@DeathTimer Firstly, I never mentioned stupidity; that was the other top comment and secondly, how am I supposed to prevent future mentions of someone without saying their name?
How do I get a copy of this concert? I've got a really bad quality version but the one here looks better...I NEED IT! Why on earth aren't they releasing this? Seems EMI are continuosly looking for ways to milk more money from Floyd and other acts yet this ground-breaking concert remains in the archives? Sure the quality might not be up to standard but I'd buy it!
Thin ice indeed, beware, try your skates but don´t appear to close to the sun... I´m serious, this is real lyrics about the world shattering around one, It may sound like fun thing to try but it´s so hard clawing as the sanity of your mind breaks and blackness grasps for your soul. Please go ahead, take it if you must, but take it easy... if you get me...avoid winding up on the dark side. Don´t mean only psychedelics now. Shine.
any good song should be able to stand alone on lyrics or music - when they are both superb then the song becomes great. Floyd at their height managed both consistently...
The combination of Roger Waters and David Gilmour with their ensemble is a treat the world had never known. Two geniuses collecting the best of the best. One and one made a ton--light years ahead of its time. The quality is breathtaking and a wonder to hear and feel. Over and over again--they MOVE me. Thank you so much for posting this for us.
Gilmour is a great musician and a very good singer but the fact of the matter is that at least 80% of Dark Side, Wish You Were Here and The Wall came from Roger Waters brain. Heck. He recorded virtually all of both Dark Side and The Wall at his home on a little recorder before presenting it to the rest of the band. Go to Wikipedia and type in Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon and Pink Floyd The Wall. It is all right there how Roger basically had the fundamental idea and content of both.
For me Roger and David together is amazing, separately not so much, I never cared much for the Floyd albums with just David (like The Division Bell) and Rogers solo stuff wasn't all that great either but any Pink Floyd album that has both of them is phenomenal.
Pink Floyd the best for ever ,pure magical sound and songs that helped us know more ...THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER PINK ,,THANKSSSSS for them coming in my lifetime
I actually prefer the studio version to live or "Anybody out there?" Version.DG doesn't play the guitar run which are such a big part of The Walls sound. Could nvr understand why he left them out on the live album.
@t69gto I was not at the 1980 show, but wish I had. Did attend the Roger Waters 30th Anniversary show Oct. 22, 2010 in Columbus, Ohio. You will be very satisfied with this showing for sure. Enjoy. By the time you read this you will already have the warmth of confusion that space cadet glow. In other words this show will leave a smile on your face. :-)
I was at the 1980 Wall Concert in N.Y. Nassau Co. Arena. Rodger Waters wfote the majority of the Wall, David Gilmour Had a big influence on the success of the Wall. And in closing I'LL be attending my Second Wall Concert 30 years later on
Nov 8, 2010. Tomorrow to be Exact! It should be a Great show 1st night out of 3 Sold out! Performances. Floyd Rocks!!.
For those questioning why the audio and the video don't match is because they are from different concerts. Those priveliged to have this concert on video know that the audio is not the greatest so people who post here use the audio from the released CD version. Trust me, it is very much live.
@SkirrePepfles No,it's london, which is a bit of a hassle as I live in Scotland but it'll be well worth it.Seen him twice and it's going to be a long 10 months : )
@FOTOCHOCK y con el audio remasterizado XD , Bueno con el anuncio que acaba de dar Waters, esperemos que David se venga de gira con él y ya ne tendremos que esperar al HD de este XD, aunque estaría chido
another camparison between the Beatles and pink floyd is that they both lived around the same region and they both recorded in Abby Road studio. But to say that they shared a simular sound in both early albums is hog wash. Because Arnald Lane and other songs like it were more like real early stage of punk rock, and "Let Me Hold Your Hand" was just purely wishy washy bull crap. and besides Pink Floyd was considered psycedelic rock early on. The beatle, wishy washy nonsence.
My 3rd ever gig as a 16 year old..I remember some old hippies selling Fat Freddy Cat comics in the auditorium and people skinning up during the performance.

