The sand colored ballast used in the yard tracks is mostly sand, with some granite chips that I acquired from a local stone mason thrown in to give it a more 'ballasty' look. In other places I used just sand (where the track is an industry spur).
Jim, this is outstanding! A+ on your scenery and your trackplan. Easy to see that you can get hours of operating enjoyment. I'm currently building an along-the-wall layout and am still working on a trackplan design. Do you have a photobucket account? Would like to see your track plan, if you don't mind. Also are you a member of Kalmbach's Model Railroader Forum? Please join! Good group of guys there including some from Australia. - Thanks and God Bless.
I am a Kalmbach Model Railroader Forum member, but I don' theck in all that often as I can be very busy with lots of other things. You may have realised from the videos that my layout is a switching / industrial / point to point style layout. Heaps of fun to operate! This is only my second point to point layout, and I really could not imagine building a continous run layout again! For operation, continuous run offers no contest to point to point in my opinion. God bless you too.
JIm, thanks for sharing! I like your layout very much. A+ on your trackplan. I'm currently building an 18" wide around-the-wall HO layout. I'm working on a track plan that would enable good industrial switching opportunites. Theme is 1960s eastern U.S. I would enjoy seeing your layout's plan as I still need some more ideas, if you don't mind.. Do you have a photobucket account? Are you a member of Kalmbach's Model Railroader Forum? If not, please join! Great group of guys there. - G'day.
My track plan can be viewed at my website (see the link on my YouTube channel) via the C&SFT -> Track Plan menu options.
I don't have a photobucket account, but I do have my own photo galleries which are also viewable from my website. There are track plans there too, which may give you some ideas.
Hi. Great layout. Can you tell me what you used for the sand coloured ballast?
