  • Best movie reviewers ever. I'd watch a flick with that man, I'd share a steak with that man. I love that man.

  • woah, these guys actually have some sense

  • i saw this video on my favourite film expecting cheap comedy but it was brilliantly insightful.

  • It's like Brideshead Revisited, UK series. Rich folks do have morality, but it's not like 'us' , 'us' as in poor. So the death of the child, and their buying in to the tragedy, and being accepted by the rural folks at the funeral, captures a point about common humanity across social economic class. And in a rather clever way reveals that money has cut these boys off from broader society ... a lesson the mother learned, to reject, and them with it, painfully. They have to 'die' to live again.

  • i almost always agree with the old dude. Rock on, old dude.

  • Tho the lady denied it later, she did expect the default poverty scenes in India. Every corner of India is not racked by poverty & famine. Slums are a more urban phenomenon, surely. Rajasthan and Kutch states look exactly the way Anderson showed them.

  • india is too peaceful. besides the city.

  • In many ways I like this movie even more than Darjeeling Limited. :)

  • I dont think they were millionaire kids... were they?? I must have missed that part.

I like how he says it's a particular slice of life. Great way to summarize the movie in a phrase.

  • agreed, but i like wes anderson. i just don't like the royal tenenbaums, that one was a big disappointment

  • they're great...are they married?!

  • Wow you guys are so awesome!

i'd love to discuss some art house with you

  • This movie was one of the my favorites in the "unsung hero" category. I was really entertained by it, it reminded me of silly and thoughtless things only brothers can do amongst themselves. How they act like they hate each but then forget that anything bad had ever happened. I mean, thats being a brother. Its serious moments brought them together that reminded them of a previous tragedy. Great movie, Wes Anderson owns!

  • -I had the car and said you couldn't leave.

    -Yeah, that's correct.

    LOL

  • You two are doing a great job. Thank you for sharing your view.

  • I like u guyz...carry on....

  • Once again, funny and interesting. Marcia has a way of getting to a certain truth about a film. Lorenzo's right about her wanting a film to have a message, and there's nothing wrong with that. Movies like "Darjeeling" or "Superbad" are boring to her because they're not 'about' anything; they're not 'important'. I like those films, but she's got a point.

  • The man knows what he's talking about. :)

  • You two are absolutely amazing! Love your reviews!

  • India is not totally poverty ridden, there is just a disgusting lack of balance in the assets. In India you will find the richest and the poorest. Go to Delhi and Mumbai (Bombay) and you will see luxury sedans, night clubs and what have you. Go to the rural side and you will see what westerners think of India, elephants, huts, tractors and so on.

  • -"I didn't like it"

    -"I liked it, alot"

-"I don't wanna know those kids, I don't want them in my life."

-"I like those kids, I want them in my life"

    I love that old guy.

  • I think this movie was fantastic, it's right on with the real world. Every family has a little disfunction in it, but what people don't pay attention to is most families have so much that they cannot be together happily without disputing each other... I think Wes depicts families as what they truly are, but at the same time he leaves you thinkin no way, why tha hell would they do that, he keeps you on your toes but keeps you laughing and disbelieving the whole time, beautiful!

  • Marcia I agree with you,

    is boring,

i used to like his movies...

is like he is spoiled, and all that marc jacobs snob attitude (is their real life, spoil rich kids making a movie)nothing wrong about that, but make more effort...

    i loved rushmore

  • Gotta go with the guy, he's spot-on and she's just nitpicking. Wes films have always been fantastical, not to do with the reality of life, but more to do with the quirks.

  • I missed that movie. I miss most movies. I agree that India is a beautiful country despite the poverty. Have you seen "Water?"

  • Love them. Hard to find a good movie critic :)

  • Lorenzo! I agree with you completely! Every single shot has something delicious to look at. Thank God there are filmakers like Wes working today who avoid the usual predictable resolutions in plot and care about every visual detail up on screen.

  • damn u guys are always right.

  • haha Lorenzo you rock you should go solo on these reviews you see the movie for what is its! shes just has such a bleek look at everything, sorta depressing and she clearly doesn't have the ability to look outside the box. but anyways still very good, funny reviews.

  • Without Marcia there would be no conversation, no point and counterpoint. In order to have an interesting discussion... ex.

Marcia- "Do you think he (Wes Anderson) is going to continue to make the same movie over and over again?"