yeah, dude. NOT taking anything away from his amazing songwriting at all. But you're a chump if you think he's a bass god. I'm sorry, you must not be very good if that's what you think. And I'm no guru, but if you really want, I will give you the link to my bands website. I'm not trying to start a conflict, god knows there's enough of them on here. But, i can SAFELY say I'm a better bassist. That's all. Nothing less, nothing more.
shalloend is right, well maybe not about him being better because i have no idea. i personally consider myself the biggest floyd fan out there, and even roger has admitted on multiple occasions that he is no specialty bassist. where his genius role is played is lyrics and music production. not bass.
@shalloend Waters is no Victor Wooton, but he's no slouch either. You don't have to be a virtuoso to be a bass player. I think bass players that just hold with the drums are great IMO.... Besides, that's not his PRIMARY role in the band; he is one of the greatest song writers of all time.
There is music and there is pink floyd music. What makes billions of people love pink floyd all over the world is that they are different from every other band. In fact they are different from each other. Roger's style is different from David's. My favourite is Roger Waters because he is the most different from every body else. He IS a genious.
to be fair, as a bassist waters isn't that fantastic. i learned almost all his shit within a year of playing bass, he's a fantastic songwriter. but his bass, while incredibly fun and great to play, isn't particularly complicated.
just because youve been playing for 9 years doesnt make you the definitive bass expert. so what? who cares? you think he isnt a fantastic bassist. i and many others do. so what makes me or you right? your opinion? i think not. because its an opinion. lets see you write a bass line as good as roger.
I read recently in an article talking about the rumours of Waters doing a The Wall tour in 2010-11, that there may be some "new" footage found from the earl court concert. Hopefully it's true and are good to have a release in DVD.
There will be also a new film from Roger Waters' recent DSOTM tour.
Fantastic!! I always thought Gilmour and Waters werer like Lennon and Mcartney, with Waters being Lennon. I'd pay big bucks to see Waters do a Wall show.
anyone who compares floyd and the beatles is an absolute fuckwit of a mother fucker! they two different types of rock floyd are a bit bluesey were as the beatles were skiffle r'n'b and rock all in one!
that was one of the stagehands preping gilmour's next guitar. he plays different guitars over the course of a concert, each setup for different tones and such.
i love the beatles. i love pink floyd. the beatles influenced pink floyd so if your insulting the beatles' music and you like pink floyd's your a dumbass. their music can be similar at times. the way the bass is played is very similar. listen to "blue jay way" by the beatles. that song sounds sooo much like a pink floyd song
The only performance of the Wall available to buy is the Roger Waters Live in Berlin 1990 DVD. No official release of the original 1980 - 81 shows have been on DVD
oh, and you create a band that becomes world famous, and will be remembered until the end of humanity, then tell me the beatles sucked, they didn't get that famous just by, as you say "riding the wave"
whoever says the beatles were crappy musicians, yea, listen to a paul mcartney bass line, just listen, a lot of people say he's one of the best bassist in the world, oh and guess what, they didn't need to be absolutely spectacular, cause their music was so amazing, oh and fuck, listen to paul sing, he has an amazing voice, all of them do, even ringo's isn't that bad lol
and their lyrics were great too
so shut up, both were great, you can't compare them,
Agreed. :) Paul's not the best bassist but still the Beatles are awesome and he has an awesome voice. IMO the best bassists are John Entwistle, Steve Harris, Geddy Lee and Roger Waters...in that order. You really can't compare the Beatles and Pink Floyd; both are awesome in their own ways.
Your use of the word 'most' is misleading to say the least. For 'Hey You' and some other tracks on Animals, David did play bass. But Roger wrote them.
How can you people even compare the Beatles with Pink Floyd??? you guys are nuts! Totally different worlds, the only thing in common between this two is music, other than that, totally different styles, both bands were great in their own world. Stop hating.
@Shineonbitch if you go listen to their "Older" stuff, they did share quite a bit style-wise, with the beetles, and i agree, people need to stop hating, listen and enjoy or gtfo x3
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
beatles are a seriously over rated band. and they do have no talent there songs are mostly based on simple blues chords, and they wernt the first band ever 2 do rock and roll. so what the massive hype about the beatles is i doubt il ever figure out ;(

In fact they are different from each other. Roger's style is different from David's. My favourite is Roger Waters because he is the most different from every body else. He IS a genious.

