Cité = Huge neighbourhood, with "low class" habitants, which is like a own part of a city. Pretty much a own city... You can call it ghetto.
The Bronx, Queens etc. are not ghettos, cause they are integrated in the city mostly. But the banlieues etc. are far away from the main City. The ppl are like locked out...

@chaowalker This places are dangerous for outsiders of the "cité" and especially for cops. There is many drugs and arms trafficking (recently AK-47). So yes there is much crime in place like these than in the rest of the city but some are VERY dangerous and some aren't so dangerous... It would be great if it only look run-down ^^

@gabtkt I just returned from a week in Paris. I had been before, but had only seen what we in the U.S. call the 'projects' from a distance. Now I saw these areas close up. We used to have massive projects in the U.S., Bedford Stuyvesant, Cabrini Green Chicago, etc. They did not look as bad as the worst I see here. We realized the projects did not work some time ago. I was shocked at the lack of civility I saw in even the heart of Paris. I was also pickpocketed. I fear for Europe's future.

One moment I have this house, get sick and I'm on the street.

The thing is because London is so big it's homicide rate amounts to lower, Glasgows is higher because it's smaller and it only gets like maybe 40 murders a year. Crime here is probably overated because you live in the nice parts, if you live in the estates it's a different story altogether, the crime in Glasgow is 12 year olds stabbing each other and that's as bad as it gets

Et d'passage si vs pouvez me dire pck jme pose souvent la question suivante c quoi exactement la différence entre une cité et une résidence, parce que dans les deux cas ya souvent un ensemble de batiment non? ou c'est quand c'est plus pauvre, je crois c'est ca mais pas sur. il me semble aussi que les cités non pas de barriere , enfin c'est pas privé quoi tu entre sans interdiction

pour la résidence y a différentes conception suivant les gens. pour moi une résidence c'est un immeuble privé plutot aisé.
Certaines cité ont des barrières, mais la pluspart du temps vu la taille de l'ensemble sa serai du gachi en barrière alors ils en mettent meme pas :p et puis simer certain quartier c deja assez la prison comme sa.
seulement 8000 ? pourtant les batiments sont énormes !!

@chaowalker This places are dangerous for outsiders of the "cité" and especially for cops. There is many drugs and arms trafficking (recently AK-47). So yes there is much crime in place like these than in the rest of the city but some are VERY dangerous and some aren't so dangerous... It would be great if it only look run-down ^^

@gabtkt I just returned from a week in Paris. I had been before, but had only seen what we in the U.S. call the 'projects' from a distance. Now I saw these areas close up. We used to have massive projects in the U.S., Bedford Stuyvesant, Cabrini Green Chicago, etc. They did not look as bad as the worst I see here. We realized the projects did not work some time ago. I was shocked at the lack of civility I saw in even the heart of Paris. I was also pickpocketed. I fear for Europe's future.

And monthly payment for healthcare insurance is around one thousand dollars plus co-pays and things that are not covered by insurance. Plus, I dare you to back up with source the fact that median household income between 45 and 75 K per household. Also, with 45K per year I would not be able to pay for my ghetto in Silicon Valley and eat.

I just looked at Detroit ghettos and I'll tell you that France ghettos look absolutely beautiful with stunning architecture of maybe 60ties or 70ties. Of course it is a little obsolete and there are obviously a lot of defacing going on there, but I would never call it GHETTO.

@Rems782 I lived in similar apartment housing all my life and you call me ignorant. I think it all depends on people psychology not on housing at all. I personally better live in housing like that, but with the roof over my head, education possibilities for my kids and healthcare than have a house of 5 bedrooms and debt of two million dollars, education 20 thousands a year and raising, and healthcare measured in thousands only. One moment I have this house, get sick and I'm on the street.

@fethk The US is pretty much the only country (from industrially developed ones) where the majority of bankruptcies and homeless people come from inability to pay medical bills. Also the wealth distribution (this is where rich US is coming from I suppose) is that of developing countries like Brazil, Jamaica, Uganda, and Mozambique. I suppose you know what it means? That rich is getting richer and poor is getting poorer in the US progressively. Because money is here it doesn't mean ppl have it.

@fethk I live in the US. To depict things even better, I live in Silicon Valley in CA. In the beautiful bubble surrounded by billionaires and at least 20 thousand homeless in SV alone (not counting Bay Area metro area). Loosing ones job in here means automatically losing healthcare, mortgage (home), education, insurance and car. You are immobile without car and can't find a job. Result - you are in the streets.

@Su2AllStar Nn arete le quartier le plus insalubres de France c'est La Forestiere a Clichy 93 et Les Bosquet a Montfermeil 93 la moitié des images de cette video c des images de Clichy Montfermeil et peut etre que Felix Pyat c'est l'un des quartiers les plus dégradés mais je sais que c'est pas du tout le plus chaud , la bas ya pas de Gros Fait divers qui passe la bas et si Mantes tu connais pa regarde France 3 encemoment il parle deux pck ya eu une greve de bus (un bus a été brulé au Val Fourré)

@daviid10 lol 1.4?? the figures for 2010 were the lowest ever recorded and that was 1.9 the highest was 2.7. The thing is because London is so big it's homicide rate amounts to lower, Glasgows is higher because it's smaller and it only gets like maybe 40 murders a year. Crime here is probably overated because you live in the nice parts, if you live in the estates it's a different story altogether, the crime in Glasgow is 12 year olds stabbing each other and that's as bad as it gets

france is quite rich but no where near as rich as the USA but britains GDP PER CAPITA is 35053 but britain is in dept with 12.7% of its gdp per capita making britains actual gdp per capita 30636 which means that britain in reality is poorer than france but theres no point in glamourising ghettos at all