    Lorenzo- "Yes."

    Great question, great answer.

  • I could not agree with Lorenzo more. Lorenzo, you snatched the words right out of my mouth! Wes Anderson is meant to be enjoyed as a metaphor, a fantasy, a fetishization of reality itself. That is his unique genius... he is not meant to be taken in a political or historical realism context.

  • Just loved this review! Thank you. Very droll and insightful. Personally, I loved the movie, though of course Mrs Geezers makes good points.

  • you guys are awesome

  • I'm surprised she thought the boy dying was just to show they'd become better people. Three brothers meet three brothers. One dies. It makes the adult three realize how indelibly important they are to each other.

  • Hahaha, nevermind, it's real. Sorry guys.

  • I haven't seen this movie yet, though I plan to. Even though each of your perspectives on the moving were interesting, I also want to say that I find your interactions to be very charming and interesting in and of themselves. You can really tell when two people have spent a lifetime together :)

I plan on seeing more of your reviews! Thanks.

  • I like you two.. keep up the good work. You're both sharp and interesting... Madam, I identify with some of the things that bother you. Thanks.

  • Jewbie999 this is a review, spoilers should be expected.

  • You... spoiled the entire movie, in the first minute.

I enjoyed this movie immensely. Wes Anderson is awesome. Even if the movies all feel alike, that doesn't mean they ARE alike. The woman on the left has no idea how to critique modern media. She needs to get with it.

  • I totally saw Jason Schwartzman at the end of December, at the Ritz Carlton in Atlanta!! I was checking in, and he was getting the doorman to call him a cab. It was badass.

  • My dad forced me to go watch that movie with him, we drove up to Seattle because it wasn't playing anywhere else. I ended up liking it a lot more than he did.

You two should review 'Across The Universe'

    It's amazing. :]

  • love her

  • I liked how the script was kind of sparse. It let the audience fill in the gaps and make interpretations. PEE ESS Why is there so much booze in the background? There is no way they drink a lot, right?

  • she's really close minded but he's awesome

  • What a wonderful couple ...love their comments. Wonderful insight into these movies.

  • Ahh, now this is good editing and a great back and forth dialogue. I wished this level of production was on the Superbad review, but hey, you got a good format here, keep it up! -zen

  • 1. More Marcia!

    2. I too was turned off by these spoiled rich boys, yet emerged hopeful that they might be developing some character, depth and--dare I say it?--insight.

    3. I used to have a problem talking w/my ex about movies: whenever I criticized something that struck me as false (e.g. the "cleaned-up" India), he would get so angry at me for "imposing my values." I just thought the choice undermined my suspension of disbelief--I just want to be able to buy into the movie!

  • Yeah, but in every movie about people in the United States, England, whatever country it's filmed in, do they show the ghettos or poor side of town? I don't see what's wrong with just showing the beautiful scenery or best parts of a country if the bad parts of the country don't have a part in the story line.

  • Well have you been to India? If not, then you are in no position to say "that's not what India is like." Besides, the movie was not even about India. If anything, Anderson is consciously choosing to show us an India as filtered through the brother's, spoiled, rich eyes. Reality is relative to the storyteller.

  • I like that idea (India filtered through their eyes). I admit I am biased toward movies that are either clearly realist or clearly well-developed fantasy (Star Wars; Matrix). A director can experiment with a hybrid of the two, but it needs to be very convincing/compelling on its own terms, and I think that's very hard to do. I liked the movie, but my travels for 2 weeks in India (2005) definitely affected how I responded to it.

  • Hey how about in a review YOU DONT GIVE AWAY PARTS OF THE MOVIE!!!!! jeez lady...

  • Or how about you watch the movie first, then watch the review to get someone else's perspective on it. Since you seem to be sensitive about spoilers why are you seeking out reviews of the movie?

  • Unfortunately I didn't get to see the film in theaters and I am a very big Wes Anderson fan. I just discovered the Reelgeezers and had not heard anything about the film yet so I decided to hear what they had to say. A review is not a synopsis, why can't I seek an opinion before I decide to spend money on it?

  • But reviews do tend to contain some sort of synopsis. The geezers (or any other critic) are not bound to follow any set of rules when they make review a film. Don't show up to someone else's stickball game and proceed to bitch about the house rules.

