My mother comes from Cyprus and they tell us the same thing. It is HELLENIC language. In fact the Cretans are using alot of the same ANCIENT words as the Cypriots use as well. If anything, the language is more PURE than what is spoken in Athens.

Guys mhn lete lolagres. The Lagoutieri singing (who is the second lagouto)is Dimitris Skoulas. The lyrari is Zaxarias Spyridakis. I can't see the proto lagouto but it looks like it is Nikos Karaberakis.

Also one of the dancers with the reddish brown hair and beard with the huge mustache is Antonis Martsakis. He is a violin player from Kissamos and an excellent dancer. You see him go up to the front towards the end of the video.
