  • gotta love the eighties no one ever does a commercial for a comic book anymore

  • Comment removed

  • I wish people would stop seeing his concept negativly. Cobra uniting to create there own emperor - and succeeding - was a hell of a story. It boosted Cobra's morale to the max, motivating them to fight harder & with more confidence. There was also a "shock" factor in the creating of such a bad-ass character. Under his leadership, Cobra started winning there battles. It created "expansion" for stories about CC involvement's in trying to kill him and retake Cobra.

Move Bitch Get out the way Get out the way

  • This was when G.I. joe jumped the shark

  • @BBnanner No that was GI Joe the Movie. And they didnt have to drop the ball, a better idea wouldve been having a storyline involving a new faction that exists in the comics; the Coil. A secret group seeking to take power from Cobra, actually lead by the Commander, with Firefly & Storm Shadow.

  • And then Zartan's arrow reached Serpentor's neck and we said goodbye to the overrated leader.

  • @SOLACEBOY His eye. It hit him in the eye.

  • I remember that day... the worst day of my life. But I overcame that slight set back... mostly. I give Serpentor 10 Serpentor slaps! All hail Cobraaaaa! - Cobra Commander

  • Love the way Serpentor pimp slaps Cobra Commander out of the way..."One side bitch, I'm taking over!!"

  • I believe cobra commanders DNA was also used to make serpentor..,, "Hail cobra "

  • @peccavi1976 Actually it was Storm Shadow's.

  • @cyriljackal @cyriljackal I read it was Zartan's.

  • From my old studies in history, Seems like in the cartoon Serpentor inherited these traits instead. The bipolar tendencies of Napoleon, the excessive pride of Julius Caesar, and the diplomatic incompetence of Attila the Hun. I wish he could have done like Hannibal after they lost in Washington DC and committed suicide.

  • @eshaw2115 I didn't buy this Serpentor character in the comics-TV series. If a man made clone were implanted with the psychological-genetic traits of those tyrants of yesteryear, Serpentor would've had a severe multiple personality disorder that would've been dangerously difficult for Cobra to tame.

  • @eshaw2115 If you read the comics, he didn't commit suicide, but Zartan put an arrow thru his eye!

  • @eshaw2115 I guess Serpentor got the bad qualities of those conquerors as well as the good ones. In some cases INSTEAD of the good ones. If he had Sun Tzu's DNA, it would have balanced them out.

  • I always like zartan and the dreadnoks the most and destro and those twin brothers. my favorite joes were snake eyes and the sailor with the parrot (shipwreck?) and that was about it. The action figure of Zartan was really cool tho cuz it would change color in the sun.

  • 0:03 "You wanna play daddy, destro?

    Dr. Evil

  • Thing about the cartoon Serpentor I'll never forget is how ruthless and powerful he is in his debut, and the sniveling weakling he becomes in G.I. Joe: the Movie. "Ah! Ah! Nemesis Enforcer, help me!" he cries after Sgt. Slaughter's troops take two shots at him...

If the 80's didn't require that all the villains had to be incompetent and bumbling, we could've had a cool Cobra Commander. That said, I still liked him more than Serpie.

  • oh yeah

  • At least this guy was somewhat more tolerable in the early comics than the cartoon. Zartan however became one of my favorite characters after hitting Serpentor right between the eyes with an arrow.

  • The biggest impact Serpy made on me int he comics was in a GIJOE yearbook where he told Dr. Mindbender how a great battle in Roman history was won by the invention of pizza. I wish I was joking.

So Cobra spent millions of dollars to create a new leader who's vaunted military mind flashed back to the invention of pizza? Maybe Cobra Commander wasn't the problem here.

  • @bobbyknightmare Scary thing is I remember that Yearbook, and I haven't owned it for 20 years or so.

  • best 3 cobra character's of the serie's!

  • Loved this commercial back in the day.

The animated version was an annoying turd -- "THIS I COMMAND!!" Gah!

I'll take the comics version, even if he was underused for most of the time.

  • 0:01 to 0:03 Cobra Commander: Sssstupid globe!

  • The whole concept of creating Serpentor (taking DNA from great military leaders) seemed like a good idea; but it would have worked better had they been able to use Sun Tzu's DNA . . . .

  • @DukeofColumbia

I remember the tv show saying that Serpentor's mind was imbalanced because he lacked Sun Tzu's dna... but what would it have actually contributed if he had Napoleon for strategic prowess? Did they ever explain that?

  • @mrtrin Sun Tzu had patience.

  • Arthur Burghardt (voice of Destro) played the Great Ahmed Kahn in NETWORK.

  • @Bla31n

    Are you serious?

  • Serpentor SUCKS!

I'm glad Serpentor died in the comics by Zartan's arrow and was turned into some lizard's bitch after the 1987 movie by Cobra Commander.

  • @SOLACEBOY But Zartan kills him way to easily. He's like okay let,s get this over with... Shots and gets him between the eyes. Serpentor's dead. Done.

  • season 2 was the best in gi joe series

  • Serpentor was a charismatic and superficially brave and LOOKED impressive which inspired his troops(plus Dr. Mindbender did MOST of his actual THINKING for him). Cobra Commander was actually a brilliant strategist. He was able to build Cobra up from nothing and had enough sense to know when to retreat, the thing is Serpie was too damn short tempered and short sighted to retreat. CC was a a superior Cobra leader in intellect and strategy.

