  • Dear guy,

Thank you so much for this. My son is in the 82nd airborne and he just found out he is getting deployed to Afghanistan in Oct. 2010. I cannot quit crying. Today, I long to be a man so maybe I would not be crying. I am glad he was home for 3 weeks.

    Thank you again.

  • Awesome, very well done! I am the mother of 2 boys serving our great nation. 1st son, USMC 1st Recon '03-'08, now Army. 2nd son, USMC 1/6 '08-Pres. currently in the 'stan'. The fear of 'that vehicle' in my driveway is an everyday feeling. This is a very moving song. Thank you.

  • @LittleBird6035 i wish them the best of luck :)

  • Just happened to get a call from my AFA grad son yesterday right after I posted. He said, of course he knows you.....you- manager t&f, he was a 'devine' thrower, used to sit at same dining table. Totally unsolicited: he had nothing but good things to say about you. So keep up the great effort and you'll be leading our fine men and women in the AF soon.

  • @devildoggi1 haha what a coincidence!! Kirk is awesome!! lol, yea we ate lunch together all last year.

  • Cadet Mills, it truly is a small world, I'm the mother of 2 sons. One graduated from the AFA '09 "Our Time"! The other, only 16 mouths younger, is a Marine, currently in the thick of things in the stan. Someone in our FB group linked this and I'm so moved by your talent and so blown away at the common connection here. Don't know if you're a C1C, etc; but I want thank you for your great service & sacrifice for our country and for what you're achieving now. Congrats & get those butter bars!

  • @devildoggi1 thank you very much! Haha...gotta love "Hub" lol. I'm almost a firstie, Class of 2011. Thanks again and I am glad that you enjoyed the song! :)

    Godbless.

    -Kileigh

  • You will have to remind me. I can't this semester because I am just too jam packed with flying and school.

  • Beautiful. This song really hits home for me and my church. Three of my pastors kids are in the services and one of them has already been to Afghanistan and is going back. Keep playing!

  • thanks

  • This is definately one of the best renditions of this song I have ever heard! I loved the fact that you made this song your own and you did a great job with it!!!:-)

  • thank you very much. it was fun to play :)

  • You did great on this song!!! I can kind of relate to this song. My Aunt Elizabeth is in the Nation Gard, all I can think about is what if she never returns? Instead of writing letters, she calls us. I love this song, it makes me cry. You are so amazing!!!! Doesn't it take a long time for you to figure it out by playing it by ear? Anyway, keep up the all of your good work!!!!!!

    anne

  • Nope, it usually takes me about 15 minutes to get a song figured out by ear. Sometimes a little longer, sometimes a little shorter

  • well nice voice you could really sing. I like the song it actually made me cry because right now my husband is in Afghanistan and yes its hard letters are so hard to wait for and especially phone calls cause you wanna hear their voice so much

  • yes i know how you feel. i'm glad you can find some kind of solace in the song though :) my mom felt this way waiting for my letters when I was deployed as well. i wish your husband safety. he'll be home before you know it :D

  • how did u learn to play it?

  • by ear. played the song a couple times on my comp and then learned it on piano

  • I'm a proud mother whose oldest son Evan is a 2nd Lt. training at Fort Knox at Armor Officer School. He's assigned to the 82nd Airborne, and he expects to be deployed to Afghanistan by September. Thank you for serving our great country. And thank you for your music.

  • Oh it's my pleasure :) You must be very proud!

  • This was the first song i came across that you had done and it was very touching to hear your story. my mom loves this song because she says it reminds her of all of her boys she writes to overseas (even though none of them are my brothers she calls them her boys and writes to them like a mom). i thought that your version of the song was very well done!

  • aww, that is so nice of your mom! i dont think people realize how much a heartfelt letter means to us when we're over there :) your mom has a good heart for doing that :)

  • Ya it's something her and i do together but she is the first woman to pray for anyone over there...she's an amazing woman i must say.

  • You did a really amazing job. I first heard this song when my ex fiance was deployed to Iraq.

Fast Forward a few years, and I came upon this video. Your personal experiences really bring life to the song, and tears to my eyes.

