Circus Maximus started out as a Dream Theater tribute band... So it's no surprise they have a strong DT influence. They did manage to forge their own sound though and i have to say they have a knack at making incredibly epic songs.
DT wears their influences on their sleeves as well, but no one here is criticizing them for that. Yeah, Biosfear sounds like DOE. But how many other songs sound like that? I'm glad DT has influenced a band enough to come up with this, its awesome
get out of here with this never ending DT comparison. Just because it is complex and some progressions meet DT sound, does not mean jack shit. Why the fuck do you guys always compare everyone to DT? Ain't you getting tired of it? Anywhere I go to see prog band, it's like "dude, it's lot like DT..." just goddamn listen and don't be so stiff. I can actually listen to every note here and have some pleasure doing so. BTW, you don't hear DT but elements of LTE progressions - that's quite different
I guess none of you are musician because this doesn't sound anything like Dance of Eternity.........sheesh! CM is pretty awesome group of musicians....they just may surpass DT!
Great piece! Reminds me of DT's "Dance Of Eternity" too much though. And of DT as a whole. I love listening to this band and they have improved consistently with the "Isolate" album. I would like to see them on stage some day, they are worth listening to.
it'd be great to see them on progressive nation 2009... but perhaps instead they are inviting some metalcore progressive metal wannabees like protest the hero or "under the buried is me".
DT and CM are both good but stop pretending like this isn't heavily inspired by DT. It's like when people used to argue with me that there was no way DT was influenced by The Dregs. Then lo and behold Petrucci talked about Steve Morse as one of his influences in an interview soon after their Awake album came out.
I hear DT influence but thats because it's fucking progressive metal, not because they're copying DT. They are in the same category (I dont know what other word to say) of progressive metal as DT. Lots off jazz fusion and dual piano and keyboards is the category im referring to.
Couldn't agree more with Dawnbringer999. They are progmetal, that's why they sometimes can sound like dream theater! It's ALOT of prog, prog and prog, but it doesnt mean that they have copied DT. It's PROG METAL! They're in the same genre, so it's not weird, not weird at all.
A thing is sure, I can easily hear influence of DT most along all song long... Drumming...guitare riffs... thats not bad because DT should do more instrumental prog rock(I mean without this seagull crying all the tim Labrie, sry for ts fans)
An epic instrumental metal song that is gonna be hard to top.

this song's intro uses the riffs from DT's Just Let Me Breathe song (around 3:38). Very nice tribute imo. :)

The intro of this song seems like a tribute to Dream Theater's Just Let Me Breathe (listen to the riff that starts at 3:38 or so). :)

Great instrumental. Prog Metal is seriously a beautiful genre, especially when it's played so well.

This song is so much harder to follow even after hearing it over 200+ times than Dance of Eternity in my opinion.

Dream Theater is kick ass but they have many better songs than this. The Test That Stumped Them All for instance.

Yeah, but they got it from a video game called Circus Maximus, not Dream Theater. I'm, tired of hearing that.

I agree, just because they sound Identical to DT certainly doesn't make them copy cats.. They're simply progressive metal.
