from beyond i watched as a kid and it's stuck in my mind as one of the most disturbing and frightening thrillers of all time... re-animator too of course!

the fly 2 is criminally underrated it may not be as good as the first film in terms of writing but in terms of special effects its amazing and overall it's an entertaining experience.
Cheers man. I actually have still not watched it yet. I'll have to get on that soon. Yes, I heard the special effects were very good. Thanks for commenting ;)
Great selection of movies right there! I probably would have bought the Fly 2 as well if it was cheap. Although its not great it still managed to freak me out when I was a teen. I still remember the scene of the dog and the bowl....
Damn right, I love the sound of rain too - very soothing. I had that Aussie DVD of Maniac Cop - your right, it's a pretty crap release. Even the cover is bad - looks like they got some blurry picture off google lol. Day of the Dead is a great film, and the release really does the film justice. Great stuff. Thanks man for the comment.
Hey, have you ever heard of Interstate 60: Tales From the Road? I just started watching it in pieces on youtube and it's got this strange David Lynch gone feel good type vibe.
Hmmm, no I haven't man. I'll have to look into it. The atmosphere in Lynch films is one of my favourite aspects of his films, so I'd say it would be one I'd enjoy.
It was hard getting used to the traffic. As you may know, I lived in Tasmania, out in the middle of no where. Silent at night, save for animals. Maniac Cop is really cool, liked that film a lot :D.
It's funny - when the sun is shining here, you have rain. And when it was snowing here back in February, you were complainig about the untakeable heat down under.
Cannibal Ferox is a much more simple film than C.Holocaust. I bought that DVD too, where did you get it? I paid a fairly high amount of money for it.
That 2-Disc of Day is one of my favorites. I always fear that the moveable thing at the front may get damaged. It's rather frail.
lol, don't get me wrong - I love cold weather. It's in my blood growing up in Tasmania. Cannibal Holocaust I got from DD I think. I think it was around $17 US. I'm worried about the Bub flap on Day too - don't want to tear it. I agree about Whip - really, it should have been in the set. Coolness, I'd like to hear what you thought of Beatrice Cenci. The From Beyond DVD is great - packed with stuff to watch, plus the film look great. Yeah, I just found it weird Maniac Cop wasn't Blue Underground.
Thanks man. was having a crappy day having only just put my foot out of bed only to stand on my glasses and break a lens I thought the day was gonna be a bit shitty. That cheered me up. I got the same Day of the Dead disc. Its very good though I find the 'Bub tab' means you have to be really careful how you store it.
Thanks for the shout out fella. really appreciate it.
Ah, I know the kind of day your talking about man. Good to know I cheered you up some. Once again, thanks for doing those videos. Very much surprised me ;). I'm going to be extra careful with the DoD DVD - I can just picture the flap being torn. Thanks mate.
From Beyond is fuckin' incredible. Funny thing...I just picked up Cannibal Ferox and Maniac Cop today myself. I can't wait to watch both. Nice update yet again.
Thanks for the heads-up on the commentary. Out of interest, does Lenzi do it in English if you remember? That would be classic! From Beyond - I'm so psyched I finally got the DVD. The VHS can now retire gracefully.
English! It's just incredible for so many reasons. I don't want to say more. :)
You should check out my very first saved favorite. It's the one scene still missing from From Beyond. The trimmed bits of the first Pretorious transformation. :)
Hey man. I'm actually pretty excited to see the film, even though a lot of people seem to sh*t on it. I love Cronenbergs version, so naturally this one really appeals to me.
I know. I woke up in the morning one morning and all of a sudden it was pummelling down! Great stuff, love the rain. Hope you guys get a drop soon, there's certainly enough to go around from here ;)
Really? It does have a TV movie feel to it, but I think it's because the budget is low, and Lustig has always been a kind of guerrilla filmaker. I thought the movie was pretty bad-ass. Z'Dar is a veritable killing machine. Is there anything else you didn't like about it?
not alot of killing and more talking then anything happening and at times some of the scenes where way to dark i mean this is his follow up to maniac its like doing a horror remake and making it pg lol
