nice beginning tutorial,it would be interesting to see some tutorials from you,you can make 999 with catia, and it's the program of the future, but some features are very hard to follow like an assembling design of 5 part assemblies of the same type,if you can more of those,or make a progressive turn to complicated assembly designs!
Ty! and keep up the good work,by your accept I can find that you might be an design engineer isn't it?
Great video indeed... I would like to make similar tutorials for NX6, ProE and Matlab. Could you please tell me what software (or other means of hardware, if any) did you use to record your voice along with the video of the screen? Thanks in advance and best regards :)
tks polarbear60 - I last used Catia (with Delmia) about 8 years ago. Now looking to get back into the job market, I find your tutorials very helpful and that a lot of what I did on Catia is being refreshed in my mind. PS my wife likes your accent...now where'd I have to live to speak like you? ;)
qiuck question. If I mirror a threaded hole onto a face parallel to it, will it mirror the thread direction? (i.e. I have two faces next to each other. I put a threaded hole into one face and mirror the hole onto the face next to it. does it mirror the thread direction say from right-hand thread to left-hand thread).....
Dont apologize for youre accent. its still understandable. thanks for posting this video. my boyfriend is going to be taking Catia Mechanical Design classes this winter.
i think solidworks is easier than catia, i've tried both and really i prefer solidworks, probably catia has more powerfull commands than solidworks, but in solidworks you can work faster. i love solidworks
I made a video that will show you how to constraint a hole and how to show and hide constraints. No narration or captions, I hope it helps. Need narration, let me know.
@Cthrilla Catia is from Dassault as well, and is frequently used in the Aerospace and Automotive industries. Which one is better depends on what you're doing and how familiar you are with each.
I saw some amazing stuff done with both. With CATIA the sky is the limit. CATIA is very heavily used in a ship building industry, at Chrysler in automotive, etc.
How long does it take someone to become proficient in catia? How much practice would you recommend? By proficient, I mean good with the software enough that you can get a job with it that will ask you to model a large number of parts quickly, or good enough to be able to pass one of the catia's certificates exams.
moment and load.. for an assembled product.. or it is not possible?
the shape is something that connects to each other about 10 parts or more.. and finally there is a clamp.. and i want to analyse all the connected parts not just one part
how do i connect parts to be analyze.. in product assembly.. i used manipulation, snap and constraint.. but when i want to analyse.. it seems that all the parts are not connect to each other.. thanks in advance
I have a problem which i wonder if you can help me with .
I am unable to save my catia part file . What is the specific format that i should save the document in and is there any additional software that i have to d/load to be able to save.
Catia parts have .catpart extension. What workbench are you in when trying to save. What's the destination. Sometimes you may not be able to save to system locations because those locations are protected. Try saving to a memory stick, if you sometimes want to save under c:\ make a folder called something meaningful to you. Sometimes when you save, you are saving only assemblies, but catpart files don't save, but that's usually in a corp environment. I hope this hints to help you to resolve issue
Thanks a lot! That's what I meant, the grid units.. I'm new to CATIA, in college they taught us only about 2D AutoCad,; the 3D part I had to learn by myself. Thanks again, I appreciate it!
i have a question: is it possible to switch (in sketching mode) from 10 (milimeters or whatever those are) to 1? I mean, if I want to create a 3 mm edge what's the setting I should change to be able to insert my own units instead of multiples of 10? Hope it isn't a very stupid question... I'm working with CATIA V5 R10
Don't be silly, it's not a stupid question at all. I believe the units you are talking about are the grid units. You can change them Tool->Options->Sketcher->Grid. You can also keep the grid settings at 10mm and place the sketch, (click on and hold sketcher icon, another one should pop up, looks like it has a grid as part of it.) you can click edges that will intersect, that will create a 0,0 point in sketcher. I hope this helps, and thank for getting me out of hybernation.
There's one thing I wonder, if I draw for example a triangle with lines how do I extrude it? I must be able to make it into one but I don't know how.
Is there a faster way than clicking on the commands? I'm used to AutoCAD where I can write the commands like "line". In Catia I must write "C:line" and that takes too long.
I've always wondered that too, about if there were keyboard commands for Catia, other than 'C:*****' because that is the one thing I loved about AutoCad was the greater use of the keyboard.
I took a beginner Catia class a year ago, had not used it since, and your tutorial was a great refresher (even learned some new things such as "point of interest"). However, if I had never taken the Catia class, I think I would have been largely lost (sketcher to part to sketcher), even in this "beginner" tutorial.
It depends on what you do with Catia v5. If you wish to create only 3D models, there's no difficult math in that. But there are times you need to think about an end user's requirements, you may need to set up parameters that relate to another, or rules (with statements), etc. In that case maybe you need to know some sense of math.
Can Catia be used to generate fanuc and heidenhain cnc progs as standard or do you have to instal additional modules to get these features? Excellent tutorials by the way....
i just installed it 2 days ago, looking good CAD program, but once i checked for shortcut button setup couldn't find it. maybe later i will try it again to find.
this middle click and right click to rotate is very bad, i don't know my finger are bad or my mouse is small. but i cann't do it.
if you know how to change these button for rotate can you just tell me where to change, i want it to be Shift+(Right Mouse click) to rotate.
i tried the toolbars options couldnt find it or didnt work.
I want to clarify what you are telling me here. You installed CATIA two days ago. Correct? "once i checked for shortcut button setup couldn't find it. maybe later i will try it again to find." - please clarify it. Thanks. Yes there are other ways to pan, rotate and zoom in and out in catia. I will make a tutorial on that in a few weeks. Sincerely yours,
I'm agree with you, the catia's button configuration it's very bad. Do a rotation or a zoom with mouse it's difficult for me, the fingers position it's very unconfortable. I think that's the problem of this program, I prefeer Solid Works, Solid Edge or AutoCAD in this aspect.
I had this problem to, then looked up a solution. If you hold down the CTRL key, and then the middle mouse button at the same time you get a simple zoom in/out by moving your mouse back and forth. Way simpler!
cool vid...thanks for showing that to me..i'm tring to start taking CAD classes at school and this was a good instructional vid...and Middle mouse button is called the (scroll button)
I am a design engineer working full time in CATIA V5 with experience using FEA software. CATIA modules for FEA are not so useful except for easy implementation. CATIA V5 can solve fluid flow using Fluent. But I am pretty sure they are buggy and program will be more head ache than anything atleast for couple of years more. I am planning on providing free videos.(FEA or CAD).You may be able to see my videos soon.
CATIA won't analyze fluid flow. A CFD tool would do that.
CATIA does indeed have a built-in structural solver called Elfini, but I've already heard bad things about it (gives poor results when compared to NASTRAN).
Thanks a lot, it is very hard to find good info out there! All the best and pleas continue with more in-depth tutorials! (meshes and pressure simulation for one)
I will try to learn some meshes and pressure simulations. I understand meshes are used for FEA, how about pressure simulations, what's the application? Are we talking liquids, gases, solids or just pressure of parts against each other?
Well I have seen a catia video that demonstrates most abilities of Catia on the web. It showed some mechanical parts being anchored at key points and then bent and the resulting pressure displayed in a color graph. Liquids and gases would be cool, but i don't know if it can do it.
how can we remove those grids from the skecher ?
