Gina's always singing "Oh When The Saints Go Marchin in" NOT OUT BUT IN!!! XD

  • Please pray for Aretha Franklin as she may have cancer...it is only a five to 10 percent survival rate. She sung the theme song of ADW as you can hear in this episode, before BIIM.

  • "now i know why colored girls consider suicide..." LOL love it... ah, this was my show... its a damn shame how the network just forgot about it after "cosby" ended and it just disappeared w/o any fan fare after its 6th (and IMO) best season...

  • @GETOSUPASTAR hey honey! i see you on the dominique series comment area...just saying hi ": p

  • o ok...@miamivicepastels83 hey bak @ u....

  • Kim is so beautiful and she's a very qood actress !

  • Who would have thought that the stage play "For Colored Girls" that Freddie was acting out then would actually become an awesome movie now...I encourage all "BLACK WOMEN" to go and watch this movie!

  • wow looking at these comments seems black American kids act like being successful is the moon. life aint that hard try going to a third world country, seems like slavery is still in the mind for yall

  • i want a sachel like dwayne's

  • i can honestly say that growing up watching A Different World and The Cosby Show made me want to attend an HBCU! and i today am a very proud Fiskite =)

  • boy, gina clearly love when the saint go marching in.

    wwwDOTlovablefashionsDOTcom

  • God I miss this show. I'm just glad they were "allowed" to do subjects like this. It's very rare now days to see black people do something else besides laughing and cracking jokes. This was one of THE best shows on television. Bravo to the cast producers directors!

  • i was glad when they got rid of lisa bonet..i could not watch this show when she was on it.i still skip all of the first season starring her.

  • Its strange that Kim played this role...since now she looks totally different.

She has bleached her skin..lost weight and wears colored contacts...she looks much different than she does now. Google her if u dont believe me.

  • @cutecherryangel13

Has she? I've seen her recently and she looked pretty much the same.

  • this is so cool, cree summer is in this!!!

  • --->STILL laughing ROFL BWAHAHAHAAAA----> I can't believe that girl said "right on iiin not out but iiinnn" LOL (You guys I am really hurting myself laughing) lol

  • give me dwaynes back pack

  • Whitley (or Jasmine Guy) was and is still HOT!

  • LOL!! We know why colored girls considered suicide

  • i like it when Kinberley gets all gangsta

  • This is one of ADW's most powerful and thought provoking episodes. It is such a shame that there are no shows like this currently on television.

  • @DaniB0626 -YuP !

  • I can't stand Freddy!!!

  • @SunriseSub What? I thought Freddy was hillarious with her hippyish self:)!!

  • @eracism09 Lol...she was just out of place and awkward, I liked her character better after they all graduated, the sophisticated woman she became. She was annoying tho.

  • this show was so smart an clever shows today aren't made half as well an its a shame we going backwards,, im scarred for this new world*(

  • to that person on another page asked me"is this a spin-off of the cosby show?"yes this is but not here and now

  • A LOT OF THE CAST MEMBERS WERE IN SKOOL daze

  • Cree Summer, Charnele Brown, and Jasmine Guy are three of the most beautiful women ever.

  • FREDDIE IS BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • this video go hard

  • she sang (when the saints go marchin in ) on the episode where en vouge was the guest but it never gets old its just so darn funny

  • Freddie was my girl!!!! LMBO!!!!!!

  • Gina saying she looks like Lena Horne... that is some powerful stuff right there in a subtle package. Gina looks nothing like Lena Horne, but too many black women wish they had light skin and European features... this was a very intelligent show.

  • @cometrally very interesting! great mind for picking up on that! I love A Different World, one of the main reasons why I chose to attend an HBCU!

  • Mr Gains is one of my favorite characters.

  • oh them good ole days on the plantation lmao, he said that hella loud

  • i love when gina performs when the saints go marching in

  • When the saints.. go marchin in... right on iiiiin... not out but in....

  • @bratbor it's funni cuz she sings that same song in an episode called im a star...

  • @bratbor

Gina was the only funny one from the new cast of 'A Diff'rent World', imo.

  • OMG!!! When Dwayne And Whitley Were Talking To Each Other At 8:55-9:10 My Stomach Had Butterflies!!!

  • ppl dont understand how this show opened my world up. i was a little girl and seeing these smart, good looking black kids in college changed my life. its the best show ive ever seen. brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cindyvette, I strongly agree. I loved A Different World; it is my favorite show. It had a lot of meaning back in the day and still now. It will be airing on TV One, January 25, 2010. I am so excited!

  • Indeed.

  • this and the cosby show, showed America that Black people weren't just thugs and rappers, i.e. ez E. I had a white friend tell me, these shows were fantasies. I said to him, my uncle makes half a mill a year, married to my aunt who makes nearly that much, my other uncle was a ceo at GM, other aunt a judge. He shut up.

