I love this song, but I'm sill not sure what it's about. Is it about a Vietnam war soldier who relocates to Spain after the war because of the pain and trauma he suffered. Maybe it's also connected to the anti - war sentiment that was prevalent in the U.S. around that time? Honestly, this is one of my favorite E.J. songs, but like he says, it creates an enigma.

Thanks for posting this beautiful video clip. I always loved this song and to see this performance with the beautiful background gives me goosebumps. In one of the comments someone wrote that she named her son Daniel because of how the name made her feel. Well, the same happened to me. I had an incredible warm & special feeling after I heard this song and I always knew that if I were to have a son I would name him Daniel and so I did. I gave birth to my beautiful Danny boy last September!

I love this song but everytime i hear it i cry. My dad's older brother was named Daniel. On halloween when i was 8 my uncle danny passed on. This was the song on the radio that we heard before we got the call from the hospital. Uncanny.

When I was pregnant with my son to whom I gave birth in 1980, I named him Daniel because of how the name made me feel. Now Daniel is a Marine, EOD, deployed in the mid-east again. To anyone here who feels it necessary to define Elton simply by the fact that he is gay I would like to say this. As an OEF/OIF veteran I am having to deal with PTSD and some of the stigmas that come with it. But when you go to make fun of Elton be aware that thi song was very important to him because he understood the struggles of combat veterans especially i that time period and this was a call for society to help. The song sings about the innocence lost. I thank Elton for singing this song.

Even though I didn't know so much English at the time I heard it for first time the melody and his singing moved me deeply. Today I searched for it to show it to my Lebanese Bro in Spirit, whose name is Daniyyel. Songs like this one are a TREASURE.