None of thier music is "complicated." It's all pretty simple but perfect, that's part of what makes them so great.
lhbox83 2 years ago
@lhbox83 well i wouldnt say that.
some of their music is pretty complex, say shine on your crazy diamond
rambleonrose93 2 years ago
to be fair, as a bassist waters isn't that fantastic. i learned almost all his shit within a year of playing bass, he's a fantastic songwriter. but his bass, while incredibly fun and great to play, isn't particularly complicated.
FrenchRevolution1789 2 years ago
@FrenchRevolution1789 if u knew anything about music u'd shuddup.
the techincal skill doesnt say anything about the bassist's true skill. notice most great songs are simple and brilliant.
nyg8128 2 years ago
playing bass for almost 9 years now. i must know nothing about it you're right.
FrenchRevolution1789 2 years ago
just because youve been playing for 9 years doesnt make you the definitive bass expert. so what? who cares? you think he isnt a fantastic bassist. i and many others do. so what makes me or you right? your opinion? i think not. because its an opinion. lets see you write a bass line as good as roger.

I'd pay big bucks to see Waters do a Wall show.

anyone who compares floyd and the beatles is an absolute fuckwit of a mother fucker! they two different types of rock floyd are a bit bluesey were as the beatles were skiffle r'n'b and rock all in one!
dalesnail86 2 years ago
look at 0:05 he just unplugs the cord from the guitar..lol
stuge4life 2 years ago
that was one of the stagehands preping gilmour's next guitar. he plays different guitars over the course of a concert, each setup for different tones and such.
deaglan1 2 years ago
But that man unplugs Snowy's guitar. When "In the Flesh?" was played, the Surrogate Band was on the stage, not PF.

i love the beatles. i love pink floyd. the beatles influenced pink floyd so if your insulting the beatles' music and you like pink floyd's your a dumbass. their music can be similar at times. the way the bass is played is very similar. listen to "blue jay way" by the beatles. that song sounds sooo much like a pink floyd song
freddiebarry93 2 years ago
Damn, Roger's bass is really high in the mix.

TheTWshow 2 years ago
whoever says the beatles were crappy musicians, yea, listen to a paul mcartney bass line, just listen, a lot of people say he's one of the best bassist in the world, oh and guess what, they didn't need to be absolutely spectacular, cause their music was so amazing, oh and fuck, listen to paul sing, he has an amazing voice, all of them do, even ringo's isn't that bad lol
and their lyrics were great too
so shut up, both were great, you can't compare them,
TheTWshow 2 years ago 2

I think David is the better bassist in Pink Floyd...
hylkeenteroittaja 2 years ago
Well, you know David played most of the bass parts on records
skateboarding118 2 years ago
Your use of the word 'most' is misleading to say the least. For 'Hey You' and some other tracks on Animals, David did play bass. But Roger wrote them.
donredguitar 2 years ago
Well said...and way to include Geddy Lee on your list. Its all a bit subjective...but i have to second your list. Well played.

Hey, you gotta add Jack Bruce in there.

How can you people even compare the Beatles with Pink Floyd??? you guys are nuts! Totally different worlds, the only thing in common between this two is music, other than that, totally different styles, both bands were great in their own world. Stop hating.
Shineonbitch 2 years ago 46
@Shineonbitch absoloutley.good music is good music...period.
wildenfree 1 year ago
@Shineonbitch if you go listen to their "Older" stuff, they did share quite a bit style-wise, with the beetles, and i agree, people need to stop hating, listen and enjoy or gtfo x3

beatles are a seriously over rated band. and they do have no talent there songs are mostly based on simple blues chords, and they wernt the first band ever 2 do rock and roll. so what the massive hype about the beatles is i doubt il ever figure out ;(
