Italy is not allowed to make its own naval aircraft due to the WWII armistice treaty signed with the USA and Allies.

Theorically Italy's ministry of defence should ask and obtain permission by USA and UK who, of course, would deny it since they expect from Italy to buy their aeronautic industry's naval aircrafts .

There's also a limit in the number of submarines and naval carriers Italy may have , so you know Italy makes its own weapons as much as allowed from military leading countries and be sure that both american and british aeronautic industries will never allow Italy to buy, f.i., french Mirage aircrafts or anything else from what they make and sell ....

1 very small 10,000 tons and cavour 28,000 tons

but Italy only has 17 naval harriers lol for 2 carriers lol

currently the only carrier operative is the cavour (the Gribaldi is under maintenance)

the cavour will have 22 f-35

@Lordangers you are right but F35 are for new and bigger aircraft carrier "Cavour", launched a couple of ys ago.

Anyway the smaller "Garibaldi" is not a bad ship: Harrier is a good plane and the ship got four anti-ship missile launchers, a/a missiles system, small rapid guns and torpedos tubes too.

The spanish "Principe de Asturias" is similar in size but she got only small guns for missile defence, nothing else.
