Free trade will only produce a common global wage, a common global income, a common global lifestyle. Are all of you supporters willing to give your wealth to Asia. The big question is; after they have your wealth will they transfer poverty to the West and wealth to the East.
Free trade in principle is a good thing. Properly defined it means free exchange of goods and services between people and nations without state interference. Treaties like NAFTA and FTAA are not about genuine free trade, but are dangerous programs to merge the nations of the Western hemisphere economically and politically into a regional super-state just like the European Union. The enemy is not America, but any Canadian politician who supports treaties like NAFTA, FTAA etc and internationalism.
I would agree. It is the responsibility of the Canadian, American, and Mexican people to hold their politicians accountable to true free trade values. No tariffs, no quotas, no embargo's. Real free trade instead of corporate welfare.
Karl Marx said that "the free trade system is destructive" and creates revolution. The goal of corporate capitalism is, thus, to destroy nations so they can be "privatized". The effective means is by free-trade.
Ii is the height of arrogance that governments presume to know what international transactions are harmful and which are beneficial. The best judge of whether or not a transaction is beneficial or harmful are the prospective buyers and sellers, those people, will only conduct the transaction if they believe it benefits them. In trade and almost everything else, local knowledge is superior to government knowledge when it comes to making decisions.
In the US, the govt used to laissez les bons temps..., but the Rockefellers in the economy showed that some regulation is necessary to prevent such evils as the extortion effect of monopoly and dangerous accumulations of pwr. More recently, a dereg'd Wall Street has taught a similar lesson. Do you suggest that if certain sellers in the US, Mex and others gang up to put Canadian sellers out of bus in an industry, Canada should just sit back and take it, without policing the extortion effect?
"You ask me what I think of the expediency of encouraging our States to become commercial. Were I to indulge my own theory, I wish them to practise neither commerce or navigation, but to stand with respect to
Europe precisely on the footing of China." -- Thomas Jefferson

By agreeing with free trade you place Canadian Workers in direct competition with .58/hr thirdworld labor. Do you know that?

Trash the Earth. God told us that it is for us to trash and use up. It is in the Bible. He will rapture us up anyway.