  • @cindyvette1 Thank you! After The Cosby Show & A Different World era ended black entertainment on tv went severely downhill afterward...we lost a generation of youth because of it.

  • A Different World is starting on TV1 on Jan. 25th y'all.

  • R U SERIOUS ? DANG, I DON'T HAVE TVOne THO...IO DIGITAL CABLEVISION DOESN'T PROVIDE IT.

  • nor does Dish Network, but it wont be 4 long.... when we had comcast they changed their programs like every month.

  • Kim wasn't fat just thick

  • LMAO @ Gina "Well I know I wouldn't be in that group!" Classic

  • yall notice tatiana Thumbertz or sumthin in the intro right next to dwayne from the way you make me feel :)

  • I was so thinking "That girl looks familiar" but I didn't know from where...good eye!

  • @SocailQueen yeah Thumbtzen I believe her name is :)

  • If you want A Different World to come on tv go to tvoneonline (website) and vote for it in the lower right hand corner.

  • i luv Whitley!! Shes 1 ov my all

    tyme Favorites...

  • Winnifred's rendtion of "For Black Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enough"? Hilarious. Not to mention Whitley's response: "Well, now we know why black girls consider suicide." Just hilarious.

  • "she's black, she's fat, she's nappy" i so didnt want to laugh when mr. gaines said that...but he was keepin it real as he always does...people say things all the time and dont realize how it can effect others

  • Teach Teach!!! This show was a blessing and made it a reality for some who could not conceive of a higher education and the reappropiation of oppressive symbols.

  • OOOO-OOOP TO SOROR IN THE RED SWEATER!

  • no gina did that song for the audition to be in ron's band

  • oh, that's the episode with en vouge

  • this eppy is gud

  • "Oh when the saints go marching in...Right on in...Not out but in!!!" Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!

  • I have been looking for this episode!

  • damn! gina was fine!..i liked her dancing!

  • "Right on in...not out but in! Gina is hilarious!!

  • LOLOLOL. true!!!

  • This is one of my favorite episodes.. thank you so much for posting it!

  • She sang that same song during the En Vogue episode. LOL

  • and she had them same step boots on hahahaha

  • This was a good episode.

  • This has to be my absolute favourite show off all time. Deep, but yet soooo funny! Which is very rare in the crap they call tv these days!

  • Gina was hilarious- I remember her "When the Saints..." performance even today!

  • You're right. He hired Debbie Allen to produce the show because, one, it filmed in Hollywood and the Cosby show was filming in New York so he couldn't be both places, and two, because she went to Howard University and he wanted her to use her experiences there to make Hillman appear to be a real life college. The first season there were a LOT of white people going to an HBCU in the south. When Debbie Allen came on to produce the second season, the white people disappeared! LOL!

  • thanks for posting! This is one of my favorite episodes. I can't wait until the series comes out on DVD.

  • thanks for posting i love this show and all the actors;-)

  • Good Play..

  • i must say this is a good show and episode and i love the mamy and the meanings she has with the black slave culture. my beloved grandmother has ton and tons of those mammies and other black slave figurines throughout her home, for some odd reason i want them so bad and i dont know why but i just do.from old records to mammy and her friends i want and i am only 26!

  • "Not out but in"... Hilarious!

  • "shes fat, shes black, shes nappy" LOL woooooooow!

  • That's the only issue I have with this episode. They had to "fatten" Kim up in the big baggy tops and baggy sweaters... because Charnele Brown, the Kim actress, isn't a big girl. She just has hips. She played the exercise instructor in the second season of Martin just 2 years after this and she was crazy thin.

  • @librababe93 LMAO

  • They don't make shows like this anymore! Thanks for posting this great episode. =)

  • Iecho mizzbrent's comment, this episode inspired me!

  • this is my favorite episode of a different world!!!!!!!

  • This show was the reason enrollment at a HBCU was at an all time high during the 90s.

  • Let's just put it out there, that A Different World had the BEST opening themes ever!!!

"ya know i's a been meanin to!"

  • Right on innnnnnn...not out, but innnnnnnn!

PROUD TO BE AN HBCU ALUM!!!!

  • lmao Gina did that lil number 3 times throughout the show haha..i loved it everytime

  • Shaw U. Here!!!! GO HBCU!

  • they just dont make sitcoms like this anymore its a damn shame gotta love this show

  • Well you should write bill cosby and tell him to make more shows like this cause the only shows now is so called reality shows that really ain't reality anyway.

  • "When the Saints Go Marching In" is forever Gina's song, LOL!!

  • Best sitcom hands down!!!

Should still be on tv spinning off every 4 years!!!!