Great update James, that's good rain you're getting. It was pouring down here a lot last night; I think whatever weather Adelaide gets Melbourne is expected to get it as well.
Maniac cop sounds awesome, just saw on the JB website that it's only $17
Yeah, I'm loving the rain at the moment. It hasn't let up for the past few days. Ahhh, can snuggle up in bed now and get all warm while the soothing rain plummets down - heaven! Yeah, our Aussie version of Maniac Cop ain't really worth it to be honest. No special features and the movie is in fullscreen. Thanks for the comment mate.
I know right - the cover art is great. On our Australian version we have a really fuzzy, blurry photo of the maniac cop walking down the street. Looks like shite compared to the Synapse release.
Hey man - yep, get From Beyond next time you see it - you won't regret it. One of Gordons best films. The Maniac Cop series is heaps of fun, I still need to see the third film though. Thanks buddy.
once again james a very awesome update, thanks. ive just recently gotten into cannibal films so i definitely wanna check out cannibal ferox. when i bought zombi (euro dawn of the dead) it was between that and your day of the dead edition dvd and now im kicking myself for not going w/ day of the dead! i never gave maniac cop a chance but i think i will now. again thanks!
Cheers man :D. Cannibal Ferox is definitely one of the better films in the sub-genre, not to mention one of the most entertaining. AH, no worries man - there will always be another DVD. Yeah, I know you love slashers, so I think you'd dig Maniac Cop. Thanks for the comment.
From Beyond is great I love Gordons films. Also that Bava and Fulci set looks awesome, Ryko disc is a real good company they put out all Frank Zappas cds!
I love From Beyond - remember watching it back in the day on VHS. Yeah, Ryko put out some excellent stuff. They've got so many great DVD company's under their label.
I have a feeling I'll like The Fly better than the remake too :P. The sequel seems like it will be alright, but it can't live up to something as good as Cronenbergs version. Thanks for the kind words Justin! Cheers
Cannibal Ferox, while more light-heart, still has animal killings, so I don't know if you'd still want to see it. It reminds me of a cheesy adventure movie. That Day of the Dead Special Edition is great - track one down if you can. You should like From Beyond if you enjoyed Gordon's other word. Great stuff. Thanks for the comment mate.
It kind of goes with the territory with cannibal films. I think just about everyone I've seen has some kind of animal killing in it. If your not into that kind of thing, it may be best to avoid. If you get the Grindhouse edition of Cannibal Holocaust, you can watch the film in animal cruelty free mode, so maybe you can get that afterall.
Hmm, that sounds like a good idea. The Grindhouse version might just interest me.
I understand that they want to make these films more realistic by killing real animals, but I believe that this could all be done the same way they fake the human killings, thats just my point of view.
Day of the dead! Love it..Night Of the living dead remains my fav though, I love its macabre use of shadows and camera angles u really feel a sense of claustophobia in that house.
Night of the Living Dead is probably my favourite of the series, but I still haven't seen Day of the Dead. My least favourite is probably Land of the Dead. Maniac Cop! I can never find a copy of that film, and ever since I found out Bruce Campbell was in it I've been dying to. Great video James, as usual!
Oh, you need to see Dead. It has great social commentary and takes the series in an interesting direction. My least favourite would probably be Land too - felt a bit uninspired. Maniac Cop is lots of fun - I'd recommend tracking down a copy. I of coarse had to import mine :(. Cheers man.
Great pickup on the Day Of The Dead 2disc! The special features on that are really fun! Hey you picked up Whip and the Body, great film! From Beyond is my favorite Stuart Gordon movie as well. Maniac Cop is such a fun movie, I have it on VHS and really need a DVD copy! Lol The Fly 2 isn't very good but thats an awesome cover though! Love your hoodie by the way, one of my favorite bands! Great update James!!!
Yeah, loved the special features on Day - was interesting hearing about how the project was originally planned, how it was much larger in scale. Whip & the Body is great - glad to finally get rid of my old fullscreen DVD. From Beyond had great special effects and a killer cast. If you do get Maniac Cop, the Synapse release is excellent - lots of goodies on the disc. Cheers, my girlfriend got me that hoodie :D.
