You put it pretty mild. I don`t know any child that would do anything so idiotic intentionally. The way I see it there is no suspension big or long enough for this act. A skate with a 200# man in it is a dangerous weapon. The fact that he did it in front of the refs and tried to be slick about it shows he does not have the mental capacity to be playing this sport nor should he have the privilage ever again.
Those of you who are calling this "no big deal" are ignoring the facts that A) the footage has been slowed down, and B) he was stomping down with the blade of his skate. Protective gear or not, it doesn't take a genius to see that this is a dangerous thing to do. The fact that he went so far out of his way to do it makes it that much worse.

Someone tell me how Chris Simon is still playing in the NHL? This man must've taken too many blows to the head because over the course of his career he has tried to severely injure repeated players. You would've thought after he tried to axe Holliweg(sp?)'s head off that he'd be done. But no...Good ol' Gary Bettman lets him back in and he tries to sever crucial tendons and muscles alike. The sad part about the whole thing is that Chris Simon is a talented hockey player - or at least WAS. He won't be back next year - that's a guarantee - no other team in the NHL would touch him with a 10 foot pole and you can be sure that Ted Nolan's defence for him has ran out. Ted is just the coach and the owners for sure have had enough. I wonder what makes guys like Simon tick. Playing in the NHL is a gift and he just pissed it away.

ivebeen playing hockey for 15 years and this is the most cowardly act i've ever seen. NO SUSPENSION SHOULD EVER DEPEND ON HOW HURT SOMEONE GETS. If that were true and you high sticked someone on accident and took their eye out should you get 20 games because the person lost their eye? He deliberately tripped ruutu when the linseman was holding him out of sight and stomped on his leg. He should be gone for the rest of the season or forever, whether ruutu missed a shift or a whole season.

Rutuu wasn't injured and Hollweg had a cut, but nothing serious. I think people forget that, Neither time did a player even miss a shift. You have to step back and ask how bad was it? I have no problem with the suspensions, but he hasn't actually hurt anyone.

It's not the point, the reason there's no major injuries is sheer luck. 6 inches higher on Rutuu, he severs his Achilles tendon, 3 inches higher on Hollweg, and Hollweg is dead. It has to stop, and no matter how many times you suspend this douchebag, he's not going to learn, that's pretty obvious at this point. He needs to be banned.

The NHL really has to step up. Gary Bettman is doing shit. Bertuzzi broke Steve Moore's neck and now he's in a wheelchair unable to play hockey. Next thing we know, Betuzzi is playing hockey and on Team Canada while Moore is watching him. The NHL really has to reinforce rules with harsher punishments. If it were me, a crap ass player like Bertuzzi wouldn't be playing hockey and Simon should get a years suspension.