  • This is all I'm gonna say and then I'm done, I can rely on IMDb and other websites for good REVIEWS before I see a movie. I've watched other Reelgeezers videos and they don't give away spoilers.

  • Werd! regarding "Do you think he's going to continue to make the same movie over and over again?" Yeah, Anderson's fun, isn't he? But sometimes it feels like he's aiming to impress his friends rather than just chilling out and saying something.

You guys are great, thanks for gracing the Internets.

  • He's a better critic to me at least. She doesn't seem to like anything that doesn't resemble past cinema. Wes Anderson is one of the best.

  • I love these guys. I hope I end up as smart and kind as you guys.

  • the best reviews!! Marcia you are fab!

  • that was so funny.

  • You guys are brilliant. Intelligent, incisive, accessible discussion on films. Both sides always have something valuable to say on each film. Makes me wish I could see more new films! I hope you do more videos discussing other topics other than just new releases. Keep up the good work.

  • "You were crouched in your seat-"

    "I wanted to leave!"

"And you couldn't leave, I had the keys."

    "That is correct."

    Hahaha!

  • thats actually a very good assessment of wes anderson's films, that the old man gave.

  • i kind of wish the reviews were longer. =/

  • You know. Wes Anderson isn't for everyone. I've yet to see his newest, but I feel like he's declining in quality. I mean look at "rushmore" and "bottle rocket". I was thouroughly amused by the royal tenenbaums but it was more of a film that was fun to look at, and some of the pure dry wit and humor snaps at the perfect moments. I was unimpressed by the life aquatic, which is why I've been a little scared to watch his newest one. Thank you for the insight. Amazing as always.

  • It's like they're married. I'd love to hear my grandparents go on about movies, rather than ranting about black people stealing bikes and music that's way too loud.

  • These guys are fabulous reviewers. Fun to listen to. Just a side note to previous comments here--I am quite sure they are not married to each other!

  • well, surely they must read this-- are they (you) or aren't they (you) married?

  • I always enjoy these film reviews, much better than Roger Ebert(yawn). I never noticed the fine liquor collection in the background before. Cheers dears! Darjeeling Limited is a beautiful film, salute to the cast, and crew.

  • Marcia and I often agree.

  • Great write up in the LA Times! I'm glad that I could read about your youtube videos. This is the first review that I'm watching. I had to pick this one because I'm still arguing with my friend about this movie. I hated it. My friend loved it. I still think Darjeeling Limited was the most pointless movie of all time. And I am a Wes Anderson fan.

  • i feel as if people writing comments here havent watched other wes anderson movies, it is probably necessary to watch it multiple times because his movies need to be watched alot to understand

  • Inciteful AND entertaining. What a great team.

  • I agree with fembotz -- although I liked this movie, I did find it a bit jejune. Fun, pretty, cute, cute guys. But as the lady reviewer says, the characters are immature, rather callow.

The mother character is so casual about leaving her family. Someone who leaves their family must have a very powerful reason for doing so. Just to show that she is in some kind of weird mountaintop nunnery isn't enough. You end up with wind-up toys instead of characters.

  • I love these guys. Both make very interesting points and its really hard not to like them..

  • Very entertaining! Matt Groening should definitely cartoonize you guys for a Simpsons cameo. Keep it up.

  • My friend, these two don't need a councilor. One person liked the film, one didn't. Married people have to like the same films? I liked to hear why they liked it or disliked it. That's called a discussion, not an argument.

  • This guy gets it. The female critic is nice but still confined by the standards set by Hollywood. I give this guy a lot of credit for thinking & feeling outside the box.

  • love these guys!

  • I give this a B, pretty good for a dvd rental, if you cant wait like me, you can watch it on my website, see my profile

  • i like both of them. i would like to see more reviews from both of them, better than any other critics.

  • Fantastic. She does make a point as to Wes's mind is like a little boy. His movies aren't mature yet. He's like Peter Pan - but don't get me wrong - I do enjoy his childlike universe..It's beautiful and entertaining...but I will also enjoy his work when he grows up and has some new thoughts...... Women are sort of there but not mentally - not really.......he's in latency. He prefers snakes, firecrackers, boy stuff and trains.

  • haha, reel geezers. most entertaining review I've seen so far, I'll have to check out your other reviews

  • Boo, for the woman. Yay, for the man.

Wes Anderson movies are the best.

  • okay. i am totally hooked now.

  • Hilarious...more please.

  • again perfect