  • I guess Serpentor could be filed under "Seemed like a good idea at the time." I mean, the concept was good, but what were they thinking when Serpentor was actually used? I mean, how many dictators go around saying "THIS I COMMAND!!!" after every paragraph?

  • I'm glad Zartan shot and killed Serpentor with an arrow to his neck. He was so annoying.

  • I loved the Serpentor story arc- it was the one thing Cobra actually accomplished to some effect. But soon after this the movie came out and he was immediately trumped in power by Cobra La so that was pretty lame.

  • Honestly,I never really cared for serpentor. He just took the realism out of the fun...probubly that goofy costume.

  • I thought Serpentor was handled better (read: more realistically) in the comics than on TV.

You honestly expect me to believe CC didn't have one supporter left in Cobra? Not *one*?

  • Personally, I thought Suprentor was awsome. Suprentor has more of that ruthless "push" when it came to warfare, and Cobra started winning more of it's battles under his command (though never won the war). CC was so anxious to save his troops, to fight another day.

  • im sorry but i really HATED serpentor.

in the cartoon he was a stupid clod who talked like a three year old kid allways saying 'this i command'

he was not very interesting in the comics either.

cobra commander is the only leader cobra needs.

when the cartoon and comic introduced serpentor i lost interest.

and i really hope that if a sequil is made to the upcoming g. i. joe movie serpentor will not be in it.

  • I agree. But if you watch "The RIse of Serpentor" episodes you'll see that Cobra Commander is really given his due by the writers.

They don't just push him out of the way for serpentor.

I don't even display serpentor in my 25th display. Cobra-La stuff is freaky.

  • I think it got worse when they introduced Cobra-La. (with Collobulous) I mean the joes were now fighting Mutant/alien, whatever the hell those things were, and CC being turned into a snake.

On the plus side, GI joe the movie was better than GI JOe the Rise of Cobra.

  • @pyrogyra72 >.> no...no..rise of cobra is better than gijoe the movie. but eh. to each his own.

  • I really liked Serpentor, they didn't use him enough.

  • What about Adolf Hitler? When they made Serpentor, the Fuhrer got skipped over. At the very least, he probably would've had a better uniform instead of a rubber snake suit. lol

  • Hitler was incompetent. He was out cold during the Normandy Invasion. He also

    suffered from many medical problems.

The comic book Serpentor was a

    dangerous and ruthless enemy. Until

    Zartan killed him. Cartoon Serpentor

    was an ass.

  • Zartan killed him? Whoa. In later comics G.I. Joe and Cobra had to form an alliance just to take him out.

  • Yes Zartan shot him in the head with an arrow. It was during the Cobra Civil

War story arc. Though he was revived

years later, he died once again. A

U.S. Army general later finds out that

    he's a clone of Serpentor.

  • More specifically, Zartain shot him right through the eye!

  • @peterparker12 whoa do you have any idea how backwards what you said is? cobra never formed an alliance with G.I. Joe to take HIM out, HE formed an alliance with G.I. Joe to take CC (actually Fred Vii in disguise) out. Zartan killing him was what ended ended the Cobra Civil War, as his followers surrendered and Fred VII allowed G.I. Joe to leave after the battle (which technically, by siding with the now dead opposition leader, they actually lost)

  • @peterparker12 but then again, apparently you've grossly overestimated Serpentor's badassery. the real reason behind his alliance with G.I. Joe was that (gasp) he lacked the manpower to defeat Fred VII on his own O.o

  • @peterparker12 was a very fitting fate for Serpentor in all honesty tho. he started the Cobra Civil War, so it would be nothing if not karmic that his death ended it. and besides, Zartan doesn't get near enough credit. tho CC is imprisoned by the end of The Rise of Cobra, Zartan's the effin PRESIDENT. not to mention, if not for BOTH an unforseen tactical disadvantage AND an extremely lucky twist of fate, he would've ended the legend known as Snake Eyes before it even began

  • @metalbikini2002 Seriously, Hitler was an idiot militarily he let 300,000 troops get captured rather then retreat. The Wermacht was so disgusted by the way he conducted the war, they resorted to trying to kill him.

  • Serpenter RULES - literally!

  • Serpentor will not be in the movie. This I command!

  • this video reminds me of my videos!!1 t

  • Interesting how tentative Serpentor's color scheme was in this commercial. Even in the comic book, after the cartoon series had ended its run, the artists were still screwing up on Serpentor's color by painting his outfit dark green and his cape red.

  • HAIL SERPENTOR!!!!!

  • I never caught on to Serpentor, his hood looked kind of corny and his vocabulary was that of the king's english...THIS I COMMAND!

  • Apparently one too many giant globe tosses results in a civil war these days...

  • I can't believe you have this clip. Serpentor was a true Reptile-At-Large

  • Military genius of Napoleon... ruthlesses of Julius Caesar...Daring of Hannibal ...cunning of Atilla the Hun... That's why I love Serpentor!

  • I love that issue. It was the beginning of what was the Cobra Civil War.