Cannibal terror is ok,its about a kidnap of a child and the baddies get their come uppence,i'll say no more, usual cannibal stuff, loads of entrails and ofal, this time the cannibals are shown in a better light.Ive not seen Holocaust for years but,it was either that one or one similer where you saw the truck,
Looks beautiful outside your place with the palm trees blowing in the rain. Caught a bit of Cannibal Ferox on TV last night but I had to get to bed. Looked good, though.
Thank you. I love the rain - it's been bucketing down the past few days after none for months. Wow, Cannibal Ferox on TV? I need to live where you do :P. We'd never get that here.
Yeah, I live in Canada and it was on the Scream channel uncut last night. We have some good uncensored cable channels like that and Drive-In classics. You find some gems occasionally showing like Night of the Creeps and Blood Games.
i've only got cannibal terror zombie holocaust of the cannibal type movies, ferox sounds like it will be on my list, holocaust i saw some time back and im sure you see a lorry go by in the distance on that lol looks like you live next to the fast lane like i do,
Cannibal Terror I haven't seen - what's it like mate? Zombie Holocaust is a guilty pleasure of mine - I love it. Ferox is quite fun and entertaining - one of the best in the cannibal genre. lol, I never knew about the lorry - do you know which scene? Yes, I live on the main highway here (yay...) - Anzac Highway. Thanks for the comment mate.
when i watch a movie i get into the genre, /sub genre, and only get out those movies, im starteing off with my were wolf colection, cuz in into those movies at the moment. but if ionly i had my all time fav. . 'ginger snaps ' =) can't start till i have it,
Wicked, sounds great man. Werewolf films are a much maligned sub-genre. Have you seen The Company of Wolves? Really great werewolf film, and it has a dreamlike, fantasy quality.
i not seen it in years, but i remeber it quite well, i not seen it sence i was 4or 5 but great movies are remeberble to me. il add it to my , to get list, i'll just focus on the wereeolfvs for now, to buy,
i'm not sure if u like the monster movies, but which mabey not the movie but creature in genral do u like da best,
vampir, werwolf, zombi, caniba, alien, animal, a monstr, , what welse is there, eh lets ad, slashr villains.
I love monster movies - in particular, animal attack films. Hmmm, out of those sub-genres, it's kind of hard to choose. Zombie films are great - I might have to pick that.
i never used to like zombie movies til i saw return of the living dead. cuz i got anoyed with virus spred zombies, i like the old fasion pop out from grave zombie. =) " brains"
I've been meaning to check out The Whip and the Body. It's one of the only Bava titles I haven't seen. You have some excellent pick-ups there. Another great update!
i was ganna buy ' from beyond' today, but my credit card aparntly has no money on it :(
now i'm ganna have to wait till i get more money. great video by the way, i'll be making my dvd collection vids as soon as i get my fav of each genre. i could alway do a part two, of the genre, but rather all in one, like, vampire, werewolf, zombie, slasher, alien, animal, and other, and of coure vintcent price and tim burton :)
Ah, same thing happened to me man. I went to buy 'Who Can Kill A Child', paid for it, then was told there were insufficient funds. Gah! Oh well, next time. Those videos sound like they'd be great - i like how you've categorised them. Very smart. Cheers man.
Great video James! I need to check out some of those movies. You've really got some nice titles in your collection...and it seems to be getting better and better! Take care man.
I've heard a lot of good things about Cannibal Ferox. It's one of those movies that I'm most anxious to get. I also have that Divimax 2-Disc Special Edition of Day of the Dead. Day of the Dead never disappoints me. It's just perfect. I haven't seen The Whip & the Body or Conspiracy of Torture. I haven't seen From Beyond, Maniac Cop, or The Fly II either.
Cannibal Ferox is a really fun cannibal movie. Pretty brutal gore too. It even has an obligatory castration scene! Yay lol! That Day of the Dead edition is just great. The picture quality looks beautiful, and the special features are well done. Thanks for the comment mate.
from beyond i watched as a kid and it's stuck in my mind as one of the most disturbing and frightening thrillers of all time... re-animator too of course!

