THIS is Genius idea , WHen you need to start C-15 CAT 15.2 Liter engine on minus -20 C with Batteries it is mission impossible.
BUT That is why i like Russians THEY are deadly effective , THIS is simply MARVELOUS idea to put GAS engine 2 stroke to start the big unit , VERY SMART.
Very smart -- I wish I had this thing in mu 15.2 Liter engine , VERY SMART now with COLD weather I have to pay Towing Fee + Mechanic Fee = Broke This is MARVELOUS IDEA
yes! most soviet era mid-to-heavy tractors start from 2-stroke petrol starter-engine, it's more reliable and also helps starting big diesels in winter when it's minus 15 or lower.
i have one t-150k, it's really owesome, but it is refited with larger 200hp truck engine which came with electric starter only.
Still is the best way to start large, cold diesels. A small easily-started petrol donkey engine/pony motor which you can clutch in to crank the diesel. Saves messing about with large electric starters and their accompanying huge batteries, often weak in freezing temps.
Yep. Early diesels were started this way because at the time, electric motors didnt have the cost-effectiveness, neither the torque or capacity to start these big lugging engines. Especially during a cold start situation, where the diesel may be cranked repetitively.. a period electric motor (that was small enough) would have overheated or just.. not work.
@kimskis Actually I have 2 of these tractors in Saskatchewan and they are very fuel efficient. Uses half the fuel of a JD of the same hp. (175 drawbar)
are these good tractors ? I have heard people say that the Kharkov tractors were poor quality, and the Kirovets from st. Petersburg were very good.. ??
I think that these are not very good tractors. This one broke a planetary reduction from front axle and couple of turbos only a little over 500 hours on the clock!!!
its the 2 stroke gasoline starting engine. With this, it will start in extreme cold, even when most batteries cant deliver the voltage to crank the Diesel fast enough...
thats not russia that is finnish u dumpasses! tosha on aika kova duuni pelkästää käynnistämises:D tol ei oikee tarvii pelätä et jäis kiinni mutaa tai lumee:D
A lot of tractors made in soviet union had 2-stroke gasoline starting engines instead of electric starter. This tractor has got a electric starter for starting engine:D
Early Deere diesels, too! Heck, lot of early diesels used pony engine-start, before electric became reliable enough to turn 'em.
But you mentioned Cat; my grandpa was a design engineer for Caterpillar through much of the '40s, '50s, and '60s. Stands to reason he uses an old D11000 (slightly smaller version of the early RD-8/D-8 engine) stationary for the sawmill! Naturally, it's started by a rather balky twin-cylinder gas engine.
yer u dick, thats cos there probably is, they use a little engine as a starter motor!!!! rather than an electric one in ur car!!!! Think bout it, even says in the info part!!!
Oddly enough I think the donkey engine is the same as some of the old Ural bikes. We used to have a Belarus 1500 (same as T-150K) and a 1507 (same thing but better cab and electric start) on logging cranes/rolling blades a few years back. Goddamn those things can pull!!!
not sure if we're talking the same thing here, but my uncle had an old john deere tractor that you'd start on a small gas engine inside the tractor, get it warmed up, then it'd turn over the main diesel engine. was neat to see. :p (from canada too :p)
back before WWii International (Farmall ) tractors started on gasoline and once warmed up were switched to kerosene. Reason being kerosene was almost free compared to gasoline. Other brands may have done the same, I'm not sure. I know IH did because we had an M on the farm with the small tank for the gasoline . .....Joe
This very good video. Harm, that not to see already with a little engine march T150k tractors though these very origin. And the factory engine has a very beautiful sound. I did not see already on Hungary two years of factory motorcyclist T150k tractor. I live as anything else on Hungary.
The gas start has its advantages like it don't need a big battery (in fact it don't need a battery at all it also has a hand start like in chain saw!!)the gas starter warms the diesel engine before start in cold conditions and pumps up oil pressure in advance.
both engines sounds quite diffrent of the model from the late 70's. reason could be the same exhaustpipe. the 70' model had a exhaustpipe for every singe motor. the procedere is nearly the same but the older model you had to start the pony-motor manuel. greate video... more like this (sorry for my english)
