  • the mystery of this group seems to be a mystery of bad intonation. Please compare the tonal center of the beginning (B) with the end (B flat). The constantly flattening intonation probably belongs to their guttural vocalisation. To me it sounds rather unhealthy, at least unprofessional.

  • @Khampanino

man, you should go and maybe f**k your self somewhere with a huge d***o!!!

you know shit about this music!!!

  • @arifat86

thank you for your nice words. You are right, I don't know much about this music (although I like it, like any kind of ancient music). I know a bit, however, about professional singing and intonation, and simply don't believe that it belongs to this music to end a semitone lower than you started. This is not by means of measuring the pitch. I feel uneasy at any place the intonation slips down, and there are too many of those places to honour the group as professionals.

  • @Khampanino The thing is, this type of singing isn't about the absolute western ear or pitch. What you are talking about with intonation holds no value for this. I appreciate what you say when you are talking about singing in a western style, but the style or genre of this group has nothing to do with it.

  • @incolor4001 Oh, I don't mind about different styles of singing. I just doubt that any style which encounteris constant flattening was a good way of singing (not talking about "vertical" intonation). Rather than pressing themselves down to a lower pitch, why don't they start a semitone lower (or even more)...

  • @Khampanino starting a semitone lower might indeed help. Contrary to what others have said, I don't think this is an issue about musical styles, rather, a problem of intonation. Singers go flat because it simply is not easy to provide enough breath support (among other things) all the time, and this can happen to long time professionals as well. I'm sure you already understand this, so the only point I want to make is: they are not pressing themselves down, they're going flat. Still beautiful.

  • Is there any CD of the Eva Quartet to purchase including this song? Please, I need it! :)

  • I know they are on "Sacred Treasures V", but I don't think this piece is on it.

  • @threerisingsuns

    Thx for your info. :)

  • Wow, this is awesome - so beautiful!

  • Beautiful. One of the most under-recognized ensembles in post-folkloric music.