Whip and the Body is one of my favorite Bava films. Better than some of the movies in the Anchor Bay Bava Box 1.
That's funny, I just bought Beatrice Cenci on a great German DVD too recently and will show it in my coming update.
That From Beyond DVD is a must-have; bought it right when it came out. I've been waiting for it to come out for so long.
Hm, couldn't find any info about Maniac Cop not being released on Blue Underground.
Great update as usual James!

Cannibal terror is ok,its about a kidnap of a child and the baddies get their come uppence,i'll say no more, usual cannibal stuff, loads of entrails and ofal, this time the cannibals are shown in a better light.Ive not seen Holocaust for years but,it was either that one or one similer where you saw the truck,
kaiserbill50 2 years ago
Thanks for the info man. I might still seek out Cannibal Terror if I see it going cheap - i love cheesy cannibal films.

Looks beautiful outside your place with the palm trees blowing in the rain. Caught a bit of Cannibal Ferox on TV last night but I had to get to bed. Looked good, though.
Indiephantom 2 years ago
Thank you. I love the rain - it's been bucketing down the past few days after none for months. Wow, Cannibal Ferox on TV? I need to live where you do :P. We'd never get that here.
Jarashut 2 years ago
Yeah, I live in Canada and it was on the Scream channel uncut last night. We have some good uncensored cable channels like that and Drive-In classics. You find some gems occasionally showing like Night of the Creeps and Blood Games.

Wicked stuff man. I don't think we have a channel here dedicated to cult/horror films. Would be cool if we did.
Jarashut 2 years ago
lol, yeah, especially a MANIAC cop. Watch your back man. I've not seen Maniac COp3 yet. Is it good?
Jarashut 2 years ago
i've only got cannibal terror zombie holocaust of the cannibal type movies, ferox sounds like it will be on my list, holocaust i saw some time back and im sure you see a lorry go by in the distance on that lol looks like you live next to the fast lane like i do,
kaiserbill50 2 years ago
Cannibal Terror I haven't seen - what's it like mate? Zombie Holocaust is a guilty pleasure of mine - I love it. Ferox is quite fun and entertaining - one of the best in the cannibal genre. lol, I never knew about the lorry - do you know which scene? Yes, I live on the main highway here (yay...) - Anzac Highway. Thanks for the comment mate.

That's what I thought too. I saw it at the cinema so maybe that's why it was so memorable.

Great choices. Hmmm - do you mean horror? I know it's not a popular choice, but I really liked Cloverfield.

T1Matrix 2 years ago
Wicked, sounds great man. Werewolf films are a much maligned sub-genre. Have you seen The Company of Wolves? Really great werewolf film, and it has a dreamlike, fantasy quality.
Jarashut 2 years ago
id have to say that was my first horror movie i ever remeber. company of wolfs. if it was a horror, was for me when i was 4.
well is that the little red riding hood theme movie, if so, it gave me nightmare for years. lol. lil red riding hood who would have guesed.
T1Matrix 2 years ago
Wow really? That's really cool man. Yes, it's the one with the red riding-hood theme. Great concept for a film in my opinion.
Jarashut 2 years ago

T1Matrix 2 years ago
I love monster movies - in particular, animal attack films. Hmmm, out of those sub-genres, it's kind of hard to choose. Zombie films are great - I might have to pick that.

I've been meaning to check out The Whip and the Body. It's one of the only Bava titles I haven't seen. You have some excellent pick-ups there. Another great update!
sbertke 2 years ago
Whip & the Body is great stuff. Very gothic and macabre, heavy with atmosphere - you know, the whole Bava thing ;). Thanks mate.

now i'm ganna have to wait till i get more money. great video by the way, i'll be making my dvd collection vids as soon as i get my fav of each genre. i could alway do a part two, of the genre, but rather all in one, like, vampire, werewolf, zombie, slasher, alien, animal, and other, and of coure vintcent price and tim burton :)
T1Matrix 2 years ago
Ah, same thing happened to me man. I went to buy 'Who Can Kill A Child', paid for it, then was told there were insufficient funds. Gah! Oh well, next time. Those videos sound like they'd be great - i like how you've categorised them. Very smart. Cheers man.
Jarashut 2 years ago
Great video James! I need to check out some of those movies. You've really got some nice titles in your collection...and it seems to be getting better and better! Take care man.

Well, thank you very much for the kind words man, they're much appreciated. I've got more DVDs to show in upcoming updates, so keep your eyes peeled

Great update.
MyFairMunster 2 years ago
Cannibal Ferox is a really fun cannibal movie. Pretty brutal gore too. It even has an obligatory castration scene! Yay lol! That Day of the Dead edition is just great. The picture quality looks beautiful, and the special features are well done. Thanks for the comment mate.