  • Huhhh?

  • lol. just piano without singin?

  • Mmmmhhhmmm(:

There aren't any other covers for the song with just piano that are this great. And I wanna learn how to playy:)

  • Wow this is such a good song. I love Mark Schultz. You did a good job :)

  • thanks! :)

  • I finally listened to this entire song for the first time. Let me tell you... I just burst into tears! Thought it was going to have a sad ending, but I'm glad it didn't! Your voice was just magnificent in this song! You should make more videos with you singing! I really love it!

  • yea, it has the potential to be a very sad song lol but thankfully it isnt. the second verse gets me every time :p. i'll see what i can do about singin more, but it's still not the most comfortable thing for me haha. thank you.

  • oh my god i want you on my ipod.

    seriously that was great.

  • that makes me happy :)

    thank you

  • You truly are an inspiration. I've been playing/learning some of the music you play here. My passion for music is just growing l0l and I'm loving every moment of it. Thanks =]

  • it's a great feeling isnt it? :) thank u

  • man we really gotta hang out and i feel bad cuz i'm like so crazy busy it's almost not fun anymore lol But it's fun stuff i'm doing but ya. I have not forgotten about you and I will let you know! Um ya so I decided to take voice lessons and I HATE singing in front of the instructor.. and she makes me sing in front of a mirror it's like torture

  • haha yea i would hate that lol.

no can do on church anymore though cause i quit. the new worship leader wasnt a leader at all and just liked the spotlight and put himself in from of everyone. it was pretty much "joe and the worshipettes". not how it should be. lookin for a new church now

  • well you did absolutely amazing at it and i love that voice of urs too by the way!

  • thank you so much Amber! :)

when we hangin' out again btw? :p

i'm still not too comfortable with singin lol, but i'm glad that u enjoy it. i still wont sing for ppl "live" haha

  • well now that's a good way to make me cry! :) Beautiful song Phil.

  • aww :) yea, about the first 3 takes i choked up at that second verse, so i had to redo it and try to keep my composure :p

  • i wanna be a commercial airplane pilot. gonna go to military school and from there be like.. a pilot or something~ get education~~ 4 years... and server for 5...

    live in canada....

  • u can still come here from canada. but yea if u want training to be free then go military...be a pilot for them...then go commercial. that's what i'm gonna do

  • i have no idea what you've just said lol

thinking of military school~~ btw i'm only like.. grade 10 lol so~ yeah.....

  • lol...ok to be an Air Force pilot you have to be an officer. to be an officer, you have to go to college and get your bachelors (4 years) degree in almost any major. if you go to a regular college, then it is wise to do Air Force ROTC at that college (so choose one that has it) and after you graduate you are an officer in the Air Force and apply for a pilot slot.

  • Or if you want to go to a military college like here (Air Force Academy) then you apply for a pilot slot your junior year of school (and usually get it if you're medically able) and when you graduate you head of to pilot training.

  • only 5??! i take a while~~ lol

    man you're awesome!

i wanna be a pilot!! info plz?? lol

  • yea. usually it only takes one or two takes. but i kept "losing my composure" at that second verse. af pilot? get a bachelors degree and do AF ROTC in college or come here to do both

  • DUDEUUDUEUDUEUDE NO WAY!$!@$!@$!@$ I LOVE LIKE.. ABSOLUTLY LOVE THIS SONG!$!@$!@$@$ FRKCIRKCCLIRIFCKRIFKCRIKF

the first time i've heard this song i actually cried. This is a beautiful song

    thank you!

  • yea that second verse is a getter. let's just say it took me about 5 takes to do this song cause of that verse lol.

  • Beautiful = )

  • thank you very much

  • good job, keep it up!

  • thanks :)

  • Request - Shoulda Woulda Coulda - Brian McKnight. I never seen anyone on youtube play this on the piano. I think this song would sound great with the accompaniment from your Motifsx and maybe you can sing it =]

  • i'll see lol. that songs seems pretty tough

  • Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is a very good song phil u always have done and still do a great job
