Gean ( Bat Masterson ) Barry What a sharp dapper dresser that guy was,? A such a great actor and adversary in this series,? he & Falk worked great together RIP GUYS.?
We just enjoy the suspense of it all:seeing Colombo figure it out, seeing the evasiveness of the killer, and seeing the response of the killer when he/she has been caught.
Prescription: Murder is a great introduction to Columbo. This is a very good scene which establishes a pattern for the series: the killer who always manages to figure Columbo out, knows his methods...and still gets caught. I love this show!
Yes one of my favourite all time Columbo scenes. It's here where we all get to see how Columbo out wits even the most genius of murderers. It's this great scene that sets the tone for all the brilliant episodes that followed !
A wonderful choice William2jack3!!!!!! I have watched every single episode, including this pilot!!!!!!!!! And gre8! Just gre8. Keep them coming, pleeeeeeease.
Peter Faulk's Columbo is one of the great detectives in fiction. Interesting method and fun quirks.
This pilot movie/special was a good start. And this scene is a good introduction to the character, as Gene Barry's Psychiatrist/killer assesses part of Columbo pretty acurately.
Good call, William2jack3, in uploading this one.Thank you.
@ProNorden Glad you like my scene choice. I really wanted people who haven't seen the first episode of Columbo to at least get an extract from it.
This is my favourite scene from the episode as it has a good start, good finish and the interesting idea about justifying a murder, so it just seemed an obvious choice to upload.
@william2jack3 ....Am I right that at some point either the Barry/psychiatrist character or some other character evaluate Columbo as having a strong 'righteous-vengeful-anger' tendency that he indulges with the sort of punishing cat-and-mouse inquisitorial technique ? ...The he's actually "not nice" in his view of his opponent/target criminal.
For instance, in this exchange over whiskey with the Barry character one can sense Columbo's view of the psychiatrist/ killer's invoking of 'relativism'.
@william2jack3 I still think the best scene is at the beginning when the doctor comes home and examinses the crime scene and then Columbo creeps up behind him. The scene is amplified when the doctor finds out his wife isn't dead. Very intersting how later Columbo uses the fact the doctor never called out for his wife when he arrives home. Something 90% of men would do.

The show is not a "Who done it?".
We already know who did it.

I suspected this was from a pilot, because Columbo's humour hasn't been developed very far.
